Lipscomb odd man out at UGA?

Published on: 01/10/08

Auburn, Georgia and Michigan State are the front-runners for Tucker defensive back Neiko Lipscomb, a participant in last weekend’s Under Armour All-American game at Disney World.

Lipscomb is expected to take his first official visit on Jan. 18.

“He’s getting ready to take visits,” Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said Thursday evening. “He’ll probably announce [a commitment] after he takes the visits.”

The lack of available scholarships at Georgia could be an issue for Lipscomb, if he’s hoping to spend the next four years playing football at Sanford Stadium.

“I’ve tried to called [Georgia assistant] coach [Rodney] Garner to see if they are filled up,” Stephens said. “I haven’t been able to talk to him about it.”

And the recent departure of Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp could throw a wrench into Lipscomb’s plans to commit to the Tigers.

“I think he’s very interested in Auburn,” Stephens said. “But coach Muschamp left. I don’t know how that will affect him.”

At face value, Michigan State would appear to be the longshot.

But Lipscomb lived in Michigan until he turned six.

“He has family in Michigan,” Stephens said. “That’s the tie.”

Regardless of where he commits, Stephens believes Lipscomb will be a standout on the college platform.

“I think the thing about Neiko is his potential is unlimited,” he said. “I believe it’s a rarity these days that you have a 6-foot-2 cornerback in football.

“We’re seeing huge receivers who are 6-foot-4, 6-foot-5 and 6-foot-6. You just don’t see many 6-foot-2 cornerbacks like Neiko.

“He’s an athlete and a rangy kid who can cover a lot of ground. Those kids are hard to find.”

Come on coach Ritch. Let sign Limpscomb. He might be another Paul Oliver but with a better grade. Forget Zebrie we already have good Oline in this recruiting year. We can try to get Andre Harris next year.

Where is Giff Smith? None of the “blue-chip” recruits in our own state are even considering us! I understand losing recruits on offense in CPJ’s system, but we can’t even get big-time defensive players.

I am not ignorant. My fellow Tech fans critisize Georgia recruits for their academic “shortcomings.” We offer the same athletes that they do. Bottom Line..we just don’t get them. That is a major problem with our program. We have to get some of these guys in order to be competitive. We have classes and academic support for most of these athletes. We need to focus on the solution, which starts with recruiting.

Is it just me or would the rest of you agree we should tell Zebrie if he wants to be a part of a great program fine, but CMR and company are not coming up to Ohio on the chance he might commit to the dawgs !! He’s not even a 5 star !!

I think we need to let the coaches decide who they take and who gets left out. These kids need to see the value in committing early so they are not left to go somewhere they don’t really want to be.
It has been rumored that we are actually already full with “silent committments” being already in the foal.

Hey Lipscum, the reason Garner ‘hasn’t called you back’ is because they are simply streaming you along. See, they’re not going to offer you because you are not on their top board. You are we what we call in this business a ‘PLAN B’ player. Somebody de-commits (like to Clemson) and they may (MAY) offer you. Please don’t lose any sleep at night waiting on that phone call. Most likely, it aint happening. If I was you and wanted to play, I’d become a Spartan or Tiger.

if neiko wanted in he should have commied earlier. the silent commits were told to firm up or lose their offer. Zebrie S., Neiko L. and Ricky Barnum have waited to late. the dawgs have one spot left and Omar took it! good times in Athens!

Neiko should have committed to UGA already if he wanted to go there and the same for Sanders and Hunter - they all had offers and they were aware of the situation - the problem is they can’t make up their mind or in the case of a few they think UGA will get them in some way because they are so much better than every body else (usually in their on mind)…. and it is to bad because UGA would probably rather have them than some of the commits they have already but unlike some commits UGA has to honor a commitment given to them and accepted. So you future recruits need to keep that in mind - I doubt if any of these three will get a scholarship unless someone backs out of their commitment or does not qualify academically. So, like one recruitment from about three years ago who decided to late they may end up at Middle Tennessee!

You know that most of you have no clue as to what the hell you are talking about. No Clue. Sanders wants to play LG and Urban Liar has promised him that, however, uf is stringing (not streaming) him along to wait out some others. UGA has one more ship to give and Hunter is visiting Athens this weekend so we will see. NL might be caught in a numbers crunch unless he is a sign and place like Massie in virginia may end up being. If you guys would read a REAL recruiting website you would know all this.

kendall, my info did not come from Rivals or Scout. But, let’s just say it’s pretty strong! Omar has an offer. It will become public this weekend. Zebrie was told he needed to commit this weekend or he would likely lose his offer. He was not ready to commit.

Neiko I hope I can shed a little light on what is being said above. If UGA wanted you, you would not have to call them, they would call you and the offer would already be on the table. I know this is painful to hear, but move on and get a school that wants you. I am sure if you have the grades Ga Tech would love to have you and give you a chance to show the Dawgs what they passed up. DB”s at Tech go pro every year. They have no D Line and you get to make a bunch of tackles.

  • Hunter is no considering UGA. It would be outstanding if he were, but he’s not, so there is no reason to save a scholarship for him.

  • Sanders may committ to Florida. However, telling him no would be tough. He’s 1 of the best OT’s in the nation, and UGA is still looking to sign another OL. I think he is top priority.

  • Getting Lipscomb would also be great. However, there is an outside chance that UGA can snag TJ Bryant out of Florida - one of the top overall players in the nation who also plays DB. I would take him over Lipscomb - or anyone else for that matter…….

So things have changed and Hunter is considering the Dawgs, I thought he had NO Interest in us. As for Sanders he plays tackle and is forecasted as a tackle, news to me that he would prefer being a guard, if he comes to GA he will have an opportunity to compete as Chris Davis has moved to center with Perez backing him up. As for Lipscomb it would be nice to get him as well.

    Go Dawgs

Fact is top recruits are lining up at the door to come to UGA. These kids had better take notice early, if they want to wear the red and black and play for Coach Richt. There are only so many slots available. Some kids seem to like playing the recruiting game by stringing these programs out until the end. Looks like there may be one or two who waited a little late to commit. Potential recruits should begin their decision making process sooner and get a feel for where they would like go to school.

    Hey SugarHillDawg:

“Why do you rationally(operative word) think ANY blue chip player would go to Tech?”

For a superior education…Get it? There is life AFTER football. If Tech is good enough for THE HIGHEST NFL-DRAFTED PLAYER EVER FROM ANY GEORGIA SCHOOL, then it’s probably good enough for any other blue chip player who can cut the academic mustard at Tech. Problem is, nearly every UGA Freshman would flunk out of Tech before spring camp

It’s not whether Tech is good enough for the athlete…But whether the athlete could survive a year of calculus. Most UGA players couldn’t even spell calculus correctly…But they can spell “soulja”…Ahhhhh…That UGA pride in academics. LOL

Has anyone told President Adams yet that they hold classes at UGA? Or does he still think they only play football there?

Neiko has the grades, the character, and most importantly the SOUND FUNDEMENTALS to go anywhere !! He doesn’t have a need to rush any decisions. F Y I,, Georgia has contacted him and has expressed interest in Neiko long before now. On top of his talent and unlimited potential he is a HARD HITTING defender and a punishing tackler.

As for the NSWR game at the dome in the second half,,,,, Many of Tuckers players play on both sides of the ball, and fatigue played a huge factor in Tucker’s LACK OF PRESSURE on Ivory. As for Neiko ,, he plays both ways,,, A ton of running around on both sides of the ball will wear anyone out. Yes Neiko is that good !!! He’s a nonflashy hard-nosed BALLER ! P.S.—- Tucker’s D(2007) The BEST in the STATE !!! Neiko=3yr STARTER !!! PROPS to TFL(Fitzgerald Park)Check their history of success,, as well as all the NFL, D-1 alumnus

We don’t have Hunter…he’s signing with UF like Pridemore. It’s WHY Urban Meyer wanted Pridemore, to get Hunter. These players are masters of deception. He’s only wearing GA gear to play with everyone.

Sanders is going to UF as well. He wanted us to come to Ohio for the weekend and Coach’s response was “our class is full, we do not expect any more commitments”.

Fortson is great, he is also an Auburn Tiger along with his quarterback. Tijuan Green and Marques Ivory from NWR are as well. Don’t worry about King, he’s good enough, and Green is better.

Dwayne Allen is fine, don’t worry about him. He simply wants to milk his 5 visits for all they are worth. You only get to do this one time. He wants to have fun. He has already said GA has offered him all he was looking for in a college and he will sign with UGA.

Just for your info, recruitniks, Div-1A football programs get 85 total scholarships…if a player takes a baseball, basketball, or track scholarship and comes out and makes the football team, that scholarship counts toward the 85…it’s just the rules to keep schools from stacking the deck in football…and protects the other athletic programs as well.

I understand that all of UGA’s recruits might not be qualifiers. That should open up two or three more scholarships this year. You don’t turn down a 6’2” corner.

It takes two (or more) cornerbacks to play defense. You don’t pass on a 6’2” corner.

I go to school with Andre Harris, and I think he wants to go to Tennesse. I am not that sure, but I will ask him when I go back to school.

Georgia Tech fans think their student atheletes are so smart, and I cannot understand this by listening to Kenny Anderson speak.
