Green to visit Tech; Georgia to host Love

Published on: 07/12/07 10:47 PM

High-regarded defensive end William Green of Spain Park High in Hoover, Ala. is scheduled to visit Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Florida, Florida State, Alabama and Tech are among the 35 schools that have extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-5, 208-pound Green.

“I’m hoping to see the academic side of Georgia Tech on Saturday, get to know some more of the coaches and see more of the campus,” said Green, who is rated as the 13th-best defensive end in the nation by Scout.com.

While admitting that he recently listed the Gators, Seminoles and Crimson Tide as his three current favorites, Green said he’s still very interested in Tech.

“[Georgia Tech] is still going to be on my list,” he said. “[Florida, Florida State and Alabama] are just the three that happen to stand out the most right now.”

Saturday’s stop in Atlanta likely won’t be Green’s final tour of a college campus this summer.

“I want to go back to Florida and go over to Clemson,” Green said. “And I’d like to get back to Florida State.”

Love preparing for third visit to Athens

Mountain Brook (Ala.) offensive lineman Tyler Love confirmed Thursday evening that he plans to visit Georgia on July 21.

The Bulldogs are in a five-way tussle with Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Oklahoma for a commitment from the mammoth 6-foot-7, 285-pound tackle.

Love figures he’ll likely stray off campus next weekend.

“I’ve never been deep into the heart of campus,” Love said. “I want to get a better feel for Athens, the players and campus. And I just want to hang out with the coaches.”

Love said coaches from his five finalists contact him on a daily basis.

“They’re calling, texting a lot and sending me mail,” he said.

North Cobb’s Roark weighs offers

Georgia Tech will play host to North Cobb quarterback Matt Roark on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets, Kentucky, Duke, Wake Forest, Oregon, Illinois, South Florida and UAB are actively recruiting the 6-foot-6, 195-pound speedster, who is projected to play wide receiver on the next level.

Roark recently attended camps at South Carolina, Tennessee and Duke.

He’s waiting to see if scholarship offers arrive from the Gamecocks and Volunteers.

“I’m not really in a hurry [to commit] right now,” Roark said. “I was going to try to make a decision before the season starts. But that’s too hard.

“I want to think about it some more. I need to see a little bit more. I haven’t got to see too much. I’d like to go to as many official visits as I can.”

Pritchard bound for the Sunshine State

As scholarship offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Memphis, Virginia and Syracuse hung in the balance, North Gwinnett defensive end Robert Pritchard recently pulled the trigger on a commitment to Central Florida.

The 6-foot-3, 219-pound Pritchard fell in love with the Orlando-based school after stepping on campus last month.

“Basically, it was a perfect fit for me,” Pritchard said. “I liked everything about it, from the coaches to the players and the atmosphere.

“They have pretty good academics. And I like all the little things about the dorm rooms and facilities. Plus, it’s not too far from home.”

Pritchard became an instant fan of Golden Knights coach George O’Leary, a former coach at Georgia Tech.

“Yeah, I got to talk to him,” Pritchard said. “He’s a great guy and a good coach. He’s going to be a good man to play for.”

Pritchard said one of his priorities was to make a commitment this summer.

“I just really wanted to get the whole process out of the way so I can focus on my senior year,” he said.

Pritchard admitted that he’s already scanned the Central Florida depth chart at defensive end.

“They have about three or four seniors at that position,” Pritchard said. “But I think I have a pretty good chance of playing if I work hard and do what I’m supposed to do as a freshman.”

First offer for Perry’s Hayward

Perry quarterback/defensive back Casey Hayward collected his first scholarship offer two weeks ago. It arrived from Middle Tennessee State.

“It was just a sense of relief knowing that I had my first offer,” the 6-foot, 172-pound Hayward admitted.

Hayward, who has attended camps at Georgia and Georgia Tech this summer, believes an offer from Jacksonville State is forthcoming.

He plans to attend camps at Jacksonville State and UAB later this month.

Stuart eyeing Ivy League program

Mill Creek linebacker Collin Stuart has attended camps at Ole Miss, SMU and Vanderbilt this summer while awaiting his first scholarship offer.

The 6-foot, 224-pound Stuart, who also plays fullback, could wind up at Columbia.

“Columbia is actively recruiting him,” Stuart’s father Graham Stuart said. “He had hoped to make it to a camp there next week, but he won’t be able to due to a conflict.

“Collin would like to be a dentist. And [Columbia] has one of the best dental programs in the country.”

Stuart has also discussed scholarship opportunities with coaches from Wofford.

Looks like it should be another good recruting year for both programs. The question is will the dogs ever live up all the hype given to them in the offseason. Probably not, but still fun to watch both programs.

By some sense

Will be a good year for Tech - good players and very good coaches…yes, VERY good coaches, starting at the top. Tech “fans” who are not behind Gailey are kidding themselves, living in the same fantasy world as Alabama people. How could Gailey attract guys like Tenuta and Bond if he weren’t really good? How about the upgrade in players? Don’t hold Reggie Ball against him, an aberration.

Georgia will have a special year…just watch. Bunch of guys you’ve never heard of ready to step up. Best offense they’ve had since early Donnan…Robert Edwards, etc. Bobo will be like a kid in a candy store. O-line is very athletic.

Take it to the bank.

For being a school characterized by its so called intellectually superior students, most seem to be quite moronic when it comes to supporting your school. What kind of complex do you wac-jobs have when it comes to your football program and UGA? Get a grip. I would love for UGA to swap places with Tech for one season. You panzies can play our schedule, we will play yours. Then you can start talking about hype. You guys need to develop some pride in your program. What kind of loser mentality consistently compares one’s own program to a program of an in-state rival? Grow some marbles. Even your darn fight song makes you folks inferior. Constantly referring to UGA. Do you goofs not get it that we really don’t care about Tech’s program? In all seriousness, I want tech to have a good program. I want tech to do well. That way at the annual game, when the dawgs win, it helps my alma matter’s stature and ranking. When are you folks going to realize that you really are an afterthought when it comes to our football season? Get a grip - not on yourself of course, but reality. Go bash FSU or Miami or Va Tech. For goodness sakes, at least figure a way to win your own league before you start whining about another school’s hype. What a friggin tool.

funny how the grady grad / uga fan immmediately blamed a tech fan for the ‘live up to the hype post’.

he need only look at the blogs and message boards of both schools to realize that it is dawg posters who post way more often at our sites than the other way around. duhhhhh. i think that his post reflects more on his school than it does gt.

and as for ‘get a grip’…. i think he is the same guy with the tickle pile fetish (see the first post). this is exactly what happens when a uga fan keeps getting a grip tooo often ahem.

sexually deviant behavior aside i have to wonder if it is just something about uga that attracts this type of fan. maybe this is why they were called the sheep or was it goats years ago. sheep and that kind of behavior seem to go together from what i hear.

than again if i was one of those uga fans living in a trailer park i would be getting a grip every chance i could….

What is it with UGA fans having thie Superiority complex? You guys sound like broken record every year. ” Why don’t you play our tough schedule each year” or “you guys are just an afterthought”. If you think Tech fans don’t take pride in their program then you need some marbles bud. Actually, Tech’s football program has been around a lot longer than the Athens community school and has more tradition. Get over yourself, you guys lost to Vanderbilt, spanked by KY and barely beat Colorado. WOW tough schedule Grad. Yea I would love for some of those athletes come to Tech and take some actual courses besides pillow weaving!

Someone please explain the “tickle piles” thing to me. If it’s relevant some how, I’d like to see how it might be funny. If it’s just something someone came up with and is driving into the ground, they’re kinda coming off like Michael Scott on the Office. Only more embarrassing and less funny. So again, how is tickle piles relevant to Tech?

brian; the tickle pile that the deviant ugag bloggers are referring to must be similar to that picture of chubby matt stafford spooning with his teammate that was all over the net recently. i think they are trying to divert scrutiny into their forms of merry-making. how about it, dawgs, is this the answer? it is the only explanation i can think of.

Ugawho and Jacket, you’re both idiots. Grady Grad said it perfectly. Tech fans are the biggest bunch of cry baby, pathetic losers in college football. Your season revolves around the UGA game, don’t deny it. Tech would be happy with a 1-11 season if they could beat UGA. And, the fact is, UGA has bigger fish to fry. Yet, Tech fans act like this game is not important. Do you know why? Tech is not in the same class as UGA, and it just kills you all. It really shows in your idiotic posts. “UGA lost to Vandy and Kentucky”…is all I read. They fail to mention that that same team also beat Tech…Again. I’ve lived in Atl almost two years now, and I am a life-long Penn State fan. I did not prefer Uga over Tech when I moved here. However, I didn’t take long for me to determine that Tech fans are truly a pathetic bunch of whinners. I decided that I would choose a local team to root for when I moved here, and Tech fans made my decision an easy one. UGA gets my support (except if they play Penn ST)

Hey Jacket, You should pay attention more often. I have been berating my fellow UGA fans for the tickle pile comments. Personally I think they are stupid. The trailer park comment is funny. Never lived in one, never plan to - but I also never know down which roads I will travel through life. You have no insight as to who I am, what I do or to where I live. But you make personal attacks. I make no attacks on Tech. I never have, never will. I have respect for the school. This of course comes from my Godfather, a great uncle, a World War II vet that served during the entirety of the Pacific Campaign without so much as a scratch. He left the Navy at the end of the War and they sent him to Tech on the GI Bill. He graduated in 2.5 years with a degree in Industrial Engineering, I think. I’m not quite sure. But I think it’s safe to say that graduating in 2.5 years from any institution of higher learning after spending 4 years floating around the Pacific (places like Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Peliliu, Okinawa just to name a few) is impressive. He didn’t really like it when I went there, but he encouraged me to always do my best. I was never the math or science wiz, so I knew early on Tech was not the school for me. But I have never gotten down on Tech. So, before you start making pompous, arrogant statements, making you should stop, take a second and think about who you are referring to. Also, take notice in here that I did not once level a personal attack against you. For some pride is anonymously berating someone on a blog. For others, pride is being able to look in the mirror at the end of the day and know that I was a good person today. Which are you?

Go Dawgs!!!

UGA now offering a 4 year degree in household waste manangement. It requires a GPA of 2.0 or below and grading out well in either football or basketball. This should go well to recruit stupid student athletes that don’t care about academics, but just want to play ball and party at the 52 bars in downtown Athens. Since UGA already offers degrees in livestock management, poultry science and food science, recruiting the trailer parks and ghettos should continue to do well.

Ugh. It’s the middle of July and we’re already slinging you know what trying to decide who has the longer peeing stream. I think everyone should grow up a bit. Hell, I cheer for tech as long as theyré not playing FSU or UGA (I’m an alum at both) I cheer for them in bowls, I cheer for them all year long. If anything, I think Tech and UGA fans should ALWAYS cheer for the other EXCEPT on that one glorious day of good old fashioned hate. Let’s face it; It’s an out of conference game to end the season. The conference championships aren’t on the line, so all we really play for is pride, and hopefully someday to defend an undeafeated record on the way to the NCG. If anything I want Tec to be as good as possible so it helps our strength of schedule and actually tests the manhood of both teams at the end of the year. That’s the reason I think I”m a reasonale dawg. I hate Tennessee all year round. I HATE Florida all year round and also in my sleep. Tech is a fine program, I could care less about bad mouthing their fans. THe only day I hate them is that magical day in late November when I just want to punch anyone wearing Yellow. That is what I believe the essence of that game should be. (ok, I admit, I’ll bad mouth them the week prior to the game as well)

UCF is beating out ACC and SEC schools this year? The LB from North Gwinnett and the RB from Peachtree Ridge chose UCF over Miss. St., Ole Miss, Kentucky, Virginia, VA Tech. That new campus stadium and facilitiles, is allowing the program to come up. A tough non-conference schedule helps, especially hosting the Texas Longhorns.

as a Tech student i look forward to the UGA game more than our ACC rivals like CLemson and VT(although i also look forward to those games). Yep i’ll admit it, because i have a lot more friends at UGA than i do at Clemson or VT, and every year i go tailgate with them, and we all talk a lot of crap (both before and after the game) all in good spirits though. It’s “Good Old Fashioned Hate”. But every article i read lately has a ton of posts just bashing the schools, some guys (at both schools) need to chill for a little while, we have 4 months till the game, and both teams have a whole season to look at before that

The Tickle Pile issue is no laughing matter. Tickle Piles have gotten totally out of control on campus. What was once a harmless silly custom has turned into a huge public health issue for our campus and something must be done about it.

Hey guys, I must admit I’m lost on the “Tickle Pile” issue, but I just want to say that as an Alabama Fan, I cheer for both UGA and Tech. (When they’re not playing Alabama, of course.) But seriously, Richt has built a great program in Athens and I always keep my fingers crossed in hoping for a Georgia win over Florida or Tennessee. And I would love to see Tech take down Notre Dame this year. Either way, I’m looking forward to the football season regardless. I hope both teams have a great season, although you know where my loyalties will lie on September 22!

what is this tickle pile thing? the only tickle pile i have ever seen was the fumble in last seasons UGA/Tech game, and correct me if i’m wrong but there were UGA students in that pile as well, in fact a UGA player came up with it and scored, which leaves me to believe he was less confused by what was going on, and more practiced in tickle piles, so maybe you UGA guys are just trying to pawn off one of your traditions on us?

This whole conversation reminds me of an old war movie. I can’t remember the name of it, but there was an American soldier stranded on an island in the Pacific with a Japanese soldier. The war had been over for several years, but neither soldier knew it and so they continued to fight, day after day.

While the football rivalry, if you can call it that, wages on, this war of witty banter must stop. The war is over people. The Georgia Institute of Technology surrendered to the victorious group from The Classic City. This was not by choice, but because they were beaten.

The death blow sounded as the Yellow Jackets fell on their own sword following an event, so embarrassing that no further smack could ever be issued. This event can best be described with two words that will forever bring a smile to the face of UGA fans.

The words… FLAG BOY!!!

For those of you still on an island in the Pacific, who may doubt the truth of this story, I refer you to your own tabloid. On November 12, 2004 an article appeared in the Technique entitled “For men on color guard, flags are anything but ‘girly’”.

Yellow Jackets, you fought valiantly, but the war is over!

Whats a Tickle Pile - You’ve got it all wrong. The Tech players were so excited to finally have a pile to tickle in that they forgot all about the ball. For them, it was tough to pass up such a glorious tickling opportunity. Needless to say, Tony Taylor was quite confused and disgusted by the whole thing, and managed to exit the pile as quickly as possible with the ball.

hey Stop the madness, the movie is Hell in the Pacific. Good movie. Odd thing is that both folks wind up capturing the other for a time before eventually they learn to partner up for survival and escape. They wind up on some island somewhere that looks to have been through the war. Until the end of the movie when a bomb blows the both of them to pieces. Quite an elloquent ending.

Tickle piles are real. They have been a tradition at Tech for 45 years. They started out west in girls schools and somehow caught on at Tech. Original tickle piles started with girls tickling each other to the point of hysteria with more and more girls piling on. Tech’s version is the same except its boys/men and they get naked. It started out innocently but the events have become more aggressive and have become a significant health issue .

To Jeff Hood:

Maybe it is time to place “tickle” on the list of banned words for all of the AJC blogs. If you can identify the idiot, his email address should be banned from all blogs as well……just a thought.

The moron who thinks he is being funny is just wasting everyone’s time and making the blogs boring.

There is a VERY obvious trend which any unbiased person would admit ==> most of the negative/attacking posts on the various AJC blog sites are from UGA fans. I graduated from GT in 1990. I am married to a very attractive and very intelligent woman who went to UGA. Many of my friends are die hard UGA fans and most of them are not your typical ignorant and annoying UGA fans.

Apparently, the people posting these ridiculous blogs are too stupid to realize that they are confirming the negative image most people in America have regarding the typical UGA fan.

Do DAWG Nation a favor and block the purely negative and ignorant bloggers so they cannot add to the already prevalent negative image……because all UGA fans are not idiots!

GT Fan: You’re married to a UGA girl kinda like Reggie Ball was a great quarterback, right? I go to Georgia, and every single girl I know think Techies are a complete joke. Dream on, bubba.

No self respecting UGA girl would marry a Tech Grad. No sex life is not appealing.

I will gladly take the UGA image over one of a GT grad. You may have a well respected school nationally but in Georgia your image is definitely a disadvantage.

I don’t know why you meanies make fun of the Tech tickle.I was a lonesome and mother said misunderstood UGA student. One weekend I went to the Tech campus for a class on flower arrangement .After class we were judged on our creations.I was happy as a school girl when my vase of daisies took first place. What made the weekend perfect was when my classmates jumped me and tickled me to hysterics.I never felt so warm (or sore) and I soon transfered to Tech.I haven’t had a lonely day since.

As per usual, more of the usual babble from the UGAy dullards. Nobody else cares about your Cow College but Bubba and the rest of your bandwagon fans. Ask any college football fan to rank the top 5 SEC teams in order of greatness, past or present, and he will always rank Bama first, followed by UcheaT, UF, LSU and finally the barn.

I would root for uga if they played ND too.

That said…….William Green is already on campus which is funny that you guys even mention that. I wish some uga fans would get a life and not attack the tech campus and students. You guys need to get a grip on life itself. It’s summer you have no idea how either teams season will turn out. Last time I checked this was a Recruiting Blog.

Lastly if you guys don’t give a crap about tech how come you try to degrade us and make us feel insignificent. Tech will beat you guys one day and if your caught wearing a uga shirt i will rip you into shreds. I’m tired of all this crap. So you guys better just hope you never lose to tech. The day that happens I’ll be their to laugh in your face. It very well may be this year.

This is a recruiting blog, if you are not going to talk about the recruits and the possiblity of them choosing GA, GA Tech or other school then go someplace else to spew that nonsense. I for one pull for both of my in state programs except when they play each other then I pull for the Dawgs because I went and played there. Like most families I have ties to both schools as one of my grandfathers graduated from GT as an Electrical Engineer and I have several cousins and a niece and nephew who graduated from Tech as well. Both are fine Universities and have a fine tradition of excellence in academics as well as football and other sports. Go Dawgs and Go Jackets

I’m with you BigDawg. I may trash talk Tech, but no one can trash talk their academic excellence period. I’m looking forward to seeing UGA vs USC this year and may come down for the BC vs TECH game. As a past season ticket holder (Boston College) I’m looking forward to their upcoming season. BC may not get the best recruits, but they do play hard and smart football. The new coach (weird name) is doing a great job recruiting and it looks like they may have a great recruiting season next year…they may even be a serious (national)contender in a couple of years. They just have to land some legit talent in the skill positions

Well said Big Dawg!

Have some state pride. If you live in Georgia, you should pull for both teams (UGA & GT). I want UGA to win all of their games except for when they play GT of course.

LOL - I have rather strong evidence that the person that posts the negative comments about Tech isn’t even a UGA person or Clemson person. He posts under many different names. If it is who I suspect, it is a boy that was rejected by GA Tech to play baseball and also could not get regular admission into Tech….. he is now at Emory and plays baseball there. Can you say “bitter?” LMFAO!!!!!!

Please stick to recruiting on this blog, leave the childish comments to less serious boards.
