Bowden buzzes Thomasville
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/17/08
Thomasville defensive lineman Brandon Thompson, one of the remaining uncommitted jewels in the Class of 2008, received an in-school and in-home visit on Thursday from Clemson coach Tommy Bowden.
“When somebody like coach Bowden shows up, I think it intrigues some of our younger players that feel like maybe they have an opportunity to be in that position one day,” Thomasville coach Richie Marsh said. “Hopefully, it will have an effect on the players behind [Brandon].”
Thompson is expected to choose between Clemson, Florida State, LSU and Tennessee.
He is high on Clemson’s wish list.
“I think Clemson is in big time need of a defensive end,” Marsh said.

Once again…Tech not mentioned with any of these in-state recruits. Come on Giff, get out there and get some of these guys.

Tech recruiting coordinator Giff Smith said last summer that the Jackets’ 2008 recruiting class would feature a lighter-than-normal emphasis on in-state players because the pool of academically qualified candidates in Georgia is smaller than most years.

The Service Academies academics far exceeds UGA Tech…

Isn’t it funny that the only years Giff and Tech seem to have good years in state are the same years the Dawgs have a small class. But we are supposed to believe that this year is a down year in “academically qualified candidates in Georgia?” C’mon Nerds, get a better excuse than that.

No new recruits for GT for one reason, Tech is a pathetic joke of a team. Recruits want a chance to play for conference championships and national championships, niehter of which is coming anywhere near Techwood Drive.

C’mon play nice. Tech has had a lot of success in the past and I’m sure they’ll get it turned around, but not at the rate they’re going recruiting-wise. Don’t really know what the problem is other than the fact that Johnson has made it public that he will run the triple option at Tech. I can’t help but believe that he is shooting the program in the foot. That system works at lesser levels, but they will be lucky to play .500 ball even in the ACC because there is too much speed out there at this level. Although I’m a dawg, I kinda feel for you guys.

gt played for a conference title in ‘06, uga played for one in i think ‘05, gt last won a natl championship in ‘90, uga ‘80 so we played for a conference title since you have and won a natl title since you have. so that argument goes right out the window, granted you did play in a bcs bowl game this year blah blah blah ok!

There was a nice article about GA Tech on ESPN’s site today: Johnson expects offensive system to work for Yellow Jackets . It deals with Paul Johnson’s new offense and his thoughts on this year’s recruiting.

I am not up on the recruiting rules as it relates to number per year. If you don’t fill all of your available scholarships in a given year, can you offer more in a following year? Or are they use or lose?
I imagine that we might be short this year due to transition. It may be due to the concern of the triple option, but in the long run I am not concerned with CPJ. I still think he will prove to be a good hire. Just like winning will draw a fan base, winning will also draw recruits. He is still a somewhat unproven commodity in the eyes of some. The uga bias rags that continue to beat away at the “Triple Option” don’t help. CPJ will definitely establish the run first, but I have no doubt that he will pass when he has the personnel to do so.
THWG!

One thing missing from Roswell recruits item: is Curtis Hazelton still going to Duke after the coaching change? Also, please inform Michael Alpert or some anonymous copy desk editor that the player mentioned in a Roswell recruiting item in Thursday’s Northside Extra is Lavelle Larry not Larry LaVelle. Last year’s state co-championship team did not have a single scholarship signee in its senior class. This year, the Hornets might have 8 D-1 signees. And they lost in the quarterfinals. Go figure.

CPJ is not worried about how many recruits he gets this year. Yes Thompson would’ve been nice to get, but we also have 2 beast DT’s coming in, and plenty of TO speed on offense. And the academic excuse for this year is valid. Lets see how many instates we snag next year leghumpers!!!!

Glenn - with all due respect, Tech games are like a funeral wake. You can’t fill up your 42,000 seat stadium and the atmosphere sux. If a 5 star recruit experiences a game “on the flats” and “between the hedges”, where do you think he wants to go? Until that changes you’re SOL.

The SEC must have enough big time recievers any time UGA or GT can look pass a 6’3 wr/ss that runs 4.58, and is regionally ranked #2 in the high jump. Who also caught 45 passes for close to 800 yards on a losing team and is felony free with grades. As in South Atlanta’s Bernard Kelly the SEC in fine.

I bleed red and black… always have, always will… but I don’t see how anybody can be very critical of GT’s recruiting this year. Change, especially unexpected and so philosophically drastic in GT’s case this year, is never good for recruiting. But I think we’ll all see them do better on the recruiting trail in the years to come… after PaulJ gets settled in and fully establishes his plan… and he will have an effective plan. You can take that to the bank.

Dontavious Jackson deserves a shot at the 3rd tailback slot just as much as anybody…Like Lump, Brown, and Dr. Knowshon…If he enrolled early let him get in there and work at it, and show the staff what he’s got…Next years rotation could be Moreno, King and Jackson…or Moreno, King and Samuel…or Moreno, King and Carlton Thomas…
…OR UGA could adopt a “4-Horseman” arsenal backfield and use the 4th back…Regardless, UGA’s backfield is as SECURE as ANY in the COUNTRY! (I wouldn’t trade our CROP for NOBODY). We’ll be giving SEC and (and WEAKER conferences) fits for the next 5 years guaranteed…Peace & Happy Saturday Fun, Dr. SobeDawg

I am a UGA fan,, but I like to see Tech play good. FYI,, everyone knows that J.Dwyer will do well in Tech’s new offense,,,,BUT DO NOT SLEEP ON RODDY JONES who grew up playing @ Tucker Football League(Fitzgerald Park) and @ Chamblee High in Dekalb,,, He’s a beast !!! I am glad that coach Johnson is going to stick to his guns with his offense !!!!

I’m telling you guys I might eat crow but I truly think Tech’s offense will be awesome next year. Dwyer, Roddy Jones, Embrey Peeples, and Evans running the ball and Josh Nesbit running the show. I really think we’ll be a very productive offense. One that will catch the best defenses flat footed. Another thing other teams better worry about is the passing game Coach Johnson will implement. Tech fans need to quit worrying about our offense and everybody else better start worrying. If I were a recruit I would come to Tech if they were on my list over everyone else. Coach Johnson is a winner and he will make a winner out of you. Come to Tech and help make us a winner. G-O-O-O-O-O Tech.

If I were a recruit I would rather play for an 8-4 GT than ride the pine for a 10-2 UGA team any day. It’s a no-brainer.
