Report: Hunter nixes Notre Dame

Published on: 01/04/08

Buford’s Omar Hunter has officially de-committed from Notre Dame, according to espn.com.

The AJC had reported in mid-December that Hunter appeared to be wavering on his decision. At the time, Buford coach Jess Simpson said that Hunter was still going to play for the Irish.

But after watching the Irish on television this fall, coupled with the distance from home, Hunter, a defensive tackle, changed his mind.

He told the website he is now interested in three schools: Southern Cal, Florida and Auburn.

The main page says its USC, Florida and Miami but the story has USC, Florida and Auburn. So is Miami or Auburn a finalist?

MiamiDawg - it’s Auburn. This kid will have a bright future ahead of him - but take it straight from an ND alum, if you don’t really want to be at that school - you’ll never make it there. Hunter at least made his intentions clear early enough for ND to go after other D-Tackles.

This kid is going to Florida, no question. Urban Meyer got to him.

By-de-commiting to Notre Dame, Omar Hunter isn’t making a 4-year mistake. He’s making a 40-year mistake!

Los Angeles is closer to his home than South Bend?

Does the ACT include geography?

Quick, someone tell Hunter that Southern Cal is 2222.3 miles from Buford and that Notre Dame is only 701.7 miles from Buford. His ‘distance’ excuse has to be hog wash. If he wants to be near home so his parents can see him play he should spare them the 7 or so hour car ride to Gainesville, if that’s where he wants to play, and go to Ga Tech or UGA instead. So he didn’t like what he saw of ND on the field this past season, well what does he think of Florida’s atrocious defensive play against Michigan who lost to Appalachian State. Florida gave up more points to Michigan than ND earlier this year. How ‘bout all them 500 plus yards Florida gave up, was he impressed with that, too? Was he impressed with the Florida D who lost 4 games this year? Had Michigan’s Hart not fumbled twice where he did agaisnt Florida, the score would have been more indicative of the whipping Urban’s boys got against a lame duck Michigan coach.

Good for Charlie Weis and his “you are either all in or you are out” approach. These recruits and their “silent verbals” and other games are trashing college recruiting. Don’t commit unless you are sure, end of story. Treat it like your word is your contract. Not like today’s favorite flavor that can change tomorrow. I see these kids and their baseball hats all laid out in front of them while the cameras roll, playing rock star. Makes me want to puke.

I would strongly suspect, an Escalade will soon be in Mr. Hunter’s Family driveway and he is headed to Florida.
