Slaughter still sold on Notre Dame; Thomas preps for Iron Bowl

Published on: 11/16/07 8:18 PM

Notre Dame-bound Jamoris Slaughter, a safety for Tucker, remains bullish on the Irish.

“I am still fully committed to Notre Dame,” said Slaughter, when asked if the worst season in Irish history, coupled with coach Charlie Weis being on the coaching hot seat, has him second-guessing his commitment.

“I remember coach Weis telling me before the season started that they are kind of young and they didn’t know how it would go. But I didn’t expect a season like this.”

Slaughter, who attended Notre Dame’s 38-0 loss to Southern Cal on Oct. 20, likely won’t visit the South Bend campus again before national signing day in February.

“I don’t think I’ll go back this year,” he said. “But I’ll go back for the spring game.”

Thomas focusing on six offers

Auburn and Stanford continue to lead in the recruiting battle for Walton’s Chase Thomas, while Georgia Tech, LSU, North Carolina and Tennessee maintain slim hopes of picking up a commitment from the 6-foot-5, 210-pound defensive end.

Thomas, who is contemplating attending Saturday’s North Carolina-Tech contest at Bobby Dodd Stadium or the Kentucky-Georgia game in Athens, is a lock to be at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Nov. 24 when Auburn hosts Alabama in the annual Iron Bowl.

Thomas wouldn’t rule out a commitment on the spot to the Tigers next weekend.

“We’ll see how it goes,” Thomas said. “If something happens, well you just never know.”

Thomas is considering official visits to North Carolina and Tennessee prior to signing day.

Patterson’s stock continues to soar

Henry County junior receiver Jamal Patterson was among the recruits on hand last weekend in Athens for Georgia’s victory over SEC rival Auburn.

“It was great,” Patterson said. “I love everything about Georgia.”

Patterson, who has scholarship offers from Purdue and Troy, plans to be at Sanford Stadium on Saturday when Georgia hosts Kentucky.

He’ll watch the Dogs in action again next weekend when they go on the road to Atlanta to play their in-state rival.

“Georgia Tech has invited me to the Georgia game [on Nov. 24],” said Patterson, who has a 4.56 GPA.

Patterson, accumulated 830 yards on 39 receptions and scored nine touchdowns during the regular season, is receiving mail from Alabama, Boston College, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, LSU, Notre Dame, N.C. State, Rutgers, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Georgia Tech recruiting Habersham Central cornerback

Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey got an up close view of Habersham Central cornerback Josh Anderson when he attended the Red Raiders’ game against Loganville on Oct. 26.

Anderson, who is showing interest in Furman, Penn, Princeton and Western Kentucky, is scheduled to attend Tech’s game against North Carolina on Saturday.

Well, I hope GT can steal Anderson from Furman, Western Kentucky, and some of these other powerhouses.

I do not give a rat’s rear who is recruiting him. If CG and Tenuta think he can cover…I want him. Heck…no one wanted Nick Ferguson and he walked on at GT..and now has been playing 11 years in the NFL as a corner mainly with the Broncos. Other GT walk-on’s in the NFL include Will Heller and Andrew Economos. Vernon Strickland was another walk-on at GT that ended up in the NFL for 4 seasons. The odds may be against it…but you never know. Plus…what kind of man knocks a 17-year old kid in public! good grief.

why would he not want to go to Notre Dame. I’m sure he looks forward to losing to Navy & Air Force. And next season can only get better… I think

The Anderson kid is one that blossomed during his Senior summer. His stock continues to rise as more big time D1 programs are learning about him. Tech isnt alone in their interest in him. I’ve scouted him 3 times this year and I think he’s one of the best DB’s out there technique wise. His one minus is his size. He plays bigger than his 5’10” 170 would indicate and he’s amoung the state leader in interceptions with 6 or 7. The fact that he has to cover the best receiver in the state in T.King doesnt hurt him either. I think he’s a good fit for tech if they decide to pull the trigger.

I know that Georgia has seen the Anderson kid and liked him too. Heard that they may be considering asking him to walk on. Dont know if this is true but I do know that Coach Eason was impressed with him when he came out and watched one of our games cause he spoke to some of our coaches about him.

CoachBCH and Habmaniac

Thank you for the positive feedback on what sounds like a fine young man. I wish him the best. Should GT offer…I hope he ends up a Jacket…he would be welcomed.

Well, we all want the Georgia kids to stay ‘in state’, but if N.D. is right for the kid - God Bless him.

Jamoris, good luck in South Bend. Lord knows they need you…

The fact that all of these top recruits are still heading to Notre Dame shows they know a heck of a lot more about football then most of you. They know ND is on the rebound and they want to be part of it. After all, this isn’t Alabama we are talking about.

ND is getting good commits becuase kids know the school offers a LIFE after football. Weis is going no where. Bad season but tons of youth and more great kids coming in, ND will be back with a bang. Kids also love to play against a great schedule. UGA’s directional program is getting old. Nd is bad, but what has UGA done of late? Although not this season, ND has gone to 2 straight BCS games…UGA…? Tech?

Jeff-

Still nothing from the AJC recruiting coverage concerning A.J. Harmon, who’s been saying all week he’s leaning towards UGA?

Lawyer: UGA will have a better record than ND for AT LEAST the next five years! UGA will send far more player ti the NFL in that same time period! C’mon lawyer, let’s be realistic! Your Irish went 0 for the Service Academies this season! Even some of the better ND teams in the recent past lacked the speed to seriously compete for the NC/BCS title. UGA was top-5 caliber in ‘02 and ‘03. One cannot deny the fact that UGA is finishing strong this season and might be in the top 5 when all is said and done! An impressive victory in a BCS bowl this season would easily make UGA a BCS title contender next season, I seriously doubt that ND will be anywhere close to being a BCS title contender next season!

Jamoris, it’s your decision. But I think you’re making a big mistake, especially if you want to play football after college. But, it’s your choice and I wish you luck; get that degree. Lawyer, you’re showing a complete lack of knowledge.
