Harmon feeling good about UGA
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/15/08
After spending the past several months committed to Clemson, Jefferson County offensive lineman A.J. Harmon is confident he made the correct decision nearly two weeks ago to switch his commitment to Georgia during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.
“I feel really good about it,” Harmon said Tuesday evening. “I’m excited to be going up there to play for coach [Mark] Richt and join [other recruits] like DeAngelo Tyson, Sanders Commings and all of the top players.”
Harmon said there has been little backlash from Clemson coaches over his decision to sign with Georgia in February.
“They understand the whole recruiting process thing,” Harmon said. “They told me if I ever change my mind to call over there and let them know.”
Harmon’s claims the fact Georgia has a chance to enter the upcoming season ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation had little influence on his decision.
“Not really,” he said. “My parents felt comfortable with me going to Georgia. My mom and dad said they want me to be a Georgia Bulldog.
“I’m just happy, the community is happy and my school is happy for me.”
Georgia coaches have told Harmon the amount of playing time he sees this fall will primarily hinge on his conditioning.
“They say if I’m in shape and how I progress, that’s the main thing,” he said of potential playing time. “My freshman year I’m looking forward to learning and feeling real comfortable about the program.”

Choosing a college is a difficult decision for anyone to make, espescially under the spotlight. Frankly, despite what all these die-hards say, you really can’t go wrong with either school, which is what makes it so hard to choose one. Athens is a great town with a great tradition and a strong foundation of good people running the football team - I hope you do well there. Go Dawgs.

The dawgs are signing so many superstar recruits, other teams won’t even be able to compete—-I see the dawgs winning at least 2 national titles in the next 4 years, maybe 3. Richt’s a genius, easily the best coach in the SEC. Hopefully, he doesn’t go to the NFL anytime soon. UF and UT better get ready for some bad beatdowns coming up with all this talent.

congratulations to your dad as well, who is getting a two level promotion at his job because of your decision. It is his first promotion ever, so that should make you feel good that you were able to get this for him by going to Uga.

Looks like Paul Johnson just got the fastest player from Texas to commit to GA Tech.
Marcus Wright, from San Antonio, who runs a 4.36-second 40, and 10.5-second 100, just switched from Tulsa. He’s a bit small in stature but blazing fast and should be a great fit for Tech’s new offense.

RedRulzOldGold, why don’t you grow up?
This is a recruiting blog. I am blogging about recruiting involving one of the major programs here in the State of Georgia, whether you care to acknowledge them or not.
I have not slammed any player, any team, or any other blogger. Why, then, do you see fit to insult me?

Please “Dawgstheman”, dont talk about 2 or 3 national titles..thats ridiculous..with Georgia’s schedule and competition in the conference just making it with no losses or one is a feat in itself..I would love to see it happen but lets be realistic..competing for it is all you can ask for..UF, LSU, TENN, AU, Bama, and there is still Spurrier to deal with..Everyone is getting better with the exception of LSU who is losing the most.. and “GLENN”..thats great for Tech..does it really matter? Tech has lost more that it has gained..It will be a couple years for Tech to change their game plan and even have a shot to beat VT,..and well I guess thats all there really is in the ACC..maybe Clemson

Corey, to you, all I will say is that Marcus played in this year’s Army All America Bowl, he rushed for 3,374 yards and 45 touchdowns this past season. Marcus comes from a great family and will be a welcome addition to the concept of the team approach that Coach Johnson is building at GA Tech.
I have not said anything negative about any other team, player, or blogger, and appreciate the zeal that fans have for their particular programs. However, this is not personal, it is a public forum and can be read by minors and by people who really are not interested in getting into debates with ignorant people.
I have simply tried to let some Tech fans know that a new player has committed to the program where the AJC had not acknowledged yet. My comments have not deserved any of the backlash or insults I have received. It is time for most of you to grow up.

Don’t worry about ‘dem Dawgs Glenn. Welcome to the blogs. Doesn’t matter how polite or respectful you are. If UGA had played LSU in the last 2 years, they’d know about Trindon Holliday, and would know how scary it is when he gets the ball. Marcus will be the same kind of player for Coach Johnson. I’m looking forward to watching him. Thanks for the post.

Sounds like AJ may be going where he was told rather than where he really wanted to go. Hope he is happy, because he should not really care where his community or high school want him to go. He is lucky though, he cannot go wrong at either school.

UGA football, as I have said before, all I was trying to do was post a recruiting update…nothing more, nothing less. Since this is a recruiting blog, I thought it was appropriate, especially in light of the fact that Tech has lost so many recruits as of late and the AJC has been quick to make mention.

Who do you think UGA will likely play in Miami for the title next year: USC, Texas or Oklahoma? Someone at my office told me Ohio State’s supposed to be good again, but they always choke—-I’d like to play them and blow them out like florida and lsu.

Even as a UGA fan I do express my cocern with the fact that Richt has not had this kind of talent since he’s been at Georgia. I only hope he makes all the right choices as he picks his starters for the team, He will definitely have some hard choices to make.

I do like GT when we are not playing them,Im just worried about their coach, He’s getting alot of heat and hasnt even got started yet. Thanks for showing the class that I know most UGA fans have, Big Dawg.
I expect there to be a down year or two at Tech as the new offense is put into place and Coach Johnson starts to earn his own reputation with the kids. I think most of us liked Chan as a person, but felt like the program had gone as far as it could go and there needed to be a change, like UGA did with Coach Donnan.
Most Tech fans hope that UGA wins every game except against Tech. That makes a victory, if it happens, so much sweeter. I would hope that GA fans would feel the same for GA Tech. It would enhance their strength of schedule in the all important posturing for final rankings.
At the end of the day, both Universities represent the State of Georgia, as do Georgia Southern, Valdosta State, Clark Atlanta, etc., and we should be proud and supportive of all of these programs and the student athletes who participate.

Glenn, your points re blogging and GT being a fellow Div-1 program are valid but don’t be so sensitive…there are a lot of idiots out there in football land so don’t be so reactive. I knew a lot of young men with the same temperament and we lost most of them in the locker room rather that on the field because of their over-sensitivity. Roll with it..go with the flow..”when ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise”…and hang in there!

amen glenn, since we have to play you guys every year anyway i would rather have you ranked.i have posted my concerns about tech’s recruiting on these blogs before.i thought cpj’s first steps should have been to stop the bleeding,ie the tech recruits switching to other programs.he seems to have done that,FINALLY!now he can concentrate on recruiting new talent.it will be difficult because he got such a late start.feb 6 is very close and other coaches have had all year to form relationships with the recruits, and just as important, with their parents.if you have any pull with tech you should let them know about the little running back at randolph clay hs,chris clay.i am not sure about his grades, and he is rather small and from a small school.but i think he is a sleeper.so far troy is the only div 1 school to offer him, though clemson has been sniffing around all year.good luck!

Glen - thanks for the info. To fellow Dawg fans. Where is this brash and chest thumping 1, 2, 3 national championships talk coming from??? Because we are probably signing a good recruiting class? Look back at archived recruiting classes and you will not recognize half of the names of our signees. Have you forgotten about this BCS bulls%#*t that cheated us 2 weeks ago? Why didn’t we at least play USC in the Rose?? Bowls play favorites too. Our school president campaigning to lessen importance of the bowl games will not help our cause. The way cards are stacked against us from polls and ESPN we should hit our knees in prayer if the planets aline and we do get a national championship.

Any news of late on our TE Coach. Two top recruits might leave if he does. Won’t crash our recruiting, but it will take a hit.
Some folks talking about next year and who UGA is playing in the NCG. Dudes, let’s not count or chickens. That schedule we have is a ball breaker next year. 4 tough games in a row on the road; LSU, UF(they have the week off)UK and Auburn. It’s going to be tough. BUT if they can pull it off there wil no question who is #1.
I still want to enjoy this past season. Let’s pray that no one does anything stupid during the off season that hurts eligibility. OK, bring on the Braves until August. Go DAWGS!

I think Harmon will stick with UGA now… just hope he is academically qualified! Haven’t heard anything on this. I think there is still one scholarship opening that can be “maneuvered” or Hunter wouldn’t be considering UGA…. in any case UGA will most likely get one more commit, especially if Allen backs out. I don’t know why Allen would leave; where else is the tightend better utilized? Certainly not West Virginia … Allen should know that UGA will pick up a top notch tightends coach just like they did with the o-line last year… the new o-line coach appears to be better that what UGA had before.

jambo, allen is probably thinking of getting playing time, and i don’t blame him.uga is pretty well loaded at te and there will be one heck of a battle to back up tripp.figgins played a lot at the second te spot as a true freshman.he is a great blocker and has good hands, but, imo,he is a step slow.ward should be recoverd from his injury problems, and was a 4 star recruit.also white will be coming off red shirt this year and if he gained weight and improved his blocking he may be the best of all.so if allen chooses uga he will probably be red shirted and then still have to fight like hell to start.i suspected that hunter was in richt’s sights when uga turned sanders down after recruiting him so hard.hunter, tyson, weston, atkins, and possibly harmon will all be competing for a couple of dt spots.man that is strong!the fight for howard’s de spot should be tough too.we have two”soft”committs that are still planning visits to other schools, richt has warned both that as long as they are doubtful of their plans to attend uga he will keep their”ships”open.richt said he would honor his word,as long as they honor theirs.it is a two way street.

This is the Recruiting ranking and how they finished the season over the last 6 years. It looks like a coaching problem at some schools more than a recruiting problem. Two schools have had a new coach come in a win a NC. Maybe its the coach??????
