Ten questions with … Jonathan Dwyer, Sidell Corley

Published on: 02/22/07 6:27 PM

We played 10 questions with Georgia Tech recruit Jonathan Dwyer (Marietta) and LSU-bound Sidell Corley (Mobile):

JONATHAN DWYER

1. As a college freshman, I plan to … Major in business marketing in real estate or business management — and hopefully earn playing time.

2. The craziest thing about the recruiting process was … Schools coming to my high school to talk to me. It was surprising to me and like a dream come true.

3. Since the recruiting madness ended, I’ve been … Concentrating on school and track and just enjoying my senior by spending time with my family, friends and my girlfriend Rian Ervin

4. My goals for the rest of my time in high school are … To just have fun and graduate with honors.

5. The one thing I’m most looking forward to when I arrive on campus is … The college environment, college football and fulfilling my dreams.

6. The schools that made the hardest push to try to get me to change my mind once I’d already committed were … Florida and UGA.

7. My plan for all the recruiting letters I received from college coaches is … To save them and show them to my kids in the future.

8. When it comes to academics in college, I’d hope to … Graduate with a Georgia Tech degree and major in busness marketing or management.

9. At Tech, I will wear the number … 12. I got this number my freshman year in high school and I’ve just felt in love with the number ever since. And it will be easier for my mom and family to find me on the field.

10. If you come to my dorm room a year from now, you’ll see … I want to keep my room neat and organized because when I am not organized everything is confusing. I want to room with Nick Claytor, Morgan Burnett, Roddy Jones and Steve Threet. In my room I’ll have pictures of my family and friends and my high school jersey, which is retired at Kell.

SIDELL CORLEY

1. As a college freshman, I plan to … Concentrate on my studies on the field as well in the classroom, making me No. 1 in the classroom and hopefully on the field.

2. The craziest thing about the recruiting process was … All the head coaches I see on TV coming to my school and home.

3. Since the recruiting madness ended, I’ve been … Happy, realistic and thankful for the chance to meet players and coaches all over the country.

4. My goals for the rest of my time in high school are … To practice more on my note-taking skills because in college it will help me be successful on the field and off the field

5. The one thing I’m most looking forward to when I arrive on campus is … The first date of class, then the first practice.

6. The school that made the hardest push to try to get me to change my mind once I’d already committed was … Alabama … Alabama … Alabama.

7. My plan for all the recruiting letters I received from college coaches is … Don’t know right now.

8. When I switched my commitment from Florida to LSU, it was … Hard to tell Coach [Charlie] Strong, who I really respect and was looking for him to coach me. I called Coach [Urban] Meyer after my offseason workout and told him that I feel that they were going in a different direction than me and wasn’t honest about something and thank you very much.

9. The quality I admire most about my next coach, Les Miles, is … Integrity — and way they recruited me from the start.

10. If you come to my dorm room a year from now, you’ll see … I’m a neat freak. I’ll have pictures of the most important people in my life — family, sports, God, etc.

GAMECOCKS LIFT GARCIA SUSPENSION

South Carolina quarterback recruit and AJC Super Southern 100 star Stephen Garcia was taken off suspension Thursday, just days after being barred from participating in team activities because he was arrested outside a bar near campus.

“After reviewing Stephen’s situation, it has been decided that he will be able to participate in all team activities, including running and weightlifting, beginning immediately,” Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said in a statement released by the university.

Spurrier had suspended Garcia on Monday.

Garcia, 19, was arrested early Saturday morning in a restaurant and nightclub district near the university and charged with drunkenness and failure to stop for a police officer.

A telephone message left Thursday evening for Garcia’s attorney was not immediately returned.

An officer responding to an altercation said Garcia ran away from him and tried to hide in an alley, then turned toward the officer “in a threatening manner,” according to an incident report.

Unless Garcia requests a jury trial, the arresting officer will act as the prosecutor and a police spokeswoman said the officer would not be available for comment. Garcia’s next court date is scheduled for March 7, said Lauren Leach, spokeswoman for the Columbia Police Department.

Garcia had been at a private party at a club when the incident occurred, according to the police report. He was released from jail on a personal recognizance bond Saturday evening.

The highly touted recruit out of Jefferson High in Tampa enrolled at South Carolina last month.

Last year, South Carolina’s starting quarterback Blake Mitchell (LaGrange) also was charged in an incident in the same area near the campus. He was accused of punching a bouncer — an assault charge that was later dropped — and spent a few hours in jail.

WHEELER’S BRITZUS CHECKS OUT COLUMBIA

It looks like Wheeler of Marietta will have with two players in the Ivy League next season.

Charles Bay, the all-Cobb defensive end, signed with Dartmouth the week after signing day, and now Ben Britzus, a center, is looking hard at Columbia, according to Wheeler coach Paul Lombardo.

The coach says Britzus is planning to visit the New York campus this weekend and could reach a deal after next week.

Bay had scholarship offers from William & Mary and Elon, ”but Dartmouth got him all the money, about $48,000 a year; they got him every penny [in academic and needs-based scholarship money],” Lombardo said. “He wanted to go there real bad.”

Two other unsigned Wheeler seniors could wind up in junior college. Defensive tackle Harris Everson and defensive back Trey Wolfe have offers from the College of Sequoias in Visalia and could sign next week, Lombardo said.

What do you plan to major in? I figered I’d just learn how to say “have a nice day” so I can quickly rise through the ranks at Burger King. Either that or try finger painting. I hear thats pretty hard at UGA

What was the craziest part about the whole recruiting progress? The way Caleb King came to sign his LOT. they brought him out to Athens in a short bus and he got lots of coloring books. We were all really jealous that he got so much attention

subpar basketball….sure halfway decent baseball….that’s about right UGA still OWNS Tech at football. And the fact that so many tech fans write on here every time an AJC writter or blogger even thinks of UGA tells me that football is what really binds your techie, skid-marked BVD’s. Write, blog , whine all you want b/c it’ll never change anything. UGA will still beat tech nearly EVERY year. You should be used to it by now. Now comeback with some lame, overused retort about how UGA’s alums flip burgers and UGA students are stupid or take lame, ridiculous classes. I’ve heard it all before. The same cycle over and over. I’m used to it. You should just be used to tech losing to UGA and get over it.

By Andrew

February 22, 2007 3:46 PM | Link to this

HA HA, Dude, you need to friggin relax. If I actually cared about football, I would be p**, but I’m not. I prefer to blast you out of the water in things that actually matter. You…you know…like a job. I’ll stop ripping UGA apart for all its misfaults everywhere else except football when UGA fans stop bashing tech because it has a pretty good football team, not a great one. Grow up man. Come at me with something a little more than that. Its pretty weak and old when all you guys do is hide behind your football team.

By Andrew

February 22, 2007 3:54 PM | Link to this

C’mon, at least defend your school, not your football team, friggin grow a pair and actually be proud of your school, defend why you think you won’t be flipping burgers in 4 years when UGA does nothing to help you get a job. Yeah, we lose every year in football, but if by some “miracle” we beat you in football, all you will do is revert back to all the times you beat Tech before. I’ve been through it before, you’re probably not even old enough to have heard this argument as much as I have. Losing to your rival humbles you. Always winning has turned UGA fans into an arrogant mass of morons who believe they are god’s gift to earth. Outside of football season I can’t imagine “its great to be a georgia bulldog.”

P.S. UGA sucks a huge black c**

LOL, once again, the fans of the school that’s currently on academic probation try to bring academics into it. And whose starting QB couldn’t even count to four and was finally kicked off the team for being academically ineligible. Notice the Dwyer kid mentioned “management” as his probable major(that’s the dumbed down curriculum that the athletes at Tech take to stay eligible, though apparently they need to dumb it down a bit more with all the academic scandals lately). Why don’t you come back on THAT Andrew?? And BTW Andrew, if you actually HAVE made any money with your engineering degree(though I doubt you even have one), your lawyer, banker, and boss probably all have UGA degrees. :) And you’re probably more likely to be served by Reggie Ball at Burger King than any ex UGA players, though they have more than 4 numbers on their value menu so that could be a problem for him…lol. But hey Andrew, I hope your supposed academic superiority kept you entertained on those weekend nights at Tech between D&D parties and fighting with the few english speaking students over the 5 marginally attractive women that go to Tech on any given year…lol.

Someone failed math at UGAg.

“As for Dwyer, You better be glad that UGA got Caleb King or Dwyer would be in Athens.”

Serious question though: didn’t Dwyer commit before King?

By Dave

February 22, 2007 9:06 PM | Link to this

Dwyer wasn’t worried about Caleb King. If he hadn’t have chosen GT, he’d be at FL anyway. Guys like that aren’t scared to compete. I wish the best for Caleb honestly. Hope he qualifies and has a great career, but for anyone to think Dwyer only came to GT because King’s in Athens is rediculous.

We’ll get the best RB in the state next year as well.

Dave who do you think is the best RB in the state is? Richard Samuel UGA commit made rivals All American team. King had a litte affect on Dwyer because we did not go after him as hard as King.

Hello Tech fans, yall seem real excited today so I’ll play your little game. 1. You suck a* at every sport. 2. When playboy did girls of the ACC you were the only school left out!!!!!!! 3. Reggie Ball was a super southern 100 qb. I’ll enjoy watching this years recruits fail. Either on the field or in the class room. 4.You call our players criminals, but didn’t you have an actual criminal playing on your team last year. 5. Who in their right mind would want to spend the best years of their life living in downtown atlanta? 6. Your season tickets double this year, because dawg fans need tickets to the November massacre. 7. Even Auburn is more popular in Georgia than your sh1t on the ground school.

Keep talking trash tech, we’ll just keep beating the crap out of you.

I love it. Tech fans talk about UGA folks hiding behind the football team? So you really think all of our other sports are inferior? Well Techies, maybe you haven’t been told that since 2001, UGA has a winning record against Tech in every single sport except for women’s volleyball. HMMMMMM….. Chew on that stat for a minute and let me know how it feels. Also, sure you can get a great engineering degree from Tech, but if you want to get a degree that’s worthwhile in any other field the only place to get one in this state is UGA. I’ll never have a boss that’s a tech grad because I’ll never work for an engineering firm, so your favorite little arguement turns out to not be so valid with just about everyone.

If “guys like that” weren’t afraid to compete they’d be in the SEC instead of that little girls league you guys call the ACC. We would love to have Tech back in the SEC though. Imagine the whining from the joke by the coke when the rest of the league wiped their feet on you sissies every Saturday!

Unbelievable! Nice to see Spurrier running a tight ship over at South Carolina. I guess evading the police and drinking underage are only worth a two day suspension. I expected at least for SCe to pull a Tennessee and suspend him for the offseason but allow him to be eligible for games in the fall.

Andrew, you are posting on an AJC SPORTS blog, not on the AJC JOBS blog so football does matter. dude. Eat Me, I make six figures with two degrees from THE Flagship institution of Georgia. Phildawg had it right when he said you go to tech for an Engineering degree. Anything else…. tech sucks. So the next time you encounter a UGA grad is teaching your kids, operating on your irritable bowel syndrome, or running the business world, think about it before you make such dumb comments.

By Andrew

b, I clearly believe you go to Georgia becuase only someone as unintelligent as you would actually vouch for your business credibility. It makes sense because you probably couldn’t even get into your own school right now. Maybe you should look up the fact that Tech has a better business school than UGA’s precious “Terry Business School.”

Interview with Tech fan JacketNation….

What makes you a Georgia Tech fan? Well as a kid I had my a* handed to me on the play ground by a bunch of guys wearing UGA hats.

Did you ever play any sports a Georgia Tech? TEE-HEE..I never went to Tech. I couldnt get in to anything other then Lanier Tech. And I could never play sports so I just come to the AJC Blog and pretend to be something I am really not. I like to pretend that my life is something more then surfing the net looking at porn sites while I handle my little Tech fan if you know what I mean…TEE-HEE. I call him buzz. I thought about calling him Calvin JOHNSON but my buddy told me that would be gay. He is on AJC blog to his name is Andrew. We have tickle fights before every big game.

Oh you mean every big Tech football game? No silly I mean every big game of D&D’s over at my house in my parents basement.

So what do you think makes Tech fans so passionate about Tech football? I mean aside from Calvin Johnson your program has done nothing since 1990. Well if you count the lose to Fresno State in the “We have offically run out of s** bowls to award s** teams with ” bowl?

Well I am not sure what makes the players so hyped up. I just see that flag boy run across the field and the old a* car going behind him and that gets me fired up.

So Jacket Nation do you have any girlfriends? Boy do I, I have three girls I talk to everynight on Yahoo. Sometimes its hard for me to not get Buzz excited. You know talking to a girl and all. And then I did meet this one girl who went to Georgia Tech and we talked one or two times but it turns out she had an adams apple. Andrew told me that was not a good sign. She also did not speak english.

SO have you ever been to a Georgia/Georgia Tech game?

Heck no I am scared. Those guys might hurt me like the do my team for every year.

Ok Jacket nation, final question. Why do you come on a blog and talk so much s** and even go as far as dog a 17 year old kid who is trying to get in to college and eventually play in the NFL?

Well honestly I am nothing more then a BIG A* P*** who is going to have Andrew’s black c** thrusted deep into my mouth multiple times. And I would never ever say anything to these’s people who post on this blog because it is much easier to hid behind a computer screen. I just a little b*** basically.

Red and Black needs to seek professional help. Maybe go talk to a pastor. Only a sick person like him posts sick filthy comments on this blog. The guilty DAWG barks. It’s you that looks at porn sites so that you can further pollute your filthy mind. You can handle un-obscene harmless humor about your team. Need I remind you that UGA offers degrees in things Livestock Management and you have an actual Hog farm on school property. I know, I am over there calling on clients and I do a trade show at the Classic Center every year. A few weeks ago I personally talked to Matthew Stafords cab driver, who told me she drives him back to his dorm drunk every weekend.

UGA is not about education; not if you are a football or basketball. It’s about parties, drunkards and stupidity. You’re all about being severally disturbed.

By Red and Black

Your the jackass. You think people care who’s name you throw out there? I mean if thats the case I asked Keith Brooking to sign my autograph with 6 years and a row followed with go Dawgs the other day and he said spell it.

You are calling making racists remarks about a 17 year old kid harmless humor? I mean seriously what were you trying to get over in your posts? The fact he was stupid or that he was black?

A tech fan saying anything about anyone else being distrubed….well thats simply disturbing. Go ahead make comments about us flipping burgers or Caleb King driving an escolade or being a door greeter at Wal-Mart what other kind of lame a* joke are you going to say? You joke about UGA with rednecks…..what school did Jeff Foxworthy attend?

So you think that if Caleb King had decided he wanted to go to Georgia Tech that they would have turned him down for academic reasons? C’mon, you guys count Reggie Ball as an alum.
And yes, Tech is a good engineering school. Isn’t that about the only thing your school has going for it? I don’t wanna be an engineer. As far as any academic area other than mathematics and engineering is concerned, Tech isn’t even the best school in Atlanta.
And also, lets be honest, the girls are ugly and the guys are even uglier.
As far as football is concerned (and since this is a football article, this is all we should be concerned about) it’s hard to imagine that you could consider yourselves in the same level as UGA. Georgia has owned you the past six years. You had your best year this year, and by UGA standards you had a terrible year. You play in a much weaker league and benefited from a weak FSU and Miami. Next year you won’t have that going for you. let’s not forget that you lost to Wake Forest. And for the record,in my hometown, I know many lawyers, doctors, civic leaders, etc…, who are UGA grads. All highly paid professionals. I include in that list my father, who is a CFO of a very succesful company. As far as the few GT grads I know (the ones I went to high school with) two of them are too drugged up to do anything with their fancy degrees, and the other lives in his mothers basement playing World of Warcraft and watching the Sci-Fi channel.

I was very impressed by the losses to powerhouses Like Vanderbuilt and Kentucky. We are so thankful that Reggie Ball is gone. That’s the only thing you have to claim how dominant you were over Tech. I think you won all of his four years by a about 3 points or so? Now we have Taylor and two other freshman that are hosses! With Tashard Choice returning and Dwyer coming in. We are ready to beat UGA. We beat you in basketball. We will beat you in baseball and now we will beat you in the big game this fall. Oh, and Reggie Ball is washing cars at a detail shop.
