Allen discusses his UGA choice

Dwayne Allen made it clear to his coach, Wayne Inman, that he was going to Clemson on Saturday night when the two talked.

Allen, a four-star tight end, continued that line of thinking the next day. “Clemson. Clemson. Clemson. That is where I am going,” he told himself.

All morning Monday, “it was Clemson,” Allen said.

Then something changed at 1 p.m.

“I didn’t even know until I picked up the Clemson hat, threw it over to my coach and it was Georgia,” said the Terry Sanford (Fayetteville, N.C.) product. “Georgia is where I wanted to be.”

So Georgia is where he is going. Finally. Allen, 6-4, 245 pounds, has been at the center of really the only drama involving the 2008 class. He was one of Georgia’s first commitments in December of 2006. But then he reopened his recruitment process. The door was open even wider when Georgia tight end coach Dave Johnson left for West Virginia.

Then he took an official visit to Clemson and things started to change.

“I am glad I took that visit,” he said. “There were a lot of wonderful people at Clemson.”

People Georgia had to go up against. And people who had ironically already convinced Georgia coach Mark Richt’s son, Jon, to sign with Clemson.

“(Georgia) didn’t push too hard,” Allen said. “They didn’t say anything negative (about Clemson). When it came down to it, it was just Georgia.”

I am glad he decided to stay. If anyone saw this kid at the Under Armour Game Skills Challenge, you know that he is a good mix of size and speed. He also has great hands. He ended up winning the wide receiver event. The Dogs are looking good for the next couple of seasons. Lets see if they can put it all together.

I’m surprised he stuck with his commitment considering how loaded we are at TE (Chandler, Figgins, Ward and possibly White). Unless he’s a stud it’s looking like a redshirt.

sewageDAWG - I believe James Butler played on Tech teams that crushed the life out of the UGAY Mutts. Strange how the AJ Urinal fails to mention that fact that the home town University had three players win a super bowl ring, and a UGAY defector as well. Then again, UGAY has an easy major called journalism, and most the the Urinal’s writters were given their degree’s in that Gay Greek City, Athens.

Profit,

UGA is the ONLY school to produce three Super Bowl MVP’s.

BTW: If Tech has championship players then why do they suck so bad? I mean, these guys aren’t losers obviously, but they were when they were at Tech. I guess that could be a selling tool for recruits: “Hey, ya know you won’t always have to be a loser. Just suffer for the next 3 to 5 years and then you might win at the next level.” The lack of pressure to win 8 games might be attractive to some guys. Just show up, lose and get ready for the next level where people give a damn about winning. I guess its like sharpening your basketball skills while playing for the Washington Generals.

BTW2: Thanks for pointing out that our 4th string TB won a SB ring. How are your 4th string RB’s doing? Besides not playing in the league that is.

Yea Tommy Bow Wow Den You play in a much tougher conference than we do… Your are a moron. You and profit must be brothers. When was the last time you won your Conference? Why are you living through South Carolina? Oh, that’s right because ClemPson sucks and has not beaten UGA the last several times they played them.

At least we have been to three BCS Bowl games. How many have you been to? We do not choose the opponent who we play in the BSC game. This is way too easy. Come back and post with the big boys when your scrawny, lame team does something. Just win one Conference title for Pete’s sake! Stop living through South Carolina. We lose one game out of the past 6 to South Carolina and you want to ride their coat tails. How many have you lost to South Carolina in the past 6?

If you can honestly look in the mirror and say that ClemPson has been a better team than UGA over the past 10 years then please pass to the rest of us what your drinking.

Oh this just in, Clempson has not come close to winning their conference since real teams were added to the ACC. But you go right ahead and go with that one. You losers would win about 3 to 4 games a year if you were in the SEC.

No one can enjoy reading about their own team without some clown coming on and baiting the rival team’s fans. The AJC does a shameful job of policing these blogs and frankly many folks will soon stop reading unless your into insulting each other. The AJC seems to allow these insults to fester, thus we all look like a bunch of Jerry Springer wanabees. We’ve been to 3 BCS bowls in the past 6 years and finished in the top 10 5 of the last 6 years and this retard is acting like Clemson looks down on us. Last time UGA played at CU, the final score was 30-0 Dawgs. Remember that, Tammy? Georgia leads the series 41-17 and has won the last 5 games between the two. Clemson is the definition of mediocre. They go 8-4 every year. They can’t win big games, they play in a soft conference and their goal every year is to make it to the peach bowl. Clemson is a joke. They are on more of a Tech level.

What we noticed is that even after Allen committed to GA, he showed up at practically every UNC home game wearing UNC jerseys, caps, etc. Talk is he really wanted to come to UNC, but his coach — who didn’t get recruited by the major NC state schools and ended up at East Carolina — pushed Allen hard and relentlessly to go to UGA, where his son played. Feeling up here was that his high-school was determined that Allen was going to UGA and wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Tommy Bow-wow, Profit and all of you other SEC Wanna-bes:

  • The ACC sucks. You can’t compare teams in tat watered-down dishwater conference with the teams in the SEC. So conference titles in the ACC are about as relevant in the football universe as MEAC titles.

  • Head-to-head, Georgia owns Clemson and Tech. Pick a decade in the last 50 years and that statement is still true. And that’s the real measure of program strength when comparing one school’s program to another.

  • Clemson has no tight ends playing in the NFL. Georgia has five who ALL START. Dwayne Allen is no fool. He’s going to a place known for development of his position. UNC, Clemson and the others under consideration don’t have that type of reputation.

  • We’d love to play Clemson every year. I don’t think you’d like that, though, Tommy. Statistically speaking, that’s yet another loss for you 70% of the time. And I’d put Georgia’s schedule up against Clemson’s any season.

  • Nice that you’re trying to live vicariously through the Gamechickens, but we dominate them even more than you do. And, BTW, if you think that Georgia’s going to lose to them next season, you’re insane. That’s the revenge game of all revenge games, and Spurrier’s team had better hope we take the foot off of the gas pedal or we might beat those morons by 50.

Every time I see a case like this I think recruiting needs to be radically reformed.I think a team should be allowed to send a recruit an offer twice. It should then be up to the student to contact the school. If the student doesn’t contact the school there should be no more contact allowed. As much as I admire Richt as a coach and person calling Allen at midnight..are you kidding me.He had to think the kid didn’t know his own mind and being the last person to call the night before his decision would give UGA an advantage. It just isn’t right in my book.

There once was a top-rated recruit who many schools wanted. Friends and family thought UGA was the right school for him, but he really liked Clemson. He really thought he was going to go to Clemson, but somehow he surprised himself by picking the Dawgs in the end. The name of that flip-flopper was HERSCHEL WALKER.

Hey, Dunwoody Heel, as you can tell from my handle, I’ve got no beef with UNC (went to school there and UGA—spent 6 years in Chapel Hill doing graduate and postgrad work). And I’ll admit that the ACC, as a whole, has a stronger academic record than the SEC (Georgia, Florida and Vanderbilt could compete with most ACC schools academically, and are stronger than FSU, NCSU, Maryland, Miami and Clemson in the classroom, but the UNC/U.Va./Duke/Wake bunch is pretty heady academic company, and most of the other SEC school could not run with that league). But I’m talking about football prowess here—not basketball, not SAT scores, not fencing or crew or womens’ soccer. I’m not comparing Georgia’s Forestry School to UNC’s, or Terry College to Kenan. Just football. And in football, compared to the SEC, the ACC is indeed a “watered-down dishwater conference.” I don’t think there are many people who would dispute that point.

Wow…to hear all this abuse about the ACC from a team that has won only 1 national title in 115 years….now that is the real joke.

Miami has won 5 titles, FSU has won 3 titles and all of these titles arrived to them after the 1980 squeaker UGA had over Notre Dame.

Look here is the real deal. GT has 4 National Titles compared to UGA’s 1, so the score remains GT 4, UGA 1. Well, I tell you what I will give you the 1942 title, but that still makes GT 4, UGA 2.

Ok, now when UGA finally wants to run with the Big Dogs, be more like OU and win 9 National Titles and a 47 game winning streak.

If the SEC is so powerful, how come Cal ripped UT in the opener last year, UGA gets their throat stepped on by UT, so that means Cal (Pac-10) is better than UGA? Correct? No, but according to UGA logic it would be correct.

UGA has a horrendous scheduled in 2008 and the likelihood of top-5 BCS losses in 2008 are slim and none. So UGA best plan to go 11-1 or 12-0 to have a shot at the title, or it will be another Music City Bowl for the Dogs.

See you back in Sep. 2008.

First, it’s not a big deal if you blog from work…if you own the company. Second point, Dawg fans should only reply to Florida,USC,OSU,and LSU posts. Getting in verbal fisticuffs with Clemson or Tech is like hiitting a girl.We are an elite program.Remember that. Third, with few exceptions, these young athletes want TV exposure to get to the next level and top programs like UGA provide that exposure. We won’t need to worry about local ACC recruiting for quite some time because of the lack of intrest by the media. Back to work for me….

tommy boy, here are some measuring sticks for you, from 2008.try to remember last year, not ten years ago when you guys won games that counted.common opponents,s.carolina,ga tech, auburn, uga’s record-2-1,clemson’s record,1-2.if you include virginia tech, played by uga in the 2007 peach bowl,uga,4-1,clemson,1-3.uga’s record against major conference ooc opponents,2-0.clemson’s record against major conference ooc opponents 1-0.ap final top 25 teams defeated, uga 3,clemson,0.clemson did defeat s.carolina, after they had defeated uga,but carolina had lost several key players and had lost four games in a row,uga defeated gatech and auburn, both of whom beat clemson.so you do not have a leg to stand on.clemson did not measure up to their pre-season hype.you have a lot of good athletes, but your coaching always comes up short.you had your chance when miami and fsu were down, but they are recruiting well now, fsu’s coaching situation is settled and miami’s coach has cleaned house.so you blew your best chance.why don’t you try to win your own weak conference, get an ooc schedule that isn’t laughable, and win a bcs bowl before you talk so much smack.frankly, clemson isn’t worth playing now.chip, these blogs need to be cleaned up,tommy bow wowden is just stupid, but profit does not belong here.talk of bashing people with baseball bats is uncalled for,he needs to be blocked!

Hey proshit-imean profit. Come fire me from my boat dealership for blogging.. Please -I feel the need to offshore fish today, bad. You peice of jealous crap. Would one jacket thats a real man, admit that Ga has had Techs # for a while. Admit that its your program with problems -mostly coaching because the talent is everywhere nowadays. Stop venting your frustrations with your program by trying to belittle what Richt has done. When has tech won ten games in a season -say five out of seven times and 9 in the years that they didnt win 10??? Chan was over his head -Like Ray Goff was. Reginal Ball just couldnt get it done but if you say all Tech players are smart maybe he just lost count on the way up to fo. Ill just take my subpar education and keep living it in Amelia Island And wish I got my Techjollies when I figure out a computer gliche instead of pulling in a nice sail or Wahoo. OH I wish I was a geek. I better hurry and get off the blog- I might have to fire myself for reading the woes and misfortunes of The Tech program which are always posted with envy on a Ga blog or subject. The pessicism that surrounds the program has trickled over to recruiting. Last years Tech class was phenomenal. They should do well. Youve got a new coach which may help. Dont look for the Georgia outing to get much easier. Sure youll win one every now and then and it might save your coaches job- But Ga is the least of your programs worries. Beat Wake Forest before you run that mouth or beat your wings off in jealousy.

However he never was on a team that beat UGA. I know this well because he was in the same high school class as my daughter. They were both Senior Athletes of the year.

I am glad the Giants won. James Butler is a good guy but he would never have started at GA.
