UGA recruiting class impresses Jackson; Parks talks FSU
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Latest news
Heard County running back Dontavius Jackson said Saturday he will stick with his plan to commit in October, when he is expected to choose between Georgia, Clemson, Alabama, LSU and Penn State.
With practice set to begin at Heard County on Monday, Jackson said he intends to continue monitoring how each of the five programs is progressing in recruiting.
“That’s homework,” he said. “I think Georgia has the best recruiting class in the country right now.”
When asked if that puts Georgia in the lead for his services, Jackson, who rushed for over 2,200 yards last season, refused to tip his hand.
“You want to go to a winning program that can contend for an ACC, SEC or national title,” Jackson said. “And you want to go to a school where you can get an education.”
So does Georgia meet his standards?
“Oh, yeah,” Jackson said.
Parks reflects on his commitment to FSU
Nearly two weeks after committing to Florida State, Creekside cornerback Terrance Parks said recruiting coaches from other schools continue to contact him.
But Parks indicated he’s not willing to renege on his word to the Seminoles.
“I still feel good about it,” Parks said. “It’s the right move for me. I’m dead on for FSU.”
Parks said his attraction to the Tallahassee-based school was two-fold: reputation and Florida State coach Bobby Bowden:
“I’ve been liking FSU and Miami since I was in middle school,” he said. “The opportunity came and it’s something I wanted to be part of.
“And when you think about Bobby Bowden, you got to think that he’s doing something right because he’s won so many games.”
Parks is confident the recent wholesale changes made on the FSU coaching staff will allow the Seminoles to regain the national prominence it once enjoyed.
“I’m very excited,” Parks said. “That’s their goal and they want me to be part of it.”
Charlton’s Bolden to become a Boilermaker
Purdue pulled off a recruiting coup in the state of Georgia on Thursday by picking up a commitment from Charlton County running back Ralph Bolden.
Bolden had also been considering scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, Clemson, South Carolina and Wake Forest.
“I just liked the atmosphere at Purdue,” Bolden said.
Charlton County coach Rich McWhorter was the first person outside of Bolden’s family to hear the news.
“I told my head coach first, then I told my recruiting coach,” Bolden said. “[Coach McWhorter] was actually happy about it. He said I can’t go wrong going up there.”
Down to three for Gainesville’s Wells
Gainesville defensive end Keith Wells said Saturday he will commit to Auburn, Florida or Florida State.
He had previously been considering offers from Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Auburn.
Wells on his final three:
Auburn - “I like the way they use Quentin Groves at outside linebacker and defensive end. I can actually see myself playing that position. I like Auburn’s campus. It’s a real nice football town and not too far away from home.”
Florida - “I had a great experience when I went down to Florida. I met a lot of the coaches. I like their football program, and the campus really felt nice.”
Florida State - “Overall, it was probably the best place I visited. Their weight room, facility, the coaching, they just impressed me with everything down there.”
Football practice begins on Wednesday for Wells and his Gainesville teammates. He said a commitment isn’t far behind.
“I’ll wait a few weeks and make my decision when it feels right,” he said. “I’ve got to keep evaluating, evaluating, evaluating and pray.”

Well, we lose another one. I really thought Wells was coming to Tech. Nothing new, I guess. Why do the big in-state recruits not like us?

Dane- are you kidding? Have you ever been on a campus visit there? They see that no one speaks English, the girls model for Alpo, and is surrounded by the ghetto. Come to Death Valley…much more scenic.

Wells has the right to choose any school he wants but it would be to his advantage to rethink the GA schools. He can be a local star or the kid we got from GA. He should talk to players who choose to leave whose football careers are over.

Jeff Hood,
Where is the headlie that says that Georgia Tech got dumped by Keith Wells of Gainesville high School. If Georgia had offered this young man (which we did not), I know the AJC would write a title that reads, “Wells dumps Dogs.” You talk about being fair so let’s see you write something like this about Tech. Just this week, you wrote that Georgia was dumped by Tyler Love, when Love chose the in-state school, Alabama. Alabama is the school he had favored since day one. Last I checked, Gainesville is in teh State of Georgia and no such headline from the so called “fair” AJC writers.
The AJC wants to pretend that it works both ways and that they give equal praise/criticism to both schools, but this is clearly not the case. I see you buried the Keith Wells recruiting news so you could insert another storyline about Jackson, who likes Georgia, and another recruit who is sticking to FSU. Nice try John but it won’t work.

If you have to ask why Wells dropped Ghetto Yech from his list of schools, then the education level at Yech must be drastically overrated.

If Soupy Sales went to school, he still must learn to read! Jackson said that he wanted to go to a winning program that can contend for an ACC, SEC or national title. GA is a winning program (4th best record over the last 10 years), and won 2 SEC titles. And if you win the SEC, you’re certainly contending for a national title. That’s why GA finished 3rd in the country when it won the SEC in 2002. Don’t know if Soupy went to Tech or is a Tech fan, but he can’t compare the success of GT’s program to Ga’s over the past 10 years.

Soupy,
DaddyDawg is right. No SEC or ACC team has more top 10 FINISHES than UGA since Richt stepped foot on the UGA campus. Daddy Dawg also let you know that only three teams have won more games over the last 10 years.
That is a whole lotta winning. tech? not so much.

I’m actually rather happy we didn’t get Wells. I just looked at what he said about why he liked each school and not one mention of academics or the program he may want to go into. He went as in depth as mentioning the coaches and even (gasp) the weight room being major parts of his decision. Had he chosen GT we could have been assured of him failing out and transferring to UGA after a year or two in JUCO.

Allright do you guys want to know the truth about Wells or not?
Wells left Tech out because he didn’t want to stay in state. The only reason he kept tech on his list was that he wanted to major in computer engineering and his mom really like Tech. He didn’t want to go to ugag at all because mom didn’t like them nor did they have his major(to my knowledge). That is why UGA did not offer Wells. Their was no point. Just like the dogs never offered Claytor last year. He didn’t want to go. Jeez you would think just because he didn’t get offer that he isn’t worthy of ugag. 4 star DE ranked 21 in the nation. Yeah he sucks. If florida offered then he is more then worthy for the mutts.
And don’t you worry about tech were focusing on DT this year. Look up TJ Barnes Uzzi and Brandon Thompson. Tech is recruiting all of them at DT. Oh and their recruiting William Green #13 DE in the nation. BTW Toby Jackson is just #15…….if he even stays their.

I see where Stafford thinks that Will Ferrell is hilarious!!! Will someone tell Mathew that the politics of Ferrell are so repulsive to most UGa fans that some may doubt his courage and heart if agress with an anti American coward. I suggested last year that that the defense that couldn’t stop Vanderbilt or Kentucky didn’t have heart— now I worry seriously about the offensive leader (Stafford). It shows terrible judgment to let any Uga fans know that Ferrell is someone that you respect in any way. With that kind of judgment, our backup quarterbacks better get ready. Stafford’s decision making skills don’t even rate freshman quality.

I don’t think participation in Tickle Piles was an issue for Wells. We don’t need to stop Tickle Piles just return them to their original purpose: wholesome clean fun. When alumni introduced sex into the piles that’s when things got out of hand.

That might be the stupidest post I’ve ever seen on this board in years. MS said Ferrell is funny. He didn’t say he should run for president.
You, Dr. P, are a flaming idiot.
PS. Being opposed to a senseless war that costs the lives of thousands of dearly loved and valuable American soldiers does not make one an anti-American coward.

*How many RBs will GA have on it’s roster next year? I’m thinking 4-5 RBs who are pretty talented will be sitting on the bench. *
These kids aren’t the brightest individuals because they will NEVER be able to show an NFL scout that they are any good by warming the bench.
My brother-in-law is a scout for the Bears and that’s what he told me when I talked to him about all of the “potential” superstar RBs at UGA. Why would you waste time on the bench when you could start at so many other schools? I guess because Mark Richt will let his players play the tough games even if they get arrested!

Hey DumbRBsinGA,
“I guess because Mark Richt will let his players play the tough games even if they get arrested!”
You obviously do not know the first thing about Coach Richt and UGA. Coach Richt is consistent in the way he penalizes players and does not suspend them based upon our schedule. There have been a number of “tough games” in which CMR has set players out for various offenses. And keep in mind, the majority of the “arrests” are UNDER AGE DRINKING!! What did you sir do in college?? If you even went to college!

“You want to go to a winning program that can contend for an ACC, SEC or national title”. Well that only leaves Georgia and LSU. The only two schools out of his final 4 to have won a (football) Championship of any kind in the past 5+ years. Clemson has not won a conference title since the induction of FSU into the ACC. Alabama hasn’t done anything to speak of since they’ve had to start playing fair. I’ll be fair to PSU since they’ve had a couple of good years lately but come on, the Big 10 (actually 11). “And you want to go to a school where you can get an education.” So much for LSU. Welcome to UGa DJ.

Look at the depth chart now:
Seniors: Kregg Lumpkin, Thomas Brown, Jason Johnson Juniors: N/A Sophomers: N/A Freshmen: Knowshon Moreno (redshirt), Caleb King Committed: Richard Samuel
In other words, 3 of the 5 on the depth chart will be graduating after the 2007 season. If D. Jackson commits to Georgia, there will be plenty of playing time available for him and Samuel. Richt and Bobo already said they want about 4-5 scholarship backs (not including FB) on the roster. Plus, one of them will probably redshirt, creating some separation. Don’t worry about playing time. They’ll get it. Bobo is much different than Richt when it comes to running back play.

Samuel most likely will be a linebacker, which makes the guy’s post even less relevant and credible.

Dontavius Jackson should be considering Penn State as his best choice. Penn State will be losing both Austin Scott and Kinlaw to graduation, and PSU hasn’t had a true running back recruit in 2 years. They did pick-up Brandon Beachum from Ohio, but he looks more like a fullback or a linebacker. Also, Penn States O-line will be a force to reckon with next year, and DJ will get plenty of playing time if he chooses PSU. Freshman running backs at PSU have received plenty of playing time under Joepa. PSU may be know as Linebacker U but we have had plenty of great running backs. DJ could be playing in front of 108000 for every home game, for a legendary coach, at excellent academic university. What more could you ask for?

Jackson, UGAY obviously failed to teach you anything about writing. This is not proper English: “Typical for a Tech fan…full of contradictions.” People that live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. I’ll explain what that means since you’re a really stupid person. You shouldn’t have critiqued him since you’re similarly flawed. Spend more time studying and less time in the tickle piles. UGAY fans are an embarrassment to this state.

Is UGA going to run an I-formation w/ 3 RBs and a FB? My guess is that they will have to because they have no talent at WRs.
I went to UF and you can talk all day but when it comes to what happens on the field, we own UGA!

Hey Mr. Davey,
One clarification on Nick Claytor. I won’t claim to know the whole story on why UGA didn’t offer or why he didn’t want to come to UGA.
I do know from reading recruiting updates from Chad Simmons at ugasports.com that it was well known that UGA wanted to evaluate Claytor in person / on campus before they offered him and never got the chance to do so, for whatever reason.
I have heard speculation that Claytor felt that his video should have been enough to evaluate him but I will not hang my hat on that rumor.
Regardless, I do believe there is more to the story than the idea that he didn’t want to go to UGA so UGA just said, “Why bother to offer? He doesn’t like us.”
