Dwayne Allen, a 6-foot-4, 242-pound tight end for Terry Sanford High in Fayetteville, N.C., has reaffirmed his plans to play college football at Georgia.
Allen, one of the Bulldog’s first commitments in the class of 2008, appeared to back off on Georgia during the summer.
But he made his future intentions very clear Tuesday night.
“I am committed to Georgia,” Allen said.
Georgia coach Mark Richt and his staff played an integral role in Allen’s decision to play for the Bulldogs.
“The stability of the coaching staff at Georgia is one of the most important things I look for,” he said. “The relationship between me and my position coach is important.
And I feel I have a great relationship with [Georgia tight ends] coach Dave Johnson.”
Allen admitted that he still plans to visit other schools this fall.
He attended South Carolina’s victory over Mississippi State on Saturday. Allen is scheduled to be at Death Valley in Clemson this weekend when the Tigers host Virginia Tech.
“It was my first time down to Columbia,” Allen said. “It was a good visit. I went with some friends and had a good time.
“I was personally introduced to [South Carolina coach] Steve Spurrier and some of the players.”
Heard County’s Jackson set to visit LSU
A faulty automobile prevented Heard County running back Dontavius Jackson from attending Georgia’s 45-17 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday in Athens.
“I didn’t have a chance to go,” Jackson said. “I had car trouble.”
Jackson, who suffered a broken wrist in Heard County’s season opener in early September, plans to be in Baton Rouge on Saturday when No. 1 LSU hosts Florida.
“I’m looking for a great atmosphere at LSU,” said Jackson, who is considering scholarship offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and LSU.
“It’s going to be a great contest. Florida doesn’t want to lose back-to-back games.”
Jackson, who is rated the 20th-best running back in the nation by Scout.com, says he feels he can fit into any program, even an LSU roster that is stockpiled with talent.
“But you go to any Division I school and you’ve got to be talented,” he said.
Former UGA commit Ward leaning toward South Carolina
Mt. Zion, Jonesboro running back Martin Ward is inching closer to a commitment to South Carolina.
“I’m leaning toward South Carolina,” Ward said Tuesday evening.
Ward, who briefly committed to Georgia earlier this year, said he’s also considering Clemson, Louisville and North Carolina.
But the Gamecocks are his current front-runner, thanks in part to Spurrier.
“It’s all about the coaching staff,” Ward said. “Coach Spurrier has a lot of energy, and he brings it to the field.
“He’s a real good guy. And the schemes he runs is the reason they’re winning. It’s very exciting.”

UGA just got another commitment from ATH Xavier Avery who plays for Cedar Grove with Josh Jarboe. Seems like things are picking back up for us on the commitment front. Also, Sanders Commings is supposed to decide this week so we might get another but he does have strong interest in USC(east) so that one will be a battle.

Does anyone know how high Sanders Comings and Xavier Avery are ranked as baseball prospects. And how high they’re projected to go in the draft?

Avery will likely go the Francoeur route…he is an almost sure-fire 1st rounder in baseball. He batted .650 with around 50 stolen bases last year. He also won the 100m at state with a 10.6. Make no mistake, he is clearly the best athlete in GA this year, but the odds of him ever making it to campus are slim.

Avery and Commings are both going to get drafted high in the MLB draft. That is great for them and not for us. We are wasting scholarships.

martin,
the reason USUCK is winning is because their defense has played really well. it has virtually nothing to do with the “genius” offensive scheme of Spurrilous.

Allen is remaining firm his commitment because he so enjoyed the Tickle Pile with Stafford. In that Tickle Pile was also the end coach Dave Johnson. Dave gave Allen special attention.

I hate to change the subject, but… Are we doing it again recruiting wise? We have three running backs committed and only two offensive linemen committed. Both of the offensive linemen are from ‘Bama and have been offered by the Tide. It wouldn’t surprise me if we lost one or both of them before signing day. Do we really need three running backs this year? Don’t we need more linemen this year? I don’t get it. I know that running backs are more fun, but the line on both sides is the foundation of a good football team. Any thoughts?

People coming on here that are happy about Ward and some others that like to bash UGA. Take a long hard look at the young Talent at UGA and the recruiting class coming in. Get real UGA is going to be phenominal over the next 3-4 years. So just keep talking.

You are right about Samuel staying at running back, he is a much better prospect there. And at 5’10 190 his size is better suited at RB. I’m a little worried about the Avery commitment, besides being a top notch baseball prospect UGA has got Samuel, Thomas and a chance to get DJax which all of them are a lot better. I hope this doesnt make DJax want to go somewhere else!

Dawghater You only have to push the “post” button once to tell us your bad and filthy “jokes”. I know this must be a hard concept for someone like yourself that refers to the 5th grade as “my senior year”.

I’ve been hearing for a while that they really might be thinking about Samuel as a LB. He is strong and fast with an athletic frame capable of putting on more weight without sacrificing speed. Accoridng to Rivals, he is 6’ 197. Its still small, but his speed could be game changing.

I agree… we don’t need another RB. We need three 4-5 star DL’s and 2-3 more OL’s. We could also use some LB’s.

We did not waste any scholarships on Avery or if he comes Sanders. We will give out more offers than we have scholarships knowing a couple won’t make it to Athens. And If they do they will have it covered with a couple who will go the Hope route the first year. Been done before.

Yeah “Cocky 38, it looks like you have a dynasty over there at USUC. I see that you now have 11 recruits for the coming year with an average star rating of 2.8. Yep, you’re in the bigs now :-)))).

Don’t want anyone described as a “former commitment” on my team. Any idea what commit means? Briefly committed to Georgia??? Briefly??? What’s up withe that?? People like that are a perfect match with Spurrier.
