Sanders to decide on Jan. 13
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/06/08
Decision day for Northmont (Oh.) High offensive tackle Zebrie Sanders has been set for Sunday Jan. 13.
After briefly considering UCLA, Sanders confirmed that he will play college football for Georgia or Florida.
“I love coach [Mark] Richt,” Sanders told Scout.com. “That’s probably the main reason why I’m thinking about them. [Offensive line] coach [Stacy] Searels is great.
“All the players that are down there, Trinton Sturdivant, all of them down there, Fernando [Velasco], all of them are good. And I like the facilities and the chance to play early.”
Sanders said he’ll communicate with Richt and Florida coach Urban Meyer this week before making a commitment on Sunday.
“Coach Meyer is coming down and I’m talking to coach Richt,” Sanders said. “So, I’m getting it done.”
Sanders said a variety of factors will contribute to his decision.
“It’s just how I feel more comfortable with the players and the coaches,” he said. “Coach Richt is awesome. The players, like Tim Tebow, at Florida are awesome.
“It’s just going to be hard. I’ve just got to think about it the next couple of days and get it over with.”

Buford to South Bend Indiana=700 miles. Buford to Los Angeles California=2,218 miles.
Not sure how Southern Cal is closer since he wants to stay close to home. Maybe Notre Dame found out how good he was at math and geography and sent him packing.

Zebrie & Omar,
I hate to sound like Larry Munson but we need both of you guys in Athens because Georgia has the toughest schedule in the NCAA next year (and the next).
The good thing is this will put them on National TV 10 times and regionally 3 others. Your folks can see you play every week!
If you are up to a good challenge, Georgia plays:
Georgia Southern (7-4) who beat Appalachian State
Central Michigan (8-6) and went to a bowl game
at South Carolina (6-6) no bowl but did start season 6-1 and was ranked in the top 10 nationally at one time. And have an ex NFL coach.
at Arizona State Sun Devils (10-3) and went to a bowl game and was also ranked in top 10 nationally at one time. And have an ex NFL coach.
Alabama Crimson Tide (7-6) and went to a bowl game, and have a top 3 recruiting class. And have an ex NFL coach.
Tennessee (10-4) and a bowl game and will likely end the season raked 10th nationally. But hogs the food at his school I hear.
Vanderbilt (5-7) no bowl but did beat South Carolina at home to begin their slide.
at LSU (11-2) and is playing in the National Championship game
Florida (9-4) and went to a bowl game and have a returning Heisman Trophy winner.
at Kentucky (8-5) and went to a bowl game. And have an ex NFL coach.
at Auburn (9-4) and went to a bowl game.
Georgia Tech (7-6) if they thaw out from the Humiliation Bowl game in Boise. And will force us to spend the entire off week before the SEC Championship game learning how to defend the primative option.
SEC Championship but without a full week to forget how to defend the option. And will likely play against LSU (11-2) for a second time while Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Arizona State, Michigan, Penn Sate, West Virginia and about 100 other schools who don’t want to risk losing a spot in a BCS bowl by losing a conference championship game (much less the granddaddy of them all-SEC), just sit back and watch.
Come to Georgia if you enjoy a good challenge.

why bash the kid and call him names? I would love for him to be at UGA… but calling a 18 yr old kid is classless. Our team is trashy enough for the stunt we pulled rushing the field against the crocs… but to call this kid names because he likes florida over us is uncalled for.

I’m with DawgMan. All the taunting is fine when it is between anonymous “adults” talking about a game or team’s schedule. When you start having jerks (like its my opinion, matt or bow wow) taking shots at a 17 or 18 year old kid who may be the first or one of the few in his family to go to college, and you do so with hidden identities, you are a LOSER. Most of these kids have grown up in tough environments, went to schools which leave much to be desired, and are having to weigh decisions that are difficult for anyone, much less a high school student.
Grow up, and shut up. If you want to start throwing out insults, then man-up and toss your real name out there for us to see.
Jeff Hood: you guys at the AJC might want to reconsider having comments under recruiting, because some of these are over the line.

Good people stop your fretting,if Sanders wants to win big the best chance as we know is here in the great state of Georgia, he’ll eventually realize GOOD OLE FU is not the best place to play. Then you have to realize this fellow will be considering how a coconut can enroll in that academic environment and do well.

Anybody know the deal as to why Hunter didn’t even list UGA as one of his schools of interest? Seems odd not even have UGA on his list of 5-6 top schools.
Also, I mentioned a few weeks back Reggie Brown never list UGA as his school when being introduced on Sunday’s now. It is always his high school. What gives, we need Reggie in the fold?.

Florida can have the best of everyone, they still suck because the only two players meyer recognizes is tim queer and percy goodchicken.. thats about it.. so we will allow them to SUCK while Gerogia gets ready for a National Title in 2008!!

Dawggie fans are so ridiculous, I have to look at these blogs every day just to get my laughs. First, just because he has no interest in uga, you dawggie fans, even though you don’t know him, and have never seen him play, have decided that Omar Hunter is fat, slow, bad student, etc (this, by the way describes a lot of uga linement), and that”Richr don’t want him”. Very funny….fact is, he is not fat, he is not slow, he is a good student, and every major program in the US would love to have him…this includes uga, but he simply has zer interest in uga…how hard is that to understand? It is also funny that dawggie fans also now want to put down the Buford program because Omar didn’t choose uga…also, very funny. You are nuts if you thing any of those 5AAAAA programs you named wanted any part of Buford this year. Most college scouts rated Buford as The Best team in Georgia, period. They don’t choose who they get to play…the GHSA sets their region and their schedule.
The funniest thing of all are all of the statements about the uga “dynasty”…most teams have to actually win something before declaring themselves a dynasty…only thing uga won this year was 2nd place in SEC east…will their “dynasty” be winning 2nd or 3rd place in the SEC east for next 10 years? Oh wait, maybe they have begun a sugar bowl dynasty, and will beat up on a little team like Hawaii every year….whatever…you people are such a joke.

I don’t think we have room for Omar Hunter. We have already signed the #1 DT in the nation for what is already a stacked D-line. The fact is, there are several more kids I would like to see who also want to come to UGA, but there is simply not enough scholarships available to sign them all. There will be one more OT (Zebrie Sanders). We only have 21 scholarships available for 08/09. We must already be expecting some of these kids to go to Hargrave. I think we have a great class. I also belive Josh Jarobe would be going to UGA if we had a slot for him, but unfortunately we don’t. I think the coaches have made great decisions on which needs to fill vs which positions are more flashy. I think we have finally learned that football begins and ends with linemen. Go Dawgs!!!

AZ Dawg, Thank you for a rare rational recruiting post. You seem to be the only person here who has a clue about scholarship limits and assigning a specific number of scholarships to each position on the field. Georgia’s has done such a fine job of recruiting this year that almost every slot they had was filled months ago. They have a few key slots open for specific targeted players, but even without them, they are projected to have one of the top recruiting classes, for what that’s worth.
Now if only the Jackets can get something going in recruiting this year….. A coaching change usually means a tough year in recruiting.

Funny, I havent seen Matt respond since Numbers Dont Lie posted his comments. Lets see Matt. If Florida was to win 10 more games in a row, then they would just tie the all time series record. They had to win 15 out of the past 18 to even get close. Georgia has owned Florida except for their little run they HAD. For the 18 and younger Florida fans, your dream world is over. For the older Florida fans, you’ve been blessed. But you realize the way things were and are afraid that things are beginning to change back to the way they were. We have split the last four games, and Now that things are getting back to normal, I think Florida and their fans are a little worried. Especially after the way things have turned out this year. How was that beat down? Duaine Bee. Your not a Ga. Tech fan are you? With a name like bee it sounds like you could be a Tech fan. You dont mention who your a fan of. Wow. So you come to read an article about a kid who may be coming to your alma mater, and you get this? Calling the kid derogatory names, blaming his high school’s football schedule on him and the other players, the usual and hysterical Florida jorts comments, trailer jokes and the “Georgia owns Florida” line of reasoning residual of the 3rd win in 18 years. If Hunter were going to Georgia, he’d be the greatest thing since sliced bread and you’d just be bashing us, which would be fine. The Florida defense will be much better next year, so enjoy this year’s win. You earned it. But, don’t start thinking you’re world beaters just yet. You lost 2 games this year to teams we waxed by almost 60 points total. You got hot and you were a very good team. Congratulations. We’ll see you next year in that dump of a town, Jacksonville. Hopefully, we can return the favor…minus the classless celebration penalty.

Folks, I could not agree more with NCGATOR. If you have something to say, say it with class. Don’t express classless acts to a mere child. I assume you don’t have children yourself. If so, you might think twice about the comments.
NCGATOR, 15 of 18 might be true. That was the 90’s and part of the 20th century. What happened in the 80’s? Georgia owned Florida! As I look at it now, we are 2-2 the past 4.
The celebration - reminds me of those credit card commercials. The look on the Gator fans during the endzone dance….Priceless!

Well for all of you ripping Omar, you may have cost UGA a recruit. He may be thinking of the DAWGS, but after reading this crap. I would not hold it against him for telling UGA thanks but no thanks. Remember what you say, as recruits read this. Believe me, UGA does want Omar. If we have an extra ship to give, UGA will go hard after him. I hope we get him.

I would love Omar Hunter to be a Bulldogs. He is a great DT. My friends went to the Under Armour game and he told me Omar was crazy good. I love that sack he made. He is quick of the ball. Pairing him up with DeAngelo Tyson will be awesome. They will be the next Marcus Stroud and Richard Seymour. OMAR PLEASE JOIN THE DAWGS. I would love to see you on our field.
