Georgia Tech picked up commitments on Sunday from Brandon Leslie, a safety from Edison High in Fresno, Calif., and linebacker Malcolm Munroe of Coral Reef High in Miami.
Leslie and Munroe were among a group of recruits in attendance at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday during Tech’s victory over Clemson.
Slaughter still firm with Notre Dame
Notre Dame is off to the worst start in school history at 0-5. But Tucker’s Jamoris Slaughter says he’s not wavering on this summer’s decision to commit to the Irish.
“[Notre Dame coaches] told me at the beginning of the season that they have a young team and this year was going to be one of the years where they don’t have a lot of experience,” Slaughter said.
“I just see this an opportunity for me to go there [next season] and help. A lot of people say ‘you still want to go to Notre Dame?’
“Just because they’re having a bad year, it really doesn’t affect me.”
Slaughter still holds scholarship offers from Georgia and Georgia Tech.
“I like Georgia, but I really decided I wanted to get out of the state for some reason,” he said.
“I haven’t been a Notre Dame fan all my life. I liked Michigan growing up, but I thought Notre Dame would be the best school for me education wise.”
Dennard down to Alabama and Clemson
Alphonzo Dennard of Wilcox County, ranked No. 1 in Class A, said Sunday night he has narrowed his choices to Alabama and Clemson.
“I’m not close to committing,” said Dennard, who is being recruited as a receiver. “I’ll wait until after the season.”
Dennard, whose twin brother Lorenzo Dennard is Wilcox’s starting quarterback, said the coaches at Alabama and Clemson appeal to him.
“I really like the coaching staff at Alabama, especially [head coach] Nick Saban,” he said. “And I’m a big fan of Clemson coach Tommy Bowden. I’ve had a chance to talk to him and I think he’s a good coach.”

Sanders Commings is supposed to commit soon? Anything new on him? Also, did the kid out of Los Angeles, Rahim Moore, or Dontavius Jackson make it to Athens this weekend?
Thanks for the Updates Jeff!

I hope the High School Football recruits who have the opportunity to pursue their College Education and Football career at a State College or University will understand how important it is to have pride in your “home state” and elect to stay in Georgia instead of leaving for another College/University in another state. If you evaluate Florida’s program one primary reason for their success is the decision of the recruits to stay and play for Florida. It would be great if the Georgia recruits would do the same as we need you to stay home and take pride in YOUR STATE!

i agree with Rick S if the ga boys stayed in state we could win national championships and put our state on the map because ga is the _ _ _ _ right now!

Rick s and david, using your logic, some of UGA’s top players (i.e. the starting QB, leading receiver, several RB’s etc.) wouldn’t be on the team. The knife cuts both ways…

The players are already at UGA to win and win big. I lay the blame on medicore coaching at wide receiver, defense, and the lack of fire/killer instinct that elite teams have. We always struggle with crap teams constantly and barely beat decent teams. We never throw deep much. Bobo looks decent one minute and a complete fool the next. Our defense never rushes the QB, we just sit back and play crap defense. The players are already here…lets recruit better coaching other than CMR

Glenn, very well said. All GA’s home players can’t stay in state, but the key (in good HS football states) is for that program to get a significant number of its (top) instate recruits among recruits from other states. GA is generally considered the 4 or 5th best recruiting state in the country (behind FL, TX, CA, & right with OH). Mark Richt & UGA couldn’t be expected to do a better job of that than very good job they’ve been doing. They’ve also benefited from being far & away the #1 recruiting school in the state in recent years, with little competition from Georgia Tech, which’s an advantage that’s looking to be dwindling.

The selling of Tech Football…Need I say more……Pretty sad when your football program has to sell itself……Pretty sad…I always get a kick how Tech has to promote selling season tickets….HA HA….get 4 slices of pizza….4 drinks…..4 tickets…. 2 for 1 pizza coupons….1 parking pass….It’s killing me …..(All for $135) It cost at least $120 for 2 tickets at UGA when you include the donation fees…Sad, so sad

To “The Selling of Georgia Tech” - You may be ignorant. See, what they don’t teach you at UGA is that EVERYTHING that is successful is “marketed”, or have to “sell itself”….THAT’S HOW IT BECOMES SUCCESSFUL! Georgia has a successful team of athletes that, for the most part, wins games….that’s how you “sell yourself”. We haven’t reach that level (in a while) so we have to market ourself in other ways to hope to, in addition to our greatly improving recruiters, attract top recruits to our school…..SO WE TOO CAN BE SUCCESSFUL…see how that works? …..no?….sorry, keep forgetting. There are more Georgia Alumni in Georgia than there are Georgia Tech grads in the world. (Actual Statistic) We can’t help it that our school doesn’t give out degree’s like candy.

why should georgian student athletes stay in state, when the university of georgia or ga tech does not graduate their student athletes. coaches richt and galley don’t give a damn about educating these young men. the graduation rates for both schools is ridiculous! if the numbers are accurate, i would love to see the stats for minorities. jeez! uga has one of the lowest rates of minority admissions at a southern flagship university and tech is just as bad. sure they both will get high end athletes, but they will never make a serious run at another national championship until parents are secure in sending their children there. when states like florida and mississippi are graduating their student-athletes, then uga and tech should look at themselves with a lot more scrutiny.
