Hunter “feeling good” about Florida
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/21/08
Less than a month after de-committing to Notre Dame, Buford defensive lineman Omar Hunter may have found a new college football home in The Swamp.
Florida utilized plenty of star power on Hunter, rated the second-best defensive tackle in the Class of 2008 by Scout.com, during his visit to Gainesville over the weekend.
“It was awesome, it was great,” Hunter said Monday evening. “A bunch of the recruits went to coach [Urban] Meyer’s home and went to dinner. I had [Heisman trophy winner] Tim Tebow as one of my hosts.
“On Saturday, we went to the basketball game. I got to hang out with a lot of the recruits.
“Coach Meyer was simply awesome.”
So is Hunter thinking of canceling this weekend’s visit to Georgia and committing to Florida?
“I am feeling good about the Gators,” Hunter said.

Nothing like the Swamp to sway the best to Gainesville. The Gators are bringing in big time defenders to go with a big time offense. Hopefully, Julio Jones will want to join the party, but I think Bama is in his future.

Omar,
At least give Georgia a chance to match Urban Liar’s propaganda. Yeah, you might have rubbed elbows with this years Heisman winner, but you can be a team mate of next years winner (Knowshon Moreno). You might even get a sack on Tebow in Jax next year. Goooo Dawgs!

skydawg, I think you are wrong, Georgia is saving a spot for Hunter. however, I agree with you it was only a visit and Florida tried all kind of make ups to look pretty. they even used their Heisman winner QB to entertain Hunter the DL!scam!! I hope Hunter will take his time and visit Athens

For any kids who are being recruited. I went through this process a long time ago and it was fun, but very difficult for many reasons. As you can see here, there are copious amounts of idiots who follow college football. Most of them did not go to the school they “root” for, but they are idiots none the less. You are going to have to ignore that though…it does not go away. As far as picking a school goes…all these recruiting trips are awesome to some degree or another…depending on how much they want you. Keep in mind that none of it is real. You will not be a normal College student…which is good and bad. You will spend a lot of time on football. You will have to follow rules other students do not have to follow….and the season pretty much lasts year round…. they will have you doing something. All this fluff you are seeing on your visits is just that…fluff… these same coaches who are wooing you now are going to not be the same way once you are there. Keep that in mind. It is their job to get you to sign.
With that said, I suggest you choose a school based on the school as much or more than the football program. Coaches come and go… all the time. I played for a legend and then played for a fool …and saw a lot of Assistant coaches come and go as well. I did get an education/degree at a respected school and in turn have had a successful career in the real world. The fantasy world that was college football recruiting is just that… do not get yourself too caught up in it… I was 17 when I was going through it and I wish I had someone tell me then what I know now… and again…never mind the idiots…their rants are just the manifestation of frustrated athlete syndrome…they never played a down and it eats at them…. So they run their mouths on forums like this….good luck

Dawg Fan, You need to quit reading wrong info. Omar is a heck of a player, but he is only 5’11” at best and he weighs almost 300 lbs right now. He is not 6’2.. that is one reason uga wasn’t after him early. They like DTs taller than that such as Tyson. I wish Omar the best. I love my dawgs, but I hope he is happy where ever he ends up.

At least Herschel had the guts to admit he had multiple personality disorder in the hopes of helping some people. Now if we could just get some others to admit to psychological disorders as manifested by their comments on a Silly College Recruiting Board, well that would be a first big step.
I hope that all of you living vicariously through the collegiate choices of some adolescents have sufficient health insurance, life insurance, have your primary residence paid off(or at least doubling up on mortgage payments), have a sufficient umbrella liability plan, have a pre-paid college plan for your kids, if old enough, have a nice long term health plan started, are not leveraging a depreciable asset—Don’t finance your car, pay cash—, have LITTLE or no credit card debt, and are getting ready for the reality that great majority of Americans don’t keep the same job for 30 years anymore. NOW if all that is true, then go back to tracking the decisions of 17 and 18 year olds and ENJOY—ROTFLMAO!!!
You know, Marx had it wrong. Religion is not the opiate of the masses, collegiate football recruiting is the true mental diversion. By the way, the first time I see a graduate of Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia, Tufts, Emory, Cal Tech or tens of other great schools flying those silly banners off of antennae——It will be the first time!!! I guess they don’t work on Mercedes, BMW’s, Jaguars and others. Look great on GM cars.

2 recruiting class in 2006, #1 recruiting class in 2007, #1 recruiting class in 2008 (we’re only 20 points behind alabama for 2nd right now, add in hunter and william green). hunter will not visit uga this week and is trying to set up an announcement ceremony at his school for wednesday (my guess is florida….just a hunch). so with the talent we have brought in, i think it is pretty fair to think we’ll have a pretty good team. by the way, hunter will join 2 other 5-stars on the defensive line (dunlap and davis, both will be soph this year). also, remember this name, EMMANUAL MOODY. Pac-10 freshman of the year, and ranked 4 spots above your precious knowshon in 2006 rivals 100. he’ll be a redshirt soph this year. then some guy named tebow will be leading the offense. i think we’ll be alright.By Jim

Omar,
Urban Meyer has been accused of the truth with recruits. He has also been accused of pushing the boundaries of NCAA rules, according to an article in a Utah blog. You know, he keeps recruiting all these four and five star recruits…how can he play them all? He could promise the moon to a young guy, saying you’ll get to start as a freshman, then say the same thing to your replacement. NEVER go for glitz over integrity. NEVER trust someone who will use a kid like Tebow the way he has. Tebow is a great talent, but Meyer is taking chances with his career by running him so much. Tebow had to carry the team last year and did Meyer care about his long term health? NO…not in my opinion.
Don’t trust Meyer.

We won the Sugar bowl this year, and along with 7 other fine SEC institutions, we won a measure of conference pride against the only undefeated school in the nation, the Big-10, etc. Meanwhile y’all were getting your @ss handed to you by a lame duck coach whose team (when they were healthy mind you!!!) wasn’t good enough to beat App State!!! At least Arkansas had an excuse, they were overmatched and without a coach. Hmm, 3 of the last 18? We still own the overall series record and, in case ya haven’t noticed, we’re 2 and 2 over the last 4. During that time we have as many SEC titles as you and one more BCS game appearance.

First of all, Georgia hasn’t even offered Hunter. He had a “tentavive” visit scheduled for UGA this weekend but probably won’t make it. Georgia has a top 5 DT and 2 top 10 DE in this years class. As of now, they don’t have a scholarship. Avery will never make it to any college campus (because of the baseball draft) which would free up 1. They are going to save that one for next year, because they only have 19 available as of now.

Omar, whatever you dicide to do I hope you have a great college experience and a great pro career. But, remember this,if for any reason something unforseen happens, or the pros don’t work out, you’ll probably come back to Georgia. Big corporations, emplyoers are much more likely to want a former Dawg representing their companies.

Young man make sure you go to a school where you can get an education and not some pretend makeup classes & test for footballs players only. Example Georgia test: How many points are given for a 3 point shot in basketball, end of discussion. Florida will offer you a good education and Coach Meyer is exactly what he shows you, there’s not any smoke screens there, good luck.

tears.r.falling- Your name says it all buddy. I would be crying too if the Dawgs had finished 9-4 with an EMBARASSING loss to a second rate Big 10 team. But you keep on talking, sometimes it is better to let it all out. 42-30 buddy…. 42-30… Let those tears fall… As for Omar, he would be a great addition to Georgia’s defense. However, we have an extremely young defense, with the #1 DT in the class already committed. Omar is a young man with a lot of potential. May he find success wherever he may land.

Omar has been a silent commit to Florida since November. What is interesting is that he has not yet made his commitment public. Second thoughts? Or does he just like the drama? Despite it all, many of us would still love to see Omar honor his original commitment to ND. Not very likely, I admit. But, wouldn’t it be sweet for Urbie to get a taste of his own medicine.

lillys signing{if true, less miles is supposed to be at mich now},should assure allen’s signing with uga.this would mean that we don’t have a”ship”to offer omar,or sanders.if any other recruits flip-flop then a door will be open for one of these players,or lipscomb.i would prefer sanders, with harmon wanting a shot at dt and tyson coming in.i looked at the latest depth chart on rivals and noticed that strickland is now listed at center, behind perez.from what i have read he has the savy and quickness to play either center or guard.with ben jones already in athens and the way the young guys have come on i expect some real battles for slots on the o line.i think washington, gambel and curren are locks at lb,but with white and houston coming off red-shirt and hebron{possibly the fastest of the lot}coming in lb should be a hotspot too.i can really see only a handfull of players that can be assured of starting roles.logan will contend for backup qb with his speed, momass is the only sure starter at wr,and backup te will be a real war.also de and dt,jeff owens may be the only sure starter on the d line.there is so much talent everywhere that i think the depth chart will change many times before sept.

Hey GatorsNationalChamps, how old are you? You must be in the 15 to 17 year range if you think fla. has a history of winning national and SEC championships and producing Heisman winners. How long did it take your school to win it’s FIRST SEC title? I think it was about 80 years, wasn’t it? The gaytors we’re a very medicore program before Spurrier arrived. In fact, there were four programs with losing records all-time in conf. play at that time. Can you name them? I can!!! They are, as follows: Vandy, Miss State, Kentucky and your fla. gaytors!!! Not taking away anything you’ve done since 1990, but don’t ever put tradition and UF in the same sentence. Like a very well known writer who wrote for the USA Today for many years once said, ” Florida has the arrogance of Notre Dame and the tradition of Wake Forest.” GO DAWGS!!!

Did anyone see this kid in the all-star game? He’s not as quick as his stats claim, and he’s definately NOT 6’1, as Rivals so generously states (By the way, where the heck do these guys get their stats?!?!? I’ve never seen so many exaggerated 40-times and height measurements in my life!). UGA is set with Deangelo Tyson, who actually played in a competitive division (either 4 or 5A). It’s pretty easy to have an impressive highlight film when you’re dominating a bunch of 2A 160-pound lineman. Bottom line: This kid is short, overweight, and slow. I’m glad we didn’t offer this guy a scholarship, we have no need for dwarf-DT’s.

Georgia is really the only choice. We are going to be whipping Florida for years to come. If Omar wants to be a part of that then that’s great. Our tradition of DT’s makes Florida’s look like a Division 3 school. Starting all the way from Jonathan Sullivan to Kedrick Golston, to Big M. Stroud, Seymour, Robert Geathers, if he wants to play at the next level Georgia is CLEARLY the place to go.

It doesn’t matter where this kid goes. UGA is so loaded with talent right now, they’ll be dominating the SEC for years and beating UF on a regular basis. This coming season, UGA will easily win the national title and should blow out florida, that has no defense and only 2 good players on offense. Tebow will probably be “banged up” again and use that as an excuse when UGA’s great D shuts him down like last year. UGA—-no one will even come close next season. 14-0, easy win over USC for the national title in Miami. I’ve already got reservations, and will be partying hard in South Beach baby!!!

As an unbiased observer, all I can say is that most of you are exhibiting the maturity of a two year old child. Wish the young man well, no matter where he chooses to play, and be happy that he has the opportunity to continue to get a higher education, no matter where it is sought.
You may not agree with his decision not to attend your University, and that is understandable, but it is never okay to make personal attacks against a young man for his choice of where he wants to spend his college years.
My guess is that most of you who are making these criticisms never had the opportunity to get onto a playing field, much less attend classes at the University you are beating your chests about. Support your chosen school, but do so without demeaning those who decide not to play for them.
Try to show some class. I can assure you that the athletic staffs at the Universities you are supporting do when a player tells them that they have decided to play for another program.

Again, people stop with the trash talking of high school kids. It does not do anyone any good to call out a kid who is 17 or 18. All it does is make you look like a jerk and put whichever school you root for in a negative light. I’m tired of coming on here and seeing this garbage. Not all kids can come to UGA, whether UGA wants them or not. It doesn’t mean the kid is bad, a jerk or a punk. While I hope Omar at least visits UGA, I won’t hold it against him if he doesn’t. This is his choice and no one elses. Best of luck to him except when he plays UGA.
Go Dawgs!
