Georgia-bound Jackson still looking; Commings down to three

Published on: 09/27/07 10:57 PM

Georgia-bound Griffin defensive end Toby Jackson said he intends to continue making rounds throughout the ACC and SEC this fall.

“I still want to go to games at Tennessee, Florida State, Clemson, Auburn, Alabama and Georgia,” said Jackson, who attended Georgia’s victory over Oklahoma State and Mississippi State’s upset win over Auburn earlier this month.

After implying that his commitment with Georgia is solid, Jackson went on to say he his intrigued by Alabama.

“I like Alabama a lot,” Jackson said. “Some of the things Georgia has, Alabama also has like the atmosphere, coaches and environment.

“And [Alabama coach] Nick Saban will recruit a lot of guys like myself and be deep.”

Jackson said the Bulldog Nation shouldn’t fret over his desire to visit as many programs as possible prior to national signing day in February.

“They have nothing to worry about, right now,” he said.

Westside’s Commings names three

Westside, Augusta receiver/defensive back Sanders Commings has narrowed the list of schools he is considering to three.

“It’s either going to be Georgia, South Carolina or Georgia Tech,” said Commings, who has eliminated Florida and Maryland from consideration.

Commings, who has received permission from each program to play both football and baseball, said the three schools are neck and neck.

“They’re all pretty even right now,” he said.

Commings remains open on playing offense or defense.

“Receiver or defensive back is fine,” he said. “It really doesn’t matter to me.”

Uzzi to attend Tech-Clemson game

Chamblee offensive lineman Omoregie Uzzi continues to consider scholarship offers from programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Central Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Virginia.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Uzzi was a guest of the Crimson Tide during Alabama’s overtime loss to Georgia on Saturday.

“It was nice,” said Uzzi, who plans to be at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday when Tech hosts Clemson. “It turned out to be a fun game.”

Uzzi had an opportunity to meet Saban prior to last weekend’s contest.

“He’s a real serious guy,” Uzzi said.

I believe Toby to be a man of his word.. That’s why he’s UGA bound.. He’s going to get under the wings of CMR and not only become an adult but become a good hard nosed, Christian person that will earn his degree..

Commings to UGA too…

Book it!!

I think Toby Jackson is some kid who likes to read his name in the paper and keep people talking about him. I would not consider him a committment.

I love how the folks expecting commits to “honor their word” are the same ones who salivated over false rumors of Josh Nesbitt decommitting.

Who is Josh Nesbitt?

Josh Nesbitt was a 2007 recruit. He grew up a big UGA fan but signed with Tech because they told him he could play QB, while UGA said that his future would be best served as athlete, likely safety. UGA liked Logan Gray better at QB and got him, Nesbitt wanted to play QB, so he went to Tech.

I’d love to have Toby in Athens. I do think he likes to hear and see his name - not an unusual characteristic. Josh Nesbitt would be the best QB the Gnats have had since either Shawn Jones or Joe Hamilton, but Gailey hasn’t developed a QB in the tickle pile yet. In fact, we’ve only seen them regress - witness Reggie “Fourth Down” Ball and the recently downward spiraling Taylor Bennett.

Georgia har recruited well so far, but they need to focus on the trenches. We need some 5 star defensive and offensive lineman. Th O l ine will be one of the best nest season because they will all be back and have experience. The D line seems to lack a pass rush at critical times in the fourth quarter. We need a Pollack like player on that line. Skill players are in place. Moreno and King will solidify the backfield for many years. We have some young receivers ready to step up and make plays. It dosent hurt to start looking for the next stud quarterback unless you are comfortable with Joe Cox, who I feel can play. I wish Van Gorder would come back and coach the defense. He seemed to have those guys playing like animals on every down. Next year Georgia will compete for a national championship with that experienced offensive line.

Let’s not worry about next year and any championships to come because we haven’t won one since 1980 and until we beat Florida we never will even compete for one. So, until we can go into Jacksonville and leave with a notch in the win column it’s probably best to keep our mouth shut about a National Championship contender…….that’s why everyone loves beating us because we always talk about next year! If we let Spurrier start beating us again, we won’t even sniff a NC! So lets worry about beating Ole Miss then Tenn then……..

Plus this cloumn is about Toby and Sanders……..I would love to have both of this talented individuals suit up in red and black! Toby looks to be the Pollack type player we’ve been missing and I hope is true to word, but I wish them both the best of luck with the decision that lies ahead. Only they truly know what is best for them.

Raymond You couldn’t be more right about Jackson.I know he’s just a kid but his act gets old quick.Commings is the one I really hope comes to UGA.Mark it down this guy’s underrated.I think he could make the best playmaker in the secondary since Richt came to town. He’s not rated very high by Scout but I’ll be very surprised if he’s not a real star.I see him as a free safty who’s a coach on the field with game changing ability.

UGA has already got one of the top defensive lines in the nation coming in next year which includes #1 tackle Deangelo Tyson and they don’t need to bring in a QB with 3 young ones and 3 big time high school QBs in the state coming out next year. And one of thems mother works for UGA.

Have watched Toby Jackson play the last two years. This year he is also being used as a tight end and can catch the ball. This alone could make him a welcome addition to the Dogs.
