Heard County’s Dontavius Jackson, rated the 12th-best running back in the nation by Scout.com, plans to commit to Clemson, Georgia or LSU on Wednesday.
“I just wanted to do it at the end of the month,” said Jackson, when asked why he chose Oct. 31 to make the announcement at his school in Franklin.
Jackson refused to tip his hand over whether his mind is already set on the school he will sign with in February.
“I’m just waiting on Wednesday,” he said.
When asked if the winning school has already been alerted, Jackson responded: “they’ll find out on Wednesday.”
In what may bode as bad news for the Georgia nation, Jackson attended games at Clemson and LSU this fall but didn’t make a scheduled visit to Athens.
“I haven’t visited Georgia yet,” he said. “I just didn’t go.”
In lieu of the customary routine of picking a hat, Jackson will use a Halloween theme instead.
“One of the coaches’ wives carves pumpkins,” he said. “I’ll be choosing a pumpkin.”
The logo or mascot of Jackson’s finalists will be carved into the three pumpkins.

Does anyone beside me think that this whole recruiting thing has gotten out of hand?
Here we have some 17-18 year old high school student playing silly games with the media and the recruiters.
If I am a coach, I would take this as a sign that this individual is very immature and not someone that I would want to depend on when the game (and my livelihood) is on the line.
Jeff Hood — find something worthwhile to write about.
Dontavius — grow up. You want to play ball with the big boys, act like you deserve to be there.

Lee, Calm down dude.
Whats the beef with having a little big of fun. Sports have evolved.
Lee Corso and Dickie V, two of the easiest recognizable voices are “nuts”. It’s what sports needs.
If you like old school boring ball and no fun, I think ESPN Classics shows some oldies for ya!!

He is going to commit to UGA. What I can’t stand is how Hood spins another idiot article by him. He didn’t give you the full comments from Dontavius Jackson. When asked about why he didn’t go to a GAME at uga, he said “I have been there soo many times that I didn’t need to go visit again.”. Him not visiting UGA is not a negative thing at all. He has been there a number of times. I mean come on Hood can you at least report news that’s days old RIGHT..

I’m with Lee…this has grown out of hand. If Dontavius picks UGA you’ll all go crazy until he screws up and then trash him like all the other blue chippers who don’t make it under Richt. If Dontavius chooses another University you’ll just rip him sooner.

Lee, I got your back. The sports writers are ones with nothing to do but sniff the jocks of 17 year old boys. Some grownups sit around their computers axiously awaiting which pumpkin a teenager will choose……and these men (I’m afraid will also be parents). Where have the real men gone?

So the 17 or 18 year-old 12th rated running back in the country really thinks that fans of his three finalists schools are sitting on the edge of their seats awaiting October 31st to see which pumpkin he chooses? Uh, NO! Let’s all say it together…EGOMANIAC! Please go to Clemson or LSU. Personally, I have no desire to see you step on any playing field in Athens via a full scholarship.

Who out there can say that? But rather, you sit behind your keyboard and try to rag on him for enjoying himself???

MTN DAWG-your an idiot…it’s not about the fans of the schools. This kid is probably a big man on high school campus…he is doing this for fun…he probably gets asked 150 times a day from his high school peers where he is going. It’s not like he rented a limo and went to the college football hall of fame….or announced 4 heisman trophy’s and 4 NC’s like Perilloux. He is doing a Halloween theme for him and his classmates probably to have a little fun. At least he is creative. But rest assured if you have ever seen this kid play…YOU DO WANT HIM ON UGA’s campus and competing for carries I promise you that. IT’s fans like you that think these kids are stright egomaniacs as you stated….tat need to shut your mouth and let these kids be kids and have fun while they are kids. Refrain from posting your nonsense and keep your stupidity to yourself.
Dontavious-Pick the PUMPKIN WITH BOG OL G ON IT…We would love to have you at Sanford Stadium running the football on Saturdays….!!!!

Actually, Jake Kay, I CAN say that. I was recruited and played for a major BCS University and was a 4 year letter man in football. I chose NOT to play for UGA even though I had a scholarship offer to do so. This happened even though I was born and raised in Georgia and I respected the coaches and team.
The reason I chose to play for another University was because of Georgia’s moronic fan base. You expect the world and when someone doesn’t live up to your unrealistic expectations, you make our lives a living nightmare.
And you wonder why I call you arrogant? YOU are pathetic. I don’t know why anyone would want to play in front of fair weather fans like you.

Right man… and I’m Chris Leak. That’s right - Chris Leak here on a Georgia recruiting blog… you see - that is about as believable as your claim to being a 4 year letterman at a BCS school that isn’t Georgia, yet you are spending time on UGA blog about Dontavius. Tell us where you played, what years and what position. otherwise, keep your fantasy to yourself.

Typical UGA blowhard.
Believe it or not, moron, but some of us choose to play for Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, and even GA Tech (yep, even poor old GA Tech beat UGA several years in a row for a while if you check the records)instead of the University of Georgia to avoid UGA’s fans. I’ll tell you what, I’ll be happy to share my dates of service along with a copy of my letters if you will share with me yours. Just let me know when and where, and I’ll be there. I’m sure a few of my fellow letter men will be happy to join me.
Finally, I would also point out, bj, excuse me, pj, that this isn’t a UGA blog but a RECRUTING BLOG. That is why most of us are sick and tired of you arrogant Georgia posters. You think you have an exclusive to the blogs and the players.

Someone needs to remove the pinecone from the rear orifice. Dude, good for you that (or possibly if) you played D-I football somewhere. But to not choose a school because you think the fan base can be a bit nutty -for the record I agree that the bandwagon, non-attending, non-graduated UGA fans are issues. Seems more like a cop out for not really being able to hack playing in a big-time D1 environment.
Further still, to intimate to someone that you and your big friends will gladly show up somewhere to prove you played football reeks more of a sexaul deviance toward gang banging men than anything else.
If you are going to tell everyone else to grow up because of this reason or that reason, maybe you should come back with more educated and intelligent responses when someone queries your statement about playing D1 football somewhere.
Maybe a more educated response would be, “I played x position, at X university, during these years, under coach so-and-so, and I played x amount of time during these years.”
Oh and I agree with you, this is just a blog about recruiting, not a UGA recruiting blog. And I’m guessing the agitation is about not having any news (today) for a recruit that might be going to the school you attended. And I use the word attended because do not want folks to think you actually graduated from a D1 University. I mean, what with your responses on the blog, who would get that idea.
By Sick of arrogant UGA fans

GradyGrad96, I’m not sure where you come off reading any sexual deviance into my comments by my offering to show up with the proof of the lettering in football at a BCS University with some others who have lettered and are sick and tired of all of the bs being spouted off by the arrogant UGA fans who think they have a monopoly on the blogs and student athletes. Perhaps you have been reading too many comic books.
Frankly, GradyGrad96, if anyone is a sexual deviant on this blog, it is you with your pine cone comment, you moron. What do you use them for, bait for squirrels?
If you would like to show up with pj, I will be happy to share with you all of my paperwork and letters which will detail the years that I lettered and for what team, the coaches, position, etc. If you aren’t interested, then keep your blowhole shut.
Frankly, I could care less where any of the recruits attend College. They are blessed to have an opportunity to get a free education and I hope they don’t waste it and take up a slot from someone who really wants to attend that University and cannot get in because of numbers.
Most of these kids will not play pros so I hope they go in with the idea of getting a good education and graduating so they can earn a decent living and being a productive citizen.

Shame on all of you who think this has gotten out of hand. Shame on you.
Whether you like it or not, recruiting is a MAJOR, MAJOR part of college football, and which school these kids decide to attend is a big deal to a lot of people. Look no further than recruiting to explain why so many teams are competitive now, and why so many more can’t ever seem to compete. Deciding where to go does put a bit of pressure on 17-18 year old teenagers, but all Dontavius is doing is having a little seasonal fun. Reporters care about all this because it’s vital to college football programs everywhere and the fan’s demand for the knowledge is rapidly growing. I think it’s great to see this kind of comprehensive recruiting coverage. The AJC has gotten recognition all over the country for their efforts.
Shame on you. We should be proud of these kids and how hard they’ve worked. For many of them, they’re excellent students as well. Congratulations to Dontavius and to whatever school he chooses, as long as it’s not UGA.
Shut up and grow up. Be a real sports fans people. Be happy for these kids.

let me see if I understand this… and by the way you WERE right, I did think I was on a uga blog at first but I stand corrected - i linked off the uga page… So, because I cast doubt on your legitimacy as a true D-I letterman, you are suggesting that I meet you somewhere, where you will have your former teammates with you? Jesus, with that attitude, you might as well have gone to Miami, where thug mentality is accepted. My point was that any person on any blog can say “I did this” and “I did that”, but you have nothing on the same blog to represent the truth on this issue.
I’ll start with my own personal example of how I wish you would have responded. I went to Cedar Shoals High School in Athens in the early 90’s. I played both football as a WR and basketball as a 2 guard. I am 6’3” 210, and while I consider myself to be a good athelete, I was not quite quick enough to perform on the D-I level. I chose to give up competitive sports to focus on other talents. I’m not embarassed about that one bit.
If you were indeed what you say you were, then great for you. Really. but like I said, when people don’t give a single specific detail to articulate a point that is at best not believeable, said person should simply explain themselves rather than get uppity and act like a dumb jock.

GrayDawg, thanks for posting a legitimate recruiting question and getting this blog off of a ego trip by a teenager wanting some press and also (hopefully) the fans demanding all of the best players rather than asking questions like you have, a gentleman. Maybe someone will be able to answer your question as I cannot since I really do not follow UGA recruiting.
Contrary to popular belief, many of us “dumb jocks,” who played Division 1 but chose not to play at UGA, actually are friends with players who did, and really aren’t so dumb. In fact, many of us have gone on to get post graduate degrees with fellow letter men from other Universities, including UGA. We actually get along fine even though we competed with each other on the field.
pj, it is great that you chose to give up sports to take up your other talents. I used my athletic abilities to pay for an education that I could not have afforded otherwise. I chose a University that I felt most comfortable in and one that I thought would provide me with an education I could use most effectively once I graduated. The comfort level I am referring to included the fan base I would be performing in front of and how they treated the players and the coaches. Sorry if that offends, but that was part of my equation in selecting my school, and why I chose not to attend Georgia.

I could care less if/where you played football. My concern is that you are a typing hypocrite. You are doing everything you say you hate about UGA fans.

GradyGrad96, refer back to my comments to GrayDawg, one of the few posters who acts like a gentleman on these posts. If someone acts a gentleman, I’ll respond in kind. If I am insulted as you did to me, expect to have it returned.
My comments were originally in support of those who said these kids were getting out of hand with their making the recruiting such a big deal, and the fans going along with it. I was then insulted by fans, such as yourself and have responded in kind. If you can’t stand the heat, don’t play with fire. Just remember, GradyGrad96, you were the one who made the comments about the pine cones and sexual deviancy, not me.
On the other hand, if you want to have an earnest debate about something relevant without the name calling, that is my preference. Just ask GrayDawg and others whom I have chatted with respectfully in the past.

Why is everyone going crazy over where these kids decide to play? No one can know how they will really turn out for another 4-5 years. Seems to me that many of them are basing their decisions on a coach rather than a University anyway, and with the turnovers in the coaching ranks (with apologies to FSU and Penn State), no coaching job is really certain any more.
Can’t we all just get along?

Ok, it looks like things toned back down… back to a recruiting question, with Moreno and King being freshmen, and Richard Samuel committed along with that other rb kid, why is getting yet another running back so important right now?
To the poster asking about Offensive Linemen, all I have heard so far is that Matt Patchan is still considering the dogs, but we have alot of ground to make up. other than that I’m not seeing many 4 or 5 star guys looking at uga at that position… thats what I know.. anyone else?

Sorry, have to call you out yet again. You were the one who started yammering and complaining about UGA fans. I just asked if you had something abrasive in the wrong orifice. You asked for PJ to meet you and some or you big friends so you could show him your papers. Sounds to me like you have some ineptitudes revolving around one-on-one conversation, hence the need to have your friends there to talk about papers. I’m not concerned with your dillusions of grandeur or personal issues with yourself. Nor have I yet to see any fire with which to play. Nor do I consider you a person with which I could have an intelligent conversation. For you to use the word gentlemen after all of your comments on the blog is like a democrat advocating a tax cut.
And you never did answer my question. Is Jackson selecting among schools other than the one you attended? If so, doesn’t that make all this “sour grapes?” What is your aversion to the way these kids handle things anyway? You have established your football playing history, to which you have yet to actually provide any evidence - something PJ did. I’m sure you submitted your paperwork quietly and politely. So, does that mean the whole world should do things as you do? Does it really effect your world when Jackson decides he wants to decide by turning a pumpkin? There are really bigger problems in the world. I think we can agree on that. Since everyone is getting tired of this point for counter-point (although I have yet to see any point you actually make aside from not liking UGA fans) moving forward I’ll leave it be.
PJ, look at how they are recruiting Samuel. He is being recruited as a LB. That is according to what I have read here and there. So, most likely he will not be playing RB at UGA. Also, the guy from Virginia who plays RB and LB will most likely play LB at UGA. But I wish D. Jackson the best no matter which school he picks.

two questions——1-why has the ajc said nothing about chris clay.this rb from randolph-clay has passed herschel in rushing yards, and is on course to finish second or third all time in the state.——————2-why doesn’t tech recruit in south ga.don’t use the academic requirements as an excuse.you can’t tell me that of all the good athletes down here there aren’t a couple that could be admitted to tech.i am a dog fan,and we get many good players from south ga,but uga can’t sign all of them.tech will see many of these guys on the opposite sideline,at fsu, clemson, and uga, among others.auburn also recruits well here.why not keep some of these boys in ga?i looked on the tech recruiting site on rivals,i found one boy from columbus a few years ago,and one from hawkinsville.none from tift or loundes county, none from valdosta or cairo.little randolph clay has sent guys to wake forest, thomas davis to uga, even a qb to the naval academy.thomas davis graduated from uga in four years, and if they can qualify at wake and navy they can get into tech!

Wow. After reading through some of these comments, Dontavius isn’t the only one who needs to grow up.
My little semi-rural hometown has had several of its athletes go on to play sports at the college level, some at the D1 level. The way we handle it is an announcement in the weekly newpaper, in the sports section, usually with a picture of the athlete sitting at a table “signing the letter” while the coach, parents, and siblings are standing in the background. That’s it.
To have a sports writer of a regional newspaper wringing his hands in tense anticipation of what a 18 year old high school student is going to do is sorta amusing I guess. If Jeff Hood was a teenage girl in the 60’s, he would probably be one of those girls at the airport, screaming/crying/fainting when the Beatles stepped off the plane.
Some of you so called football fans need to turn off the video game, climb out of your Momma’s basement, and walk out into the sunshine.
It’s a big world out there.

It seems that a lot of people have something to say about Dontavius Jackson. How many of you people with the negative comments actually know him? I guarantee that if you ever met him, you would swallow your words! He is far from an egomaniac!!! He is actually one of the most well mannered and humble kids I know. It seems like the ugly GREEN monster may be raring his head for some of you. Jealousy makes us say and do some strange things sometimes. Dontavius deserves everything that comes his way. He has worked hard all of his life, and not only on the playing field. He has good grades, has never been in trouble, and is a very respectable young man. That is alot more than I can say for a good bit of teenagers today. Let him have fun without persecuting him. After all he is still a kid, and from what I can tell, is more mature than alot of you.

Case and point is here in Tift County. UGA signed Israel Troupe who looks great in a uniform , muscles bulding out of his arms and legs, and runs like the wind. But mark my words he will never catch a ball over the middle - scarred sh*tless to get hit. We have a junior middle linebacker who has led our team in tackles a soph and this year but will never get a look because his is only about 6’ and slow but plays like Dolphin Zach Thomas. Richt can recruit but few reach any level of accomplishment.

I’m curious if the results of the UGA-Fla game tonight will have any impact on Jackson’s decision. Would love to have him in Athens.

Dontavious follow your heart and stick to your home state and be the next great running back at UGA. You will look great in red and black and will contribute early to a great incoming freshman class. Besides, with Coaches like Richt and Ball you will evolve into not only a great running back, but also a great person. Remember my prediction, within two years UGA will be National champs. Please avoid Clemson, You do not want to be at a school with purple and orange uniforms and whose head coaching job is in trouble. Best of luck DJ, and we would love to have you at UGA!!!!!

Well I would just like to say that I hope Dontavious will come to Georgia….I know that I would because I’m a fan, anyone can blog and pretend they are someone else here on the blogs…. I know pressure to go to schools can be hard. All of the major schools have good fans and bad ones…..no exception…..alcohol makes people crazy…that’s all I got to say… I hope that Dontavious will go with his heart wherever that may be….. Can’t wait to find out on Halloween….
