Dogs, Tide, Tigers court Tucker’s Lipscomb; Dacula update
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 07/02/07 10:55 PM
Latest news
Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Virginia have made scholarship offers to Tucker cornerback Neiko Lipscomb.
First-year Tucker coach Franklin Stephens labeled the 6-foot-2, 170-pound Lipscomb an impact player.
“I was really impressed with Neiko in the spring,” said Stephens, who moved to Tucker following a stint as an assistant under coach Jeff Herron at Camden County.
“He’s a tall, slender kid. But he’s a lot more physical than I thought he’d be. He’s a big-time playmaker who can play safety or corner.”
Stephens confirmed that Georgia, Alabama and Auburn are among the five teams still under consideration by Lipscomb.
“Neiko hasn’t had a chance to visit colleges this summer,” Stephens said. “So I think [his decision] will come down to his official visits this fall.”
Dacula’s Battle likely to commit in July
Dacula safety/running back Khiry Battle is ready for the recruiting process to conclude.
“I saw what Caleb King went through last year,” said Battle, a transfer from Greater Atlanta Christian, said, “and it seemed pretty stressful. I don’t want to go through that.”
King received more than 60 offers and faced constant scrutiny, before committing to Georgia in November.
Battle, who has 15 scholarship offers, plans on committing later this month. Northwestern is the latest school to extend an offer to the 6-1, 205-pound senior.
Battle’s older brother Deante Battle is an All-Big Ten defensive back at Northwestern.
Khiry Battle says Indiana, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Arkansas, Northwestern and North Carolina State are at the top of his list.
He’s trying to squeeze in visits to Michigan State, Arkansas, Central Florida, North Carolina State and Kentucky before making his decision.
While most schools are projecting Battle as a defensive back in college, some programs-North Carolina State, Central Florida, Eastern Michigan and East Carolina-see him as a running back.
“It doesn’t matter,” Battle said. “I’ll play whatever position that gets me on the field the quickest.”
Tucker’s Jones sports two Division I offers
Robert Jones, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound offensive/defensive lineman has offers from Marshall and Virginia.
“And I think Purdue is close and Georgia is a possibility,” Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said of his star lineman’s other scholarship prospects.
“Robert went to the Georgia camp about three weeks ago and did a really good job.”
Stephens plans to use Jones as a two-way player this fall.
“I think Robert is a kid with huge potential,” Stephens said. “He has size, speed and a frame that, when you get up on him, is a lot bigger than you believe.”
“I think he has a lot of room to grow. I think that is what some of the colleges like about him.”
Jones, who plans to attend a one-day camp at Wake Forest later this month, hasn’t indicated to his coach that he’s close to making a commitment.
“I think he is going to wait and see,” Stephens said. “But I think one of the schools he’s waiting to offer him is Georgia.”
Dacula’s Tatum headed for Houston
Dacula offensive lineman Ari Tatum’s first scholarship offer was the only one he needed.
After attending the University of Houston’s camp in June, Tatum verbally committed to coach Art Briles’ Cougars.
“I went to their camp, saw the facilities and thought that it would be a good place to be,” said Tatum, who is being recruited as a tight end, but will play offensive line for Dacula.
“They told me that I’d have the opportunity to play tight end as freshman, and then they’ll see how I grow into my body.”
Utilizing a high-protein diet filled with fish, chicken and vegetables, Tatum has packed on 30 pounds to his 6-foot-5 frame.
Before committing to Houston, Tatum had received interest from several SEC schools, including Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Kentucky. But no one besides Houston had extended an offer.
“Right, now I’m firmly committed to Houston,” Tatum said.
Troy offer for Calhoun’s Urbano
Calhoun running back Adam Urbano, who has an offer from Troy, plans to visit UAB later this month.
“I’m going to UAB on July 21 for a camp,” the 5-foot-9, 188-pound Urbano said. “And I may try to visit to Southern Florida.”
Urbano is also being recruited by Central Florida.

Neiko, I think you will love it at Tech. We have wonderful academics and our Tickle Piles are the best. Hope to see you at practice soon. I’m sure a tickle pile can be arranged so that you can see if you are so inclined.

I am a Wake grad living in Atlanta therefore supported Tech when we were not playing but this Tickle Pile thing is upsetting. I didn’t know anything about it and will not support a team school that condones such activity. The health issues alone are staggering. Until Tech officials stop these practices they will not recieve one more penny of my money. Tickle Piles!! My God!!!

Dawg fans, don’t we have anything better to talk about than a tickle pile at tech. It’s more than a bit old. New material please. Find a way to work in a protractor or something. C’mon folks, let’s just stick to owning their butt on the football field for the past umpteen eons.

Athlon’s senior editor is trying to sell magazines. Picking teams based on “easy schedules” is irresponsible.

The entire Tickle Pile controversy is overblown. This practice has never been mainstream at Tech. When I was there it was definitely a minority of students that participated and I don’t think there is much more participation these days.

As the president of the Baptist Student Union at the Georgia Institute of Tickle Research, I must promote abstinence over the tickle pile. The TP is a gateway activity that could lead to swapping sip or worse.

As a Tech grad, let me share a a fun tickle pile story.
I own my company, and am filthy rich. I of course have many fellow Tech grads who are similarly wealthy and successful, contributing members of society.
We like to pay UGA “graduates”, if you can call them that, money to engage in tickle piles for our amusement.
One of my friends enoys taunting them by saying “Bark for another dollar!” We laugh and laugh, but usually at least one of the UGA “grads” will do it, because they are poor, barely literate, and have trouble holding down jobs.
Our beautiful wives also enjoy watching these lowlife UGA “alums” do our bidding. Their pathetic desperation and jealousy is amusing.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my story. And, yes, UGA fan, I know you are strapped for cash too because of the worthlessness of your “degree”, so if you want in, that’s fine.
“Woof woof! Go dawgs!” Please….

Paul- You are not a Wake Grad! A Wake Grad knows that it is “receive” not “recieve”! It’s I before E except after C and 2 + 2 = 4 not 5. I guess they didn’t teach you that up there in Athens. Sign- Tech Fan!

Why do Tech Fans respond to these Tickle Pile posts. When we do it just delights the UGAY fans and perpetuates the story.

TechFan,
I'm a UGA College of Pharmacy graduate - and I'll stack up my Pharmacy degree with your Tech degree any day. I couldn't have gotten a better education anywhere. Oh, bythe way, I could have gone to Tech had I so chosen - I chose Georgia. Is this what they taught you at Tech…..stating that UGA graduates are “poor, barely literate, and have trouble holding down jobs” ? You deserve whatever criticism you get in this forum and others. Grow up.

Mr. TECH FAN- You are a real piece of work. WOW! You have MONEY! Congratualtions. Sadly, there are several things that money and a trophy wife that will more than likely leave your nerdy self can’t buy. Like a win in seven years against the DAWGS baby! PS, you just admitted that tickle piles give you great amusement and excitement. Further validation of the notorious North Avenue tickle pile. So enjoy the money and the tickle piles and us lowly DAWG fans will just enjoy the W’s!

Tickle Piles started in California Sororities during the sixties and spread eastward usually in girls schools. Tech is the only southern co-ed school where they caught on and became a tradition. Usually girls start tickling each other to the point of hysteria with other students piling on. Some pass out. At Tech the fad somehow started up in the Fraternity Houses and the guys started removing their clothes while doing it. Go figure!! Only at Tech!!

AS A GEORGIA TECH GRADUATE, I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT TICKLE PILES ARE WAY MORE FUN AND MASCULINE THAN ALL OF THESE GEORGIA FANS WOULD HAVE YOU BELIEVE.
THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH TICKLE PILES. I FOUND THAT OUT QUICK AS A FRESHMAN ON NORTH AVENUE.

Joe -
How can you argue and complain realistically about Tech grads and fans using stereotypes about ugag grads/students being stupid with easy degrees when you guys do EXACTLY THE SAME THING using stereotypes on us being nerds, etc.
On top of that, the idiotic ‘tickle pile’ BS has gotten ridiculous to say the least. It seems that the ugay fans cannot even use realistic stereotypes and so they make up this crazy concept out of thin air (but then again, they must have learned this somewhere….. hmmmmmm - at ugay maybe?).
Clean up your own house first and get some class (and I speak to all ugay fans)!!!

After hearing about Tech’s tickle piles, I ruled them out. But, when I visited UGA, I was very impressed with their suck piles. They occur at the end of every work out, so everyone is nice and slick. Since I was a visiting recruit, they invited me to join in and I loved it. Even Richt joined in! I can’t imagine another school topping that.

The problem(for tech fans) with the Tech stereotypes is that they are demonstrably true. In the 60’s and 70’s there were many regular guys at Tech. In the last 20 years however Tech men are nerds or from out of the USA. Sad but true. Tech Grad by the way!!

Joe, you’re being a boob. Your argument relies heavily on sweeping generalities and on the fallacy of dramatic instance… I know that some UGA grads are pharmacists. Even a blind squirrel is bound to find a nut every now and again. You have a job! Whoopdeedoo! Now let’s get back to spewing up crap about tickle piles! Since you all have evidently forgotten this, I’ll post it again: http://ugasports.net/media/photo/2004/fall/IDbig.JPG
Oh yeah! Baby oil and chains! Go Dawggs! Spank em! Spank em again! Now look back at the camera and say “Oh what a lovely tea party.” Perfect.

Me be a farmisist from ugay. I can count real good….. all the way up to 20, but then I have to start over. Mostly cause I run out of fingers and toes. Ugay bes a great place. I got great schoolin from there. Lots of parties and alcohol. We bes driving from one party to another. But cops stop us for DUI too much.
Tech bes bad. We hate Tech. Who do they think they are - getting an edumacation and all? Youse dont need no edumacation, just fellow ugay grads - for the tickle piles that we invented.
Go dawgs! Bowsie-wowsie!

Joe,
You are just another ugay poser pretending to be a Tech grad. When will you guys grow up?
I graduated in the 80s from Tech. Yes, there was a subset of ‘nerds’ that did look the part. And, yes, academics are tough at Tech so we did have to study. LOL - I guess at ugay the classes are so easy no one has to study? Do you guys just show up and get your grade? No wonder so many ugay grads are complete idiots and post on this board so much unimaginative stuff (a la tickle piles).
And yes, there is a subset of foreign students. GA Tech enjoys a worldwide reputation for excellence in education and draws great students from many places. Tech has always had a large diversity in its student population. This is unlike ugay where the population is documented to be made up of primarily white redneck trash.
And yes, the SAT average for Tech students is about 10% higher compared to ugay students. So yes, I guess using that as the measuring stick, we are smarter.
How about this…. you guys finally admit that Tech people are smarter, and we will admit that ugay people like football more than an education. It’s a win-win?

Problem is, the ugay grads I know are BOTH dumb AND gay. And, that’s the truth!!!
And really, if anyone feels like they can whip my a$$, I would be happy to give you a chance. I’m not a violent person, but I’m sure that my 5’10”, 220 pounds of muscle that I work out 2x per day can whip yours! And yes, I am a proud Tech graduate that is not ‘light in the loafers.’
Any takers? Post an email and I’ll send info to you where we can meet up. Otherwise STFU!
