Florida’s Meyer to visit Sanders

Published on: 01/07/08

If Georgia plans to obtain a commitment from Northmont (Oh.) High offensive tackle Zebrie Sanders on Sunday, Bulldogs coach Mark Richt’s upcoming weekend travel plans should include a trip to Clayton, Oh.

Sanders, who has narrowed his college choices to Florida and Georgia, confirmed Monday night that Gators coach Urban Meyer and several members of his staff plan to travel to the Buckeye State this weekend to spend time with him.

The 6-foot-6 lineman indicated that he’d also like to see a contingent from the Bulldog nation show up at his front door.

“Coach Meyer is coming up,” Sanders said. “I talked to [Georgia offensive line] coach [Stacy] Searels on Friday. It would be nice if him and coach Richt came up.”

Sanders said he doesn’t have a particular setting in mind when he publicly discloses on Jan. 13 where he will play college football.

“It’s nothing special,” said Sanders, who said the Sunday announcement won’t originate from a church pulpit or be in the form of a press conference.

Sanders said Monday evening he’s still torn over whether he’ll spend the next four years in Athens or Gainesville.

“This is hard,” he said “It’s been very hard.”

Did Sanders, who showed brief interest in UCLA early in the recruiting process, take a second look at the Bruins following that program’s recent decision to hire Rick Neuheisel as head coach?

“Not really,” Sanders said. “It’s been Georgia and Florida the whole time. I really like those two.”

Happy to see our coaches able to hit the recruiting trail against Florida talking about some early rankings and that we finished strong while the Gators faltered. Hoping for a strong finish - Go Dawgs!

Hey, everyone, remember these are young people you are talking about, so keep the comments in line.

i would think the number 2 ranking would help some of these players decide.if toby or sanders opts for another school someone will step up and take their place.

UGA is dominating UF and the SEC in recruiting this year—-it’s a matter of time until uga starts beating uf like the old days. This year should be an easy win for UGA and it will only get better in the next few years with all these top recruits that UGA is getting and florida isn’t! Hang it uf fans—your brief fluke run was over.

Seriously, who gives a crap?? Why do we need to hear about other schools’ commitments?? En masse, even? And are you DAWG fans still in here crying about the kid choosing another school over Georgia?? You all are the whiniest of the entire SEC, I’m convinced.

Omar Hunter stay in state and play at UGA we need 1 more DT to keep that rotation going. Hunter&Tyson = championships help build that fence around this great state.

14 of 17 is a fluke - hahahahaha. Ya’ll crack me up. A year with 70% of the team as underclassmen and suddenly Florida sucks. This year will be a great year but Georgia will start out slow again and lose at least 2 probably more like 3 or 4.

GA’s year is 2008 - folk always say, but what about 2009? We have so many underclassmen with great skills, seems on the verge of a really solid set of years in the top 5 - or top 3 now.
