Bailey eliminates Bulldogs; Florida lands another
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/25/07 11:20 PM
Latest news
Bad news, Georgia fans: The Allen Bailey sweepstakes is down to three … and the Bulldogs aren’t in the running.
The mother of the Darien McIntosh County Academy star told the AJC’s Carter Strickland that Bailey has settled on three finalists: Alabama, Florida and Miami.
You’ll find more on that story, with updates throughout the day, in our “latest news” section to the right, along with plenty of other updates throughout the day. Including …
— Florida and Urban Meyer hauling in another prized recruit, this one a defensive end who had been committed to Notre Dame.
— Q&As with a few top Southern prospects, including South Carolina-bound quarterback Stephen Garcia.
— News on one-time Miami linebacker Willie Williams, who has resurfaced at Louisville.
— A update on Mobile, Ala., safety Michael McNeil, who tells our Jeff Hood he’s down to Auburn, Florida State and Tennessee, but still wants to hear new Alabama coach Nick Saban’s pitch. He’ll visit Tuscaloosa today.
— The latest on Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., linebacker Josh Bynes, who’s still thinking about Auburn, Iowa, Louisville and South Carolina.
As always, if you have someone whose recruitment you’d like updated, drop me a line.

Is Brantley’s comment, about the Dawg Walk at UGA as the funniest experience during his recruiting, an insult? If so, he is a perfect fit for UF. He hasn’t even taken a snap in practice and already he has the cockiness and general smarminess that I expect from UF players and coaches.

The Dawg Walk is just a ripoff tradition from other schools that have done it far longer then uga…auburn and tennessee to name a couple. Why make up something new when we can copy from other schools…just like our fightsong and mascot?

Hey Jay, I didn’t know that Auburn & Tennessee invented walking and/or had a patent on it. Who said we were ripping it off from them. Accroding to my granfather, UGA use to do the Dawgwalk years ago and they stopped doing it and then CMR brought it back. On the mascot thing, at least we know what are name is and what it represents. Auburn = tigers/war eagle/ plainsman. Volunteers represented by a hound dog. What’s up with that?

Actually Alan, Auburn does have a nickname. They are the tigers, they were previously the plainsmen during their early years but have since been changed long ago. As for war eagle, it is a battle cry stemming from a post cival war game in which the TIGERS fought from behind to beat your bulldogs at which time a war eagle circled the field. You have never heard auburn refered to as the war eagles! In any case, you may want to keep this in mind before continuing to use this as your comeback argument. Is Georgia the Dogs or the Dawgs…what is a dawg anyway?

Across the fruited plain, you’ll find Badgers,Beavers,Gophers,Horned Owls,Green Wave(?),Cornhuskers,Aggies,Demon Deacons,Mudcats,Bulldogs,Bulldawg(?) and Lord only knows what else. So if Auburn has trouble hammering down a mascot, what the heck? Besides, the ‘WALK’ was really begun at Alcatraz when the Fightin’ Criminole was led to battle ol’Sparky in the day of justice served.

Let’s say I even refer to myself as a “Gaytor”—Now, would someone PLEASE explain how a coach at a Traditional Power can go 1-6 against his arch rival and NOBODY associated with the team that has ACCUMULATED???? the ONE win in 7 YEARS!!!! utters nary a word.
Now I have heard of teflon, but I will reiterate, if the coach at Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, FSU, Michigan, Ohio State goes 1-6 against his biggest rival——He Is In Trouble.
Now I know the Reverand Richt is a man of high moral principles and great integrity, but(BIG BUT) if he goes 0-3 against Florida next 3 years—Hypothetically Of Course(But Not Too)and is thus 1-9, at that point do people begin to look at that with a jaundiced eye or is it still only about the AJC recruiting standings??

Louis, CMR is 1-5 against UF. Get your facts straight before you spout off. Who says UF is UGA’s “biggest rival”???? Its all according to where you live. NW GA = TN Metro GA = GT , west GA = AU South GA = FLA. How did Mac Brown do against OU before last year??
By NYCDAWG
January 25, 2007 2:27 PM | Link to this
How many times did Mack Brown at Texas lose to Oklahoma? How many times now has Lloyd Carr at Michigan lose to Ohio State? How many times did Bobby Bowden lose to Miami?
I don’t know if they were 1-6 at any point but I know that at one point all of them had a bad losing streak to their rival and all three are still employed. I’m not defending Richt’s record against Florida. Personally, I think that a season without a national or a conference championship for UGA is a failure unless they beat Florida. Because UGA has shown that they can beat anyone else. But for now Richt is the best choice for UGA. Despite having a horrible record against UF he has led UGA to the highest winning percentage in the conference over the past five years and has two sec titles in the last five years.

Baily wants to be a LB, and UGA was recruiting him as a DE. He will end up as a DE anyways because he is too slow to play LB. The three schools still in consideration are recruiting him as a LB, or at least telling him what he wants to hear.

Wanted Bailey at UGA, but he seems to be stuck on playing LB and it seems that only UGA is being honest and telling him his future is at DE. Anybody care to wager he plays with his hand on the ground before long?

Allen Bailey is making the mistake Georgian Herschel Walker came close to making when he almost chose Clemson. If he were successful at Georgia as a son of the state from the outpost of Sapelo Island, Bailey would flat own the hearts and minds of Georgians - like Herschel still does today - from Rock City on Lookout Mountain to the Okefenokee for the rest of his life and, in the process, yield glory to ALL the Bailey clan sitting out there on a speck of our treasured soil.

As a Tennessee fan I certainly hope that Bailey doesn’t go to Fla. or Bammy. That being said, if he didn’t go to UGA because he doesn’t want to play D line then good riddance. When was the last time UGA didn’t put a D lineman in the NFL.
Also has anyone seen Bailey and Humpty in the same room.

Bailey is 270lbs! For crying out loud! Who in their own right mind would think that they would make it as LB with 4.8 - 4.9 40? Muchless, believe anyone that would say any different. He, and everyone advising him, has to know that he will never be a succesfull LB. A 270lbs LB with a 4.8 - 4.9 40 couldn’t run down a doughnut rolling uphill muchless a 5’9” scatback with SEC sub 4.4 40 speed. Not to mention, what happens when he is asked to man up on a slot reciever or TE? Even the big ones can run 4.5’s and 4.6’s. COME ON MAN!
Either way, anyone that is dumb enough to believe that he will be a LB at the next level is waaaaaaay too ignorant to play wearing silver britches…. good ridance …. IDIOT!

UGA fans are the most hypocritical people on the planet. They sit on these blogs and talk s* to Flordia people then turn around and tell people from Tech that they have no right to talk because they are currently on a losing streak against them. I guarantee you that Gator fans think of LSU or Tennessee as a bigger rival than UGA due to the fact that they have owned them over the past 15 years. Deal with the fact that no matter how high you build UGA’s program up in your little dumb minds, they are never going to be a national powerhouse and compete for National Championships. Top 10 finishes are only good in NASCAR, not in college football. So why don’t all of you UGA fans who think that your crappy team is the best thing since sliced bread go back outside your double wide, hop back on your tractor, and quit nailing your sisters, then maybe we can have intellegent posts on this and other AJC blogs. It looks like the latest NC in the state of Georgia will remain at the “trade school” for as long as you are alive, which hopefully for the world won’t be very long.

Bill, good post. Bailey is either arrogant &/or delusional. There’s no way his 4.8+ 40 time will cut it at OLB at an SEC front-runner program. There’s D-Tackles that have that speed. It looks like the Dawgs may finish outside the top 10 in recruiting for the first time in a few years. I hope we can land Cameron Heyward. Either way, these JUCO signees have to step it up next season!

As a Gator fan, it offends me to be thought of as a rivalry game for UGA. You’ve won twice in 16 years. We have a much better rivalry with FSU, UT AND LSU. Win some games, and then it will be a rivalry. At this point, seeing UGA on our schedule is similar to seeing Vanderbilt. WE OWN YOU.

Greg- i agree we have lost a few good homegrown recruits this year but most of them, (Berry & Bailey) were at posistions that we are stacked at. Neither of them would have had a chance to start for atleast a year maybe even two, no matter how good they were. One of the reasons we (UGA) have had lower recruiting ranking then we are accustom too in recent years is due to us recruiting to our “needs.” We have 8 maybe 9 O-linemen verbaled or committed allready and it is extremly difficult to get 9 5 star players at the same posistion to come to your school in the same year. From my perspective, we have addressed many of our needs almost perfectly. I know that some of our 3 star OL will be waaaaay more utilized then some other teams 4 star WR’s
For example, FLA has FOUR WR’s, FIVE DB’s, and THREE QB’s verbaled……. What in the heck is any team going to do with THREE QB’s?

We(UGA) still hold the overall record in the series (46-37-2) and 1974-1989, the Gaytords had 3 wins in this time period. Yeah Tebow is such an awful passer that he set the STATE of FLORIDA record for career passing yards. Besides with how stacked UF is at Wide reciever Michael Vick’s mom could lead UF to an SEC crown. Percy Harvin alone is better than any player UGA has ever had not named Herchel. Want to talk tradition, UF owns more National Titles than UGA 2-1. Go ahead and tell me you won it in 42’ but if were counting titles awarded by independant news organizations then we can count UF’s 1984 NY Times title and we will still have more.
Please dog fans keep bringing up jean shorts because if you have ever been to any city outside metro Atlanta you will know there are just as many Jean SHort wearing UGA fans as you will see UF fans wearing them. At least UF fans can get NATIONAL CHAMPIONS screen printed on their Jean Shorts just like that stereotype would love to do;)
UF owns the series record vs. you mutts since the late 40’s and I doubt more than 1 person reading this was even born then. So why are you bragging about stuff your great grandfathers have done? Are you that insecure because UF owns you that bad. We own you so bad that even our Gymnastics have taken over the #1 ranking in the only sport you consistently are good at. UF has played for the National Title 3 times in the last 11 years and won twice. When was the last time you were even in contention to play for it in late November. GAYtor fans, If you think Georgia is not your biggest rival, why do you take an open day before playing Georgia? I guarantee to you if you play Georgia in Atlanta and Georgia has an open day, you will absolutely have your a* kicked very time. Now, Tennessee is taking an open day before playing GA because they know for sure the road to SEC is through Athens. Georgia has learned a lesson this past season. Georgia is definitely the best team next season, for all your Florida fans every mountain is followed by a valley so don’t dream of any national or SEC championship any time soon. Good luck with Meyers, I still think he is an average coach and Florida should give the credit to C. strong. A couple of the comments on the board about South Georgia and the overall lack of Georgia commitments. North Georgia (Atlanta) only shows attention when they think they need something … when we need you we will call. The Georgia coaching staff sees their program as “national” … starts at the top (Adams) … they snuff the programs down here … and really statewide. They truly believe the grass is greener somewhere else. This arrogance is and will hurt in the longer term. Georgia has lost the “state university” feel.

I for one don’t consider UF our biggest rival. It depends on where you live. I consider our biggest rival Auburn…for the simple fact that it is the oldest game in the SEC. I also consider Tech right near that for the simple fact that we are in the same state. It is easy and safe to say that UF has our number…numbers don’t lie at all. I seriously doubt that seeing us on your schedule is the same as seeing Vandy. Ummmm yes you have beat us 14 out of 16…but we only lost this year by TD…and that was no face mask on 3rd down. I’m not here to cry..we lost. We have a great football program and if you remember last year you guys finished the year by beating 3 good teams to finish out the season. Our team is not crappy at all. We have done the same this year, and I for one think next year will be great for us. We do not have a crappy team. you hae a crappy name…thank Mr.and Mrs. Wang for that one. Now MR. We do not have a crappy team. you hae a crappy name…thank Mr.and Mrs. Wang for that one. Now MR. WANG…if in fact that is your real name….I don’t live in a double wide…don’t own a tractor…have a sister but have never humped her…plan on living for a while. You on the other hand obviously are in a need to come clean to your parents about your preference in love. Wang is no real mans name….that is a name that has been bestowed upon you by your life partner. Have a good sir…or mam.

I can’t believe all the grown up people who get all lathered up over these 18 year old kids. Get a freakin life and find something to do like maybe having sex with a girl. I’m a big UGA fan and sure I might glance at the final recruiting rankings but these fans that hang on ever word some immature 18 year old says just kills me. And guess what? A lot of these kids everybody got all bent out of shape about end up just average or you hardly here from them again. Only a handful end up like calvin johnson from GT and that is the truth. These constant updates on what recruits are eating, their mood, who their leaning towards, what their favorite color is. Give me a break! It has gotten so bad that congress recently had a congressional hearing on the lunacy of college football recruiting. Why not just wait until signing day and check in to see how your team did? Theres’s not a damn thing you can do about it anyway so just sit back and relax and find something more constructive to spend your time on.

Trying to be impartial here as a SEC west fan. Sorry to say but UGA had a down year. This year should be better as Stafford grows and learns but you guys are dreaming to be thinking of a National Championship this year. The Gators had a good year and will be the team to beat in the East, with the Vols, Dawgs, and Cocks close behind. SC will only get better with Spurrier at the helm. Give him another few years and I think SC will make some waves in the East.
In the West, LSU and Auburn will once again duke it out for the West. LSU’s schedule favors them this year and they are loaded with talent. Satan will have Bama up and running next year and the Tide will be a player in the West again. Hogs are a mess and a one hit-wonder.

“WHY ARE THE GEORGIA KIDS SHAFTING US THIS YEAR?….WHY THE SUDDEN DECLINE IN RECRUITING THIS YEAR….SOMETHING SMELLS REAL BAD OUT OF ATHENS!”
Because Georgia already has it’s starters lined up for next 2-3 year due to the previous years’ recruiting classes. These 2007 recruits want to start immediately so they choose to go elsewhere. This includes Allen Bailey who thinks his 270 lb frame is fast enough to close the middle of the field as a linebacker. I bet in 2008/2009, we’ll see Georgia in the top five recruiting class b/c some Georgia players will near graduation. Lock and load every year.

I read this Blog from time to time to update what is going on in the world of recruiting and to get my laughs for the day. As a former UGA athlete, I assure you that my blood runs red and black. I have no love for gators, gamecocks, tigers of any sort, Vols or especially bees, but please people have a little respect and quit acting as though all of these schools are the arm pit of the world. All of these Universities are great institutions of higher learning and have so much to offer. It may be that one has more to offer to one person rather than another. I am sure that if you attended any of these Universities you have met and worked with people that attended the other Universities, and that you have admired those people and may even call some of them friend or even family, so gey over it and admit that all schools have good qualities. As for recruiting, it is time to act our age and realize what we are talking about in the grand scheme of things. I too would like to win every game that my dogs suit up for and I would like to get every great athlete out there to come to UGA. But not everyone is interested in playing for UGA for whatever reason. So be it. Not all of these kids are mature enough to realize what they want out of life or what is best for them. They are caught up in the hype and the glory coming there way. Soon they will realize that they are one of many that will have to perform if they are to play. They will find the true difference between being the star in high school and even making the playing field in college. So lets not anoint them as saviors of the program yet. Some of these kids want to dictate what position they will play or whether they will start. Those decisions are why we pay coaching staffs. I a kid thinks he is all that and does not like your school because he feels he is not getting enough love, then you do not want him or need him. Give me the kids that want to play for my school because they love it and want to be a part of the team wherever they fit in. I assure you that chemistry will equate winning on the field and in the classroom and in life.

Please tell me where Urban Meyer has been a head coach and been average? Nice try dipstick but Urban Meyer is a far better coach than CMR. He’s PROVED it. Also when has CMR gotten to the SEC Title game without having to rely on another team to beat UF to get him there? NEVER, now thats an average coach.
If there’s a Valley after every mountain then UGA must have hit the bottom of the Grand Canyon since your last National Title. I doubt reddawg wasnt even out of diapers in 1982.

Listen Mr. Gaytor fan, first of all CMR won the SEC on 2002 without the need of any team to beat any other, second he won that year 13 games, exactly as Florida, but GA wasn’t that lucky as the Gaytors, since two teams were unbeaten at that year UM and OSU. and you are talking about GA relying on other teams How about The Gaytors this year when you were relying on UCLA to beat USC, otherwise you would never dream to go to NC game, and beside don’t get hyped up about beating OSU, history proved OSU cant beat SEC teams, probably Kentucky would have given you a better challenge. Meyers is really an average coach, look at your offense very average, once the SEC teams get used to your gimmicks, and then you will realize how bad you are. I really can see your a* kicked next season.

I am not ready to say this is CMR’s best class…last year was to me and it is hard to beat ‘01 with guys like O’hell,TD,Pollack,Gibson and Geathers tearing it up in the NFL. Here are some of the reasons for this negativity……
1.Losing EB and not getting that HR hitter! Troupe is a very good player and Hill is a superstar one day. However, the one place we have not done as good a job as we’d have liked is at WR in recruiting(OT being the other). Since getting Gibson that first year we’ve lost two or three(two who committed to us) from SC who all went on to very good to great careers in collage and NFL. We’ve lost Calvin Johnson,Kenny O’neal(the first time, he called us and we didn’t give him the time of day) the Chad Jackson,Swains,Hawthornes…..we were #2 for everyone I just mentioned. EB would not have played Corner for us, he’d have played the slot ala Harvin…….yes his father being a Vowel was just bad luck but it still hurts, especially with Uncle B being in his life more then his father most of it. Wish him the best of luck though for he and his family are all class acts. The WR biotching will cease when we sign AJ Everything and TK…the #1 and no worse then #5 WR’s in the country. Then we’ll really fly.
2.Caleb got hurt…..so his ranking slipped. People seem to forget things quickly…never mind after he got hurt. Socal….who seems to know a bit about Talent and RB’s said to him he was their #1 target. Personally, getting Caleb”The Man who would be’King to go with Moreno will go down if they stay healthy as the best Dynamic duo ever at UGA….better then Hearst and Davis in ‘92 and Worley/Hampton in ‘88!
3.As awesome as we did on the OL(and it is honestly the best OL class I’d ever seen at UGA and top 3 ever in SEC) many see us losing the big preseason 5 star(even though he is fat,out of shape,a OG and got his ship pulled from F$U for a reason) Chris Little as typical. They see Greenlee still entertaining St.Bobby and think the worst. They see us losing Franklin to Miami and say we can’t close. They seem to forget while raw VV is a 6.7 315 lb Brandon Miller, he has AA and 1st round potential, this is a guy who a year ago per Wynn from his uncle didn’t know what a 3 point stance was! Greenlee is the best OT prospect in Georgia since Foster in ‘98 and all he did was go #15 overall and been a couple year starter in Denver or Baby Stinch a 1st team AA and starter for the Saints. They forget that their isn’t/wasn’t a better OG in America last year or this in Bean Anderson, really the only OL I saw better was Smith at Bama period…I think he was more dominant then Young at ND! He’ll be as good imo as MJG! They see Strickland drop, but seem to forget that we offered before his .Jr year we don’t do that often and the kid is so athletic he plays FB….last linemen we had do that in HS ended up pretty good, his name I think was Pollack! They seem to forget T.S. has been injured but he was ND and the Greatest Coach/Recruiter ever Urban Meyers #1 OT…that is what Urban told him(even if he was lying they did go all out for him as did ND) and he is over 6.5 1/2 now a full inch froma year ago…only 17….will rehab his injury which ain’t bad and be able to train his upper body in the mean time….go through Spring and be ready to contribute. They also forget what a super sleeper Boling is. His is so awesome athletically schools like Ohio ST. and Michigan have inquired about him recently, never mind the AU’s or SC’s! We’re talking a kid who was 6.3 235 a little over 16 months ago and is now 6.5 1/2 273 lbs and hasn’t lost any quickness. He could be the next Adam Meadows imo. The other Juco is a upgrade they say from Mike Turner who did a great job when healthy this past fall…he is even more athletic then we thought, can play OT or OG…is in school and will play allot if he doesn’t start this fall….F$U wanted him badly…….so how bad can he be. Add to the fact that we have per Herbstreit(SP?) the best OL coach in the country….and without question the best S&C coach and program….that it is going to be awesome watching these war daddy’s roll the opposition and finally giving our top RB’s and the best QB talent in CFB the time to do whatever CMR and Bobo can think of and create!
4.Tech-Tech to their credit have done a great job….but their class still couldn’t hold ours jock. I mean does anyone in the country really think Nesbit is their QB of the future? He got exactly 0 Div-1A offers after the Nike camp as a QB! Great ath, great kid but couldn’t hold Logan’s jock as a QB…..but boy he’d be a hell of a S! Same thing with DJ Donley…lol…..he has about as much future at WR as Brandon Miller does/did. Both these boys were sold a load of goods by that snakeoil salesmen(a hell of one) Giff Smith(who says his dream is to be at UGA as a AST and then the HC at GA Southern, I have peeps in Marietta that are friends with him). Morgan is just weird…..I don’t know what to say but good luck kid……..I hope for your sake Tanuta stays their because then you’d be a good S under him…if not……well you made ur own bed. Claytor?!? LOL don’t get me started but that is the single most overated player, forget OL….since I’ve been following recruiting. The guy couldn’t pass block a speed rush from Cheese! I’m sure he is a nice kid but their is no way he can play OT at UGA…I’d rather stick Seth Watts out their then Claytor! Tech got the 1/10 million again in this kid from PA….a top player who wants to be an ENG……and Giff Smith as his pos coach then it makes sense. Lastly they got Dwyer, I hate this one both because he comes from such a great family and he is a hell of a player! That said….9/10 Coaches would take a healthy Caleb(and he will be Caleb didn’t hurt a knee so his gamebreaking speed will be back by no later then May/June) over Dwyer. Tech just got lucky that their were two top 5 backs nationally instate this year is all! Here they got a hell of a player but so did we! So while Tech had the best class on papoer in their history, it still isn’t better then ours…..and after we (God willing) get Cam and Bailey it won’t be that close!
5.Some people are never happy! We are going to get imo the 5 best players in GA(TK,Samuel,Harmon,Jackson,Tyson) before Kickoff with OK ST. We’ve made inroads with the only legit guy of cracking that top 5(not named Washington who is so freakish its scary) the DT from Buford is no longer AU’s to lose and will camp with us I’m pretty sure. We lead for the #1 TE in the country in Moore….already got the #1 WR and player in AJ,Tyson a #1 DT and possible DEF player, athe top DEF player from J-Ville Grant is ours to lose, the top OT from Ohio and the Midwest is said to be leaning to us and Miami(his momma being alumni sure doesn’t hurt)…..’08 looks to be the best class on paper since ‘98 when we signed either the #1 or #2 class(and the backbone of the 13-1 ‘02 team….Boss,Gilbert,STinch,Foster,Spoon,Terrance amongst others)…after we win 10 games…STafford makes all the national headlines etc……this next class will cement all we need to win it all in either ‘08 or ‘09! Dawg Dynasty is here, started down on the Plains and it ain’t stopping any time soon! DAWGS OR DIE!!!

RedDawg you must be smoking the same stuff as Vick. Meyer just won the National Championship. Not the SEC like Dawg fans talk about all the time and go crazy over winning over. The National Championship in his 2nd year. That is elite status. Gimmick offense? Ask Jim Tressel if it is a gimmick offense? CMR sure has done lousy against UF. Kudos to Bailey for saying he didn’t fit in at UGA. Can you blame him? A bunch of rednecks with southern drawls. No wonder UF stole Cam Newton and who knows maybe Bailey.

Goodawg, I think the guy was referring to “owning you” the last 15 years when modern day football came into existence with a guy named Steve Spurrier at the helm of the Florida Gators. Yes, you won most of the games in the early years when Georgia was a “big time” program and Florida was still trying to decide what football was. Georgia’s overall tradition of excellence is better than Florida’s, for sure, but that has certainly been reversed during the last 15 years. If you want to continue to live in the past, fine, but recent history will tell you that the Gators have dominated the Dogs on the football field, the basketball court, the pool, the golf course and just about everywhere else except the parallel bars.

Yep, the Gators are lucky. No doubt about it. Lucky to out hit, out smart, and out hustle LSU (similar to what Auburn did to Florida this year). Lucky to beat Georgia almost every year they play team…including kicking their backyard butts, what 51-0, in Athens a few years ago (so playing you in Atlanta will be even less than a challenge!). Lucky to have a 6’7” DE that could jump to the moon and block kicks that mattered (no talent in that aspect of the game…just luck). Lucky to come back and kick Arkansas’ butt in the SEC title game…after dominating them for most of the game. Lucky to win the NC by 27 points over what was thought to be one of the best teams in college football history…at the time. Too bad Georgia is not so lucky, or they could have beaten Vanderbilt and Kentucky this year. Maybe they will be lucky next year and upset one of them. Rots of Ruck to you in the future, you Harry Dawgs…and get a rabbit’s foot…it couldn’t hurt!

I am not sure when the last time you visited Tampa. It is no redneck town. Culture and progress everywhere…just like Atlanta (although not as big). The only problem Florida has is that everyone else wants to come live here, and that includes “rednecks” from everywhere else. I have lived in both cities. You can find ignorant people anywhere…I lived in Chicago, too, and the “rednecks” are just called uneducated there. Hate and stupidity can be found anywhere. So can libraries, books, and other means to develop your intelligence. Try one out, you might discover that learning will help you open your mind and your thought processes.

Yeah try going a bit south of central florida and maybe go to either Palm Beach County, Dade County, or Broward County. Nicer beaches, and I don’t think you will see many rednecks. There is a reason so many Georgians go to the Panhandle. It is close, cheap, and has people with similiar backgrounds. Great to see UGA fans trying to get off the recruiting topic, since UF is #1 in that as well.

Georgia and Auburn have always had a great, respectful rivalry. Every game has been memorable and the interaction between the fans is what makes it great. Dawg walk, Tiger Walk - who cares. Both schools have plenty of traditions to be proud of, and no obnoxious fans like what Alabama is saddled with. Even Saban may be challenged to polish up that snakepit.

Jeff,
Can you check to see what is the status of the Starr Mill’s QB, Davis? Last I heard, he was going to go to Navy. It seems that this would be a pretty good match for him with the type of offense that Navy runs so well. What are they feeding those boys down in Fayette County… a lot of these players from down south of Atlanta are getting some pretty good looks these days.
Thanks…

I didn’t realize what a convoluted process recruiting has become till I started following it day to day on my computer. This is the first year I’ve more or less checked it out daily. This Baily kid, who knows if he can read or wright and how many care? One recruit announced resently a date for his commitment and he said he was holding a press conference, (and then the whole world will know his decision and everybody just has to wait on pins and needles). Now that’s a grounded kid.So whichever school wins the great honor of serving this singular gift to mortal man then has this thing we all helped create to try to make a useful citizen of maybe even without crushing the kid behind the monster.GO DAWGS

Bailey is making a very BAD decision. He is a student in my neighboring county, and his teachers and coaches should have guided him better. Yes, he will, in the end, do what his “new” coach wants him to do, and it will probably not be playing the position he thought he was going to play when he signed with either FL, Miami, or Alabama. I honestly thought someone from our SE GA Coastal region would find allegiance to a Georgia university. I am so sorry for him and what “could have been.”

Against Ron Zook:

Talking about the “walk”…we (UGA) happens to be the oldest college in the nation.
I quote, “When the University of Georgia was incorporated by an act of the General Assembly on January 27, 1785, Georgia became the first state to charter a state-supported university”
So we can end the who was first argument right there. UGA was the first on ALL accounts.

hope everything’s going well with you, Ron Zook’s not nearly as bad a coach as you make him out to be. Great recruiter, just not a good fan’s coach or couldn’t buddy up with the alumni. Building a pretty good program at Illinois. Pretty good recruiting class coming in for 07 also. Think he fits in better at Illinois than at FLA. I agree with you on the underpaid public teaching, my thanks go out to anyone who can teach in todays world, i also remember what kind of student i was, wouldn’t want any teacher to have to go through that again!!! Speaking of teaching on this “recruiting blog” Question for you Louis. Have you ever heard of a recruit changing schools because of academic reasons? By that i mean, a player saying “I’m not going to play at UGA I’m going to play at FLA because the biology professor i wanted at UGA retired so i’m going to Fla to play and take biology” think that’s ever happened?

Are you kidding about any other Gator players than E. Smith in the pros? Really. The list is about a mile long…to name a few all pros and hall of fame players…Smith, Youngblood, Kearse, Collingsworth, Hilliard, James Jones, Glenn Cameron, Jeff Mitchell, Litto Sheppard, Alex Brown, and the list goes on and on. It that naming more than one…and the Gators have players playing throughout the league this year. And so does Georgia. Come on! I think Mark Richt has put players in the pros year after year just like Florida has. I don’t think one outdoes the other in that area…just on the college football field do we see a difference!

“As for war eagle, it is a battle cry stemming from a post cival war game in which the TIGERS fought from behind to beat your bulldogs at which time a war eagle circled the field.”
A post-civil war game?? The first Georgia-Auburn game was 1892, which was very post-civil war. The real myth is that there was a confederate soldier found after a battle wounded, with an eagle next to him. He and the eagle recovered and he went on to teach at Auburn. During the first Georgia-Auburn game, it is said that every time Auburn scored, the eagle would take to flight and circle the field. Seeing its flight the crowd roared “War Eagle!”
Now considering the date of the game, that would have been a very old eagle - not unheard of, but unusual.

“(UGA) happens to be the oldest college in the nation.”
Incorrect: The University of Georgia is the oldest land grant university in the nation, but it is not the oldest college in the country. Unfortunately, I believe that title falls upon Harvard University (I grew up thinking that it was The College of William and Mary).

I’ve always pumped UGA red blood, and always will. But I just don’t sense the same kind of spirit of late.Maybe it’s me but one example is Joe Tereshinski being booed on the field and slamed on these postings.I know he wasn’t a great qb but he is UGA to the bone.So I think what it boils down to for me is what are we cheering for? I was glad to see Butler get a ride ,Richt came to UGA proclaiming he was going to build on school tradition and I think that attitude had alot to do with in state success,it just seems to me we could find ourselves in the words of Jerry Seinfeld cheering for laundry.

Sautee, High school seniors worrying about professors usually are considering Emory, Williams, RPI, Cal Poly or the like.
Only schools in SEC that I consider to be abject disgraces are Tennessee, Miss. State. Have doubts about two others—not in Georgia—but I can’t prove it by referencing major periodicals in America. Tenn. and Miss St, I definitely can cite reputable sources. Does not hold for Social Work majors at U Cheat.

Sautee, What do you personally think of Larry Munson. I dislike Mick Hubert’s hysterical screaming, so you can imagine what I think of Munson. Although if Hubert is still going at 80, I’m sure he will be more embarrassing than Munson.
You were right should never have mentioned the guy’s puppy. I actually love dogs and have a Welsh Corgi.
Did think going online and threatening me with being tracked down by a vigilante relative was a little incriminating for the guy and especially when you consider the safeguards of preserving e-mail addresses by AJC. Did recall the Phi Beta Kappa who threatened violence against former girl friend by leaving message on her cell phone.
But it is a strange world my friend. Pay my first visit to Auburn for a basketball game this Saturday.
Just realized Florida is 44-3 in football and basketball dating back to last March. 13-1 football. 18-2 basketball this year. 6 Wins in NCAA Tournament, 3 wins in SEC Tournament and 4 game winning streak to close out 05-06 regular season. Well, their baseball team stinks—Ping!! Ping!!

Great game and I’m glad of the outcome because the SEC may not see it again during the BCS reign. They were lucky to make it this year. I find UF blogger’s cockiness humorous. Just happened to run across this blog but let me say this, alumni of Florida State University are well aware of the mindless drivel spouted by the uf lizards. We apologize to the football world for losing to these idiots by seven points and subjecting you to all this. We were at our lowest point when even the fans could guess the play to be run 90% of the time. This has been fixed. We now have (I apologize LSU fans) Jimbo Fisher, the best oc in America bar none. We intend to atone for this year. We are going to the “swamp” next year and hell is coming with us. Florida is having a good recruiting year and we are filling the few spots needed. Acutally we do not need anyone else, we could handle them with a pat hand. We all understand the uf is in their own words “the greatest” “they rule” and “everyone else sucks.” We shall see. I would like to say good luck to Georgia, and LSU and the other teams here. If you cannot totally destroy them, bust them up a bit and we will finish the job. That is a promise. In 2007 Florida will be brought back into the space time continuum.

Dino- I could not help but notice the personal nature of your UGA spew. Have you considered counseling? Did you not see the irony of your post referring to Dawg fans living in the past and that you were going to watch the UF-OSU game that is in the past? It also would appear that you may be a little technology challanged since you sent your same post three times. Then you resort to name calling, a clear indication of low self worth and might I add, ignorance. Clearly I must assume that you have your degree from UF judging by your articulation and surely well researched facts and knowledge of so many thousands of students and Dawg fans. It’s okay Dino with some effort on your part and some therapy you may still one day, have a life. In the meantime turn off the UF-OSU video, take a deep breath, and relax, it’s okay. Maybe read a book - oh sorry. Do you know what a book is? Not the TV Guide or UF Program.

Actually, Mike, Mack Brown has now beaten OU two years in a row, and has a great shot next year. He also does something UGA refuses to do, which is actually play real teams out of conference.
Comparing UGA to Texas is comparing AAA baseball to the majors. UGA won’t be considered a big boy until they step up and play some instead of teams like Georgia Southern. The major league programs, even those in the SEC like UF, UT, and Auburn, all play big boys out of conference. Why can’t UGA?

Let’s see now. In the 3 most important games of the year, what happened. UGA..true freshman QB drives the field on your roll over D. MoMass catches how many passes in that drive AND a 2 point conversion and your D never had a clue how to stop it. Wake Forest…another true freshman sticks it to you with time running out. And WVU…LMAO! That one summed it up nicely. Oh, and by the way. James Davis and C.J. Spiller think your D is just great. Tenuta is the next Joe Lee Dunn. Everyone has it figured out now. Get ready for another LOOOOONGGGGGG year on the flats. And Chan is calling plays again and there is no Calvin Johnson to run the chuck and duck offense! ROLF!!! Now deny that your D got it done when it really mattered. Tell us all how they stood and delivered with it all on the line.

GatorBaiter, Go to Google and check out symptoms and characteristics of senile dementia. Especially pay close heed to the delusional aspects.
There are valid reasons—none having to do with ageism—why you don’t have men or women in their late 70’s being in charge of corporate entities.
As a fan of Florida— -who knows many fine FSU people—I have developed a great deal of empathy for them as they grind their teeth over an inability to pull the trigger on what must be done. Most Florida people want Blobby there as long as possible—even battling Joe Pa into his late 80’s if possible—imagine the contrast betwen a 40 year old vital person with total use of faculties and one in late 70’s who is experiencing the aging process to nth degree—-HOWEVER, I find the selfishness and petulance of Blobby to be so abhorrent that I really can find no pleasure in his overseeing the dismantling of a great program.
AND NO——-No entity in America would espouse the view—-“Well, he built it up from nowhere so he can stay as long as he wants”—Just because a doctor built up a medical practice you wouldn’t want him seeing patients if he couldn’t remember names of his staff.
My Florida brethren would say “Stay Bobby and fight on!!!” Maybe having more of a sense of decency I would echo the words spoken to Joe McCarthy—“Sir, finally have you no shame??”

Guessing Game, nice post. That is the way it is. Of course the kid can trust what Saban is telling him and Miami will be s shooting gallery. UF? I don’t know seems like Meyer is straight up with the kids but they have a boat load of talent then some at all postions. HE will definitely have to wait there before he sees PT. I read on ESPN a few weeks back a little story about John L. Smith (UL, MSU)being at practice one day and somebody asked him who the tall athletic kid was working out with the QB’s because they hadn’t seen the kid with the QB’s before. John L. said that is so-so and he is working out with the QB’s because that is his dad standing over there watching. His dad is leaving soon, so after lunch the kid will be working out with the DB’s because that’s what he is good at. The kid now plays DB in the NFL. I can imagine that is what these guys are waiting to do with Bailey. Too bad too because UGA has stocked the NFL with great DE’s the past few years. I wish Bailey luck with his choice and hope he doesn’t waste time getting jerked around by the other schools. IMO speed is a natural ability that can’t be taught so if he doesn’t have it now he probably won’t get it and he won’t have it for the SEC and NFL LB position. At least the UGA coaches are being straight up with the kid. I’d rather have that than them lying or promising something that ain’t gonna happen.

Way to use your words Marky/DawgFan
The Auburn loss to Tech was in 2005 not this year (you remember 2005 when Georgia had some remote hope of beating Florida), and it was played on “The Flats” not the flatts, and I believe that the 300 pound women (if there were any there) got “quiet”.

moc - When your offense consistently puts you back on the field with 3 and outs. It will happen. I think you need to quit throwing bricks in glass houses. Please see UK and Vanderbilt. Where was your defense against UT last year? As for the UGA game, I think you’d be happy if your defense gave up 1 scoring drive! I’d take our DC over any in the country. I might give our HC to anyone in the country but that’s a different story for a different time.

crazy4gt…you still haven’t told us when they did it when it mattered. Of course we all expect nothing but excuses from Tech fans for anything that doesn’t work out for them. You act as if you are the only team in America with that issue. I do believe UGA had some 3 and out problems as well. The difference being, they figured it out. And they did it without the D and O turning on each other like rabid dogs. On top of everything else, Tech had character issues. Until you guys learn to finish the drill, you will be forever mediocre. And so what if UGA’s O scored 8 points. I do believe they came because your D couldn’t stop them with the game on the line. Can you deny that?

Reading the UF fan posts here I’m reminded of the arrogance and cockiness of those same fans just a few months following the embarrasing blowout they received at the hands of Nebraska in the Championship game some years back…they were calling UT fans redneck peckerwoods that were simply not in the same class as those wonderful UF followers. Upon hearing that, a caller to an Atlanta radio call in show - a guy with no allegience to any local schools but clearly knew class, or lack of it, when he heard it, called in to comment on the unmitigated arrogance of the UF caller…given their having had their butts kicked on the big stage snf that they would be that personal and that arrogant, he would never, ever wish to see a Florida team win another game…in anything.
Now that they have shown that the current overall depth and speed of the SEC matches up with any team, any time, any where, their arrogance and cockiness is at a level that is impossible to measure. And if the young man says that he feels he ‘fits’ better at a UF, or, indeed, a Miami, then it says lot about the kind of kid he already is…don’t know where Alabama came from, except that Saban probably is a walking, talking smartass that probably appeals to the guy.
We’ll see just how dominate Florida will be next year - they should have lost two or three more games last year in the conference and will lose at least three next year. Guess what, Georgia wlll break the streak and start a new one…mark my words.

moc, you will never convince a mite with facts. Especially while they are in the throes of their yearly bout with delusions of grandeur. So crazy4gt, you can have it your way. Your D stuffed UGA with time running out to break your long losing streak to the Bulldogs. It valiently stood up and stopped Wake with the ACC title on the line. And the coup de grace came when they rolled WVU up like a cheap rug and sent them back to West by God Virginny with their tales between their legs. The vaunted Tech D propelled you to an 11-2 record and top 10 finish. Now crazy4gt. Feel better?

moc - You can say that about all teams. Did your defense step up against UK with the game on the line? or against UT? I don’t think so. So quit being stupid. So was our defense horrible in the 9 games that we won? Seems to me we were in the top 15 or so in total defense (you can look it up if you would like). Was our defense perfect?…no. Hey take that beam out of your eye before talking about the speck in mine. Be happy that Western Carolina and Troy game should really help your numbers!

What about Adrian Mora, the kicker from Dalton? He has received an offer from Navy and Georgia Southern but not sure who else. I don’t understand why a kid with this much ability, two 54 yard FG’s this season, one 52 yard FG last season and a 44.5 yard punting average, isn’t offered a scholarship from a big school. This doesn’t make sense.

ok, i have sat and read all the comments…as someone who bleeds black and red…i was cheering everytime the gators scored against the buckeyes, no i did not do the gator chop, but was proud of how they represented the powerhouse SEC….i will not say anything about beating Auburn, becouse they come to our house this year and we all know the reverse home field advantage of this game, as far as rivals…the SEC has more rivals than any other conferance, who is ohio states rival(S)?…ONE! Michigan, the only game they have to get up for in an entire year..USC?…who do they play?..I only wish for just one year, Texas, USC, Michigan, Ohio State and the other “power houses” could walk in a Dawg or Gator or Tiger or Volanteer shoe….thanks to all the SEC teams….you make all of your respective university fans proud……just my 2 cents worth

Uh, crazy4gt. I think maybe it is you with blinders on. You whine and make excuses as if you are the only team that had offensive woes. You are not. You are just the only team that consistently yanked defeat from the jaws of victory in the biggest games of your season. What do you not understand about that last drive in the UGA game. What was it? 80…90 yards? True freshman QB. All of a sudden Massaquoi looks like CJ. Why? Because your D was clueless and your coordinator got out schemed by an OC calling his very FIRST game. Go ahead. Keep making excuses. Keep acting like your team is the ONLY team in America that faced adversity if it makes you feel any better. UGA pulled their season together and gave you a glimpse of the future. Furthermore, every UGA fan in the world could come in here and whine and throw the excuse around that had Coutu kicked in the UK and Vandy games that UGA wins and goes 11-2. But you don’t hear that do you? Because it didn’t happen and we were 9-4 but finished the year positively. You guys need to shelve all the whining and excuse making. And your team needs to learn to finish the drill.

This isn’t really on-topic to the blog, but neither was Louis Vales’s post, so I’ll rebut it. As an FSU alum, I say that Bobby has earned the right to stay as long as he wants. Do you know what FSU had before Bobby showed up? A 1-10 season, a tin can of a stadium, and no hope in sight for ever being good at college ball. I’m sorry, but every team goes through down seasons. The “trigger” that “needed to be pulled” was Jeffy boy getting out of the OC chair. Make no mistake. FSU will be back, and soon. Don’t be bitter just because he won the NC before your precious Steve.

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed to see Allen Bailey decide to eliminate UGA from his schools, but I did take a grain of satisfaction out of it: I watched a Scout.com video interview with him, and he is f$%$ing RETARDED! I think he spoke worse than an autistic 5 year old with palsy. Good luck trying to play LB in college, not only will he not be able to keep up due to his speed, he’ll have even harder of a time memorizing the defensive playbook!!! With that being said, I still wish he was coming to UGA. Ah well…

Ugh, reading this blog is like watching a “catfight” between 2 less-than-manly guys stumble drunk out of Blakes in MidTown. UGA fan have a little humility, really. Give the Gators some credit, they totally destroyed the myth that was OSU and proved all the nay-sayers and Big-10,Big 12, and Pac-10 sycophants in the media, that gee, the SEC REALLY IS GOOD!! So thanks for that UF. Other than that, I really hate the Gators.
That being said lets look at the CMR era real quick and assess whether they should be throwing stones from their glass house. Top 10 recruiting class every year.(Excellent) 2 SEC championships out of 3 appearances (Very Good) No National Championships or Championsip Game appearances or Undeafeated Seasons (Good unless compared to UF, AU, LSU). Rivalry Games against SEC opponents, UT (5-1, Very Good) AU (3-3, Avg.) UF (1-5, Poor).
If UGA fan bases its esteem on recruiting classes and beating GT, by all means, feel free to gloat. But take a pause if you want to start acting up against Florida, Auburn and LSU. You’re just another good program, underperforming for your talent level in a GREAT conference. And those are the facts.

I read the article about about Bailey and the light came on. I have heard that Robbie Robinson is anti-UGA so I’m sure that he didn’t encourage Bailey to really consider the Dawgs. I certainly hope that he didn’t discourage him, because he has no real good reason to manipulate as important a decision for a young man as where he will go to college.

INcredibility, I would say that UGA would certainly have a similar advantage to that of UF’s in Jacksonville if the game were played in Atlanta. UF doesn’t have to travel until gameday every year of the “World’s Largest Outdoor Non-Alcoholic Cocktail Party”. They practice on their fields, sleep in their beds, etc. With that being said, the Dawgs would certainly have a luxury that they do not have currently as far as less distractions, more comfort, less stress, etc, going into the game. That certainly isn’t an excuse for a 2-15 record over the past 17 meetings, however, and I wouldn’t trade going down to St. Simons/Jacksonville every year, either. Just some food for thought.

CaptDurpDawg, I do have to say, the argument sounds a little juvenile. Texas plays in the BIG 12….2nd or 3rd behind the SEC. Come schedule a few SEC teams out of conference besides trying to beat up on all the Texas schools. Heck we scheduled a BIG 12 team…come on down.

So Florida is getting all these wide receivers. I say great because they’re not gonna have a defense or anyone to block for the qb. Can’t understand a team that is already loaded number wise at WR decides to take 10 more out of a 20 something recruiting class. And what are these receivers thinking when they look at that depth chart and still deciding to sign? I guess they have the keep em away from the other school mentality, but it’s gonna bite meyer in the butt very soon. Also wondering, with M. Stafford at UGA why aren’t more big time receivers considering Georgia? One’s that can catch!

Dear Caleb King,
If you are still open to considering Auburn, we’d love to have you. Sporting News magazine calls us “Running Back U”; check out the recent greats like Rudy Johnson, Ronnie Brown, Cadillac Williams (even Heath Evans on the Patriots) not to mention soon-to-be first rounder, Kenny Irons.
We are the best option for elite running back prospects especially with this class where we have some excellent, mammoth OL recruits (see Marcus McNeill, San Diego’s rookie Pro Bowler) coming in that will be ready to pave the way for your +2,000 yard seasons.

reality - “The Gaytors just started doing it (the Gaytor Walk) when Urban Myer got there. Jay is an idiot. If your going to pick a fight pick one about something that matters. The only thing UF has the rights to are jean shorts, bad accents, and mullets.”
Your eloquences, maturity and stellar grammar must make the rest of the UGA grads on this blog proud! (it is You’re not your). You guy’s have been clinging on to mullets and jean shorts for years now. When did bad accents come about?
Louis – CMR can get away with losing to UF because UGA has no other choice. If beating UF was mandatory, UGA would be getting a new coach every 3 years.
To those of you who are quick to point out that UGA had the overall series lead, UF’s winning percentage over the last 70 years is .515. You have to go back 80 years for it to tilt in UGA’s favor. So basically you owed our tails from 1906? to 1929. Someone here please tell me about those games. I’m 33 and I’d ask my grandfather but that was before he was born.

West Monroe defensive lineman Luther Davis has been a hot topic among recruiting fans the past week. Davis, 6-foot-4, 254-pounds, committed to LSU but when Nick Saban was hired decided to officially visit Alabama which was a sore subject for Les Miles and the Bengal Tiger faithful.
Friday morning Davis, rated a 4-star prospects and 8th best overall prospect in Louisiana, decided to publicly switch his commitment to Alabama when he verbally committed to the Tide.
“I texted Coach (Lance) Thompson yesterday and then late last night I talked to Coach Saban and told him I was coming to Alabama. They were really excited and told me how much they appreciated it because they know what I’ve had to go through living in Louisiana and looking at playing for them,” Davis said. “Coach Saban was a huge reason for me switching because I believe in what he is trying to do and I know how great of a coach he can be. I know he’s going to have Alabama in the national championship game in the next three years. My relationship with him and Coach Thompson was the difference.

Hay Recruiting,
When you said,” … Zero- the same number of Richt has won,” you erred. When Mark Richt was the OC at FSU in 1999 he was instrumental in the Noel’s winning the national championship. Mark was able to trim gators’ sails pretty handily as OC at FSU. It’s only a matter of time before he does so at UGA. With FSU, UT and UGA gunning for you upstarts from the swamp plus Auburn, who already has your number, you will find repeating the SEC championship a tall task to achieve let alone repeating the national championship. Of those five schools, you will loose at least two maybe even three games. It would be fantastic if all five schools clean your clock.
There is one championship the University of Florida will always win, year in and year out. That is the one thing you do own, world champions for the most obnoxious, conceited and demeaning fans. Regardless of how good your school’s football teams and basketball teams are, how many medical breakthroughs come from Shands or any other good that comes out of Gainesville, your school will always be marred by your fans.

INCIDENT ENDS GRADDY’S UF CAREER Orlando Sentinel - Published on 08/11/99
GAINESVILLE - This time, Rod Graddy didn’t need to get in trouble. Just being around it was enough to end his University of Florida football career.
Graddy, a junior strong safety and the Gators’ lone full-time starter returning from last year’s defense, was kicked off UF’s team for his involvement in the aftermath of a robbery in downtown Gainesville last weekend, school sources said.
February 1999 - (Source, CBS Sportline)- Former UF football players Tim Beauchamp and Dock Pollard have been named in an investigation for accepting cash from a sports agent during the past football season. The roommate of the two University of Florida football players, has been charged with illegally funneling money from a Lousiana sports agent to the athletes.Michael Joseph McDonald, 23, acted as a middleman for the agent and distributed the money to players. McDonald, of Gainesville, was charged with one felony count of unlicensed athletic agent activity. “We’re anticipating more charges” against other individuals, said policespokeswoman Sandy Badics. She could not say whether other players were involved. Florida officials said they learned about the investigation in late November, after the regular season had ended. The school suspended Beauchamp and Pollard on Dec. 28, before the Orange Bowl, for a violation of university rules. UF officials did not go public with incident until February, 10, nearly three months after the incident and a week after national signing day. A recruiter for agent William “Tank” Black, who heads operations at Professional Management Inc., (“PMI”) of Columbia, S.C., reportedly has been accused by agents of trying to bribe a Louisiana State assistant coach into funneling a top NFL prospect to PMI. PMI represents ex-UF players Fred Taylor, Reidel Anthony, Ike Hilliard and Jacquez Green, as well as outgoing Gators Jevon Kearse, Mike Peterson, Reggie McGrew and Johnny Rutledge.
January, 1999 - (Source, AP) Tight end Dwight Edge, 20, of Apopka was arrested and charged with felony aggravated stalking. University officials dismissed Edge from school soon after his arrest. A backup through most of the 1998 season, the sophomore was expected to compete for a starting position next season. According to a release from the University of Florida Police Department, Edge had been harassing and stalking a Florida student since she ended a relationship with him this past September. The release said Edge waited outside the victim’s residence, threw rocks at her window and placed harassing phone calls to her residence. Police said that on two occasions, Edge chased the victim through campus in his vehicle at speeds up to 50 mph.

December, 1998 (Source, Florida Times Union) - Three Florida players, including senior defensive end Tim Beauchamp, were suspended for violating university policy. Pollard and Browning, who have been in and out of trouble since enrolling at UF, will not return to the team. Pollard started the first five games of the season at cornerback before being suspended for the next two because of academic problems. He missed another game later in the season for a violation of university policy. Pollard was also part of a book theft incident with former player Damian Hill, although charges against Pollard were later dropped by the state attorney. Browning had been in trouble twice at UF, once for what he claimed as taking a student’s purse as a prank, and the other for driving under the influence.

He was also put on probation and ordered to pay fines. Skinner has not been suspended, pending possible action by the school’s Student Judicial Body. Skinner was quoted saying, “[t]he judge told me my driving record was so bad that I was looking at a year (in jail)….” Skinner said he spent part of his incarceration playing catch with toilet paper with other inmates. “But I was lucky. I told the attorneys I played football for the Gators and I had practice in a couple of weeks, and they brought it down to 15 days with probation.”

August, 1995 (Source: Sports Illustrated) - Sports Illustrated runs an article where it described the UF football program as “a football program plagued with domestic violence problems among its players.” The article focused on the mild sentences imposed on Johnie Church and Teako Brown for domestic violence assaults. Both players were only suspended for the season opener at Houston for their alleged actions. The article read: “The Florida football program, which does not have to meet the same standards as the judicial system, suspended Church and Brown for one game—a game in which the Gators will likely be no less than a four-touchdown favorite…. That penalty is considerably lighter than the one Spurrier levied against reserves Darren Hambrick and Anthony Riggins after the two fought at a banquet last New Year’s Eve; they were dismissed from the team. Thus Florida seems to be sending the message that domestic violence isn’t even as serious as an intrasquad scuffle.”
July, 1995 (Source: Sun-Sentinel [Ft. Lauderdale Fla.])- Four University of Florida football players, including starting wide receiver Reidel Anthony and tailback Fred Taylor, were charged for fraudulent use of a credit card. The misdemeanor charges against Anthony and Taylor, both sophomores at the time, freshman wide receiver Jamie Richardson and redshirt freshman free safety Teako Brown came after a Gainesville police investigation. Had the credit-card charges totaled more than $100, it would have been a felony. The misdemeanor charge carried a maximum sentence of one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. The pizza orders -made over the telephone on four separate occasions with Pizza Hut, Papa John’s and Hungry Howie’s - were placed from and delivered to the UF campus, police said.

There was a scuffle. Then a brawl.Riggins, a seldom-used linebacker, got the worst of it and was admitted to Tulane University Medical Hospital for treatment of a deep facial gash. He would later have hours of surgery.

Feel free to copy and distribute to your Gator friends. The U of Felons is alive and well in Gainesville.
Ian Skinner- spent 15 days in jail for driving on a suspended license… he failed two drug tests during his playing days, one for Ecstasy before he finally transferred.
Zac Zedalis- suspended for having a gun in his dorm room… sent death threat letter to a Central Michigan player
Ryan Kalich- arrested for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
Pat Browning- arrested for DUI… also arrested on one count of misdemeanor theft when he allegedly stole a purse at a Gainesville nightclub
Dock Pollard- arrested for a felony count of aggravated battery and one count of misdemeanor battery when he hit a girl in the face with a beer bottle… was also involved with agents.. implicated in the stolen book caper with Hill and Taylor
Dwight Edge- arrested and charged with felony aggravated stalking, his second violent offense in less than a year.. also arrested for battery on a fellow student. It was after the stalking incident that Spurrier added his infamous quote in Jan 1999, “I can assure all Gators that those players who cause embarrassment to our team and university will not play for us.” LOL!!! I guess he had a strange definition of what embarrassment meant considering what has happened since then.
Damian Hill- arrested on two felony counts of dealing in stolen property and two misdemeanor counts of theft for stealing text books… left school mainly due to academic problems
Fred Taylor- charged with one count of felony dealing in stolen property for the stolen textbooks and eventually pled down to a misdemeanor theft. Fred gave a statement to the police that he knew the bookbag and its contents were stolen when given to him by Damian Hill. His remorse for this situation as to state, “I still feel like I didn’t do nothing. I think the county just wanted the money.”, referring to the $108 fine…… Charged with misdemeanor for his role in Pizzagate, where he and several teammates found a credit card number and used it to buy pizza. Taylor and the others received no suspension from Coach Spurrier and played in several games before the judicial affairs committee stepped in and gave them a game. Before the season and the suspension, Spurrier said, “They got their sentence. It’s a secret. They are all scheduled to play. That’s all we need to tell you about it. We’ll handle it internally.” The Sarasota Herald-Tribune said trouble seems to cling to Taylor like dirt on a little boy. The LA Times said Spurrier kept saving his trouble prone back, getting him out of the administration office and back onto the field.
Willie Jackson- arrested for felony battery on a law enforcement officer when he was prevented from entering the student section for Gator Growl. One officer had to be taken to the hospital for facial bruising and a shoulder injury… he was suspended for all of one game and was actually allowed to play in one game after the incident.
Jaime Richardson- It only took two separate felonies before Jaime was kicked off the team. He committed a felony by throwing a deadly missile into an occupied structure and hit a person inside. It seems he was mad that he had to pay a cover charge to get into the place. His next felony was aggravated battery when he hit a guy over the head with a pool stick. He was also involved in Pizzagate and the misdemeanor from that.
Teako Brown- Involved in Pizzagate and that misdemeanor… Arrested on felony aggravated battery charges after slapping his 8-month pregnant girlfriend and throwing her to the ground. Spurrier decided to play hardball on this felony and gave him a one game suspension. After Brown’s and Johnnie Mitchell’s one game suspension for their incidents, Sports Illustrated criticized Spurrier saying , “seems to be sending the message domestic violence isn’t even as serious as an intrasquad scrimmage.” Atta boy Spurs!!!!
Elijah Williams- Charged with felony sexual battery, charged with misdemeanor for lying to police during the investigation. Was placed on probation by the university, however was never suspended by Spurs.
Johnnie Church- arrested on a misdemeanor charge of soliciting a prostitute (could never find any suspension for this)… Arrested on battery domestic violence charges when he grabbed his wife by the neck and threw her around the bedroom, which left a bruise on her neck. He was quoted as saying, “It wasn’t any brutal violence. I know it wasn’t anything big.” Spurrier, in another get tough stance, suspended him for a game.
Ernie Badeaux- Participated in a barroom brawl, in which he broke his hand. While get tough Spurrier only suspended him for one game, the university made it 6 games. He was kicked off the team for an undisclosed violation in 1997. Spurs must have swept a big one under the rug there.
Reidel Anthony- involved in a misdemeanor with Pizzagate. Get tough Spurs gave no suspension.
Derrick Corker- charged with battery domestic violence and criminal mischief involving a disagreement over a game of Monopoly. Corker grabbed his girlfriend by the hair and threw her to the ground.
Tony Davis- arrested on felony sexual battery and aggravated assault charges. He attempted to throw a girl over a 4th floor railing of her dormitory. The next morning he returned, forced his way into her dorm room, and raped her. At the time, he had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation. He was also arrested for driving on a suspended license. He eventually left school.
Aubrey Hill- arrested on domestic violence charges
Lito Sheppard- Lito failed a drug test for marijuana. It seems as if failed drug tests disappear when your team could be without both starting corners and your first game is against a pass happy Marshall team. It was rumored, but never proven, that he was with Jabar when he raided the locker room.
Jabar Gaffney- Part of UF’s first family of crime… perhaps one of the most notorious criminals ever at UF, but only because he was never punished by UF for his crimes. He committed two felonies when he burglarized a high school teams locker room and stole money and a watch. The situation got worse when there ultimately never any punishment for the legend dubbed “Jaburglar Gafelony”. He was “kicked off” the team, but allowed to stay on scholarship the following spring. When Spurrier unexpectedly lost two receivers to the NFL draft, Mr. Win at all Costs Spurrier had a sudden change of heart and allowed him to return to the team. However, he was off scholarship and in the doghouse. To this day, no one can tell me where he was working so he could pay for school when he wasn’t on scholarship. The alleged “doghouse” resulted in him being the 3rd string receiver by the time the season started and starting by the 3rd game. How could Spurs have been so harsh????? His scholarship was, of course, given back…. In a rather ironic twist, Gaffney beat a child that was trying to steal from him. Gaffney is the defendant in a civil suit as a result of excessive force. It seems this child, who was 14, was such a force that Gaffney, Bam Hardmon, and another player, all players on the UF football team could barely restrain him. (Riiiggghhttt…wink) Bam had to kick the child 3 times and kicked him three times so hard, it caused a stress fracture in his leg. When asked if the police should be called, Gaffney responded, “Hell no” and proceeded to try and drown the child in nearby lake. The child is alleging neurological injury from the beating….. Gaffney also started a brawl on Bourbon Street with U of M players because he couldn’t handle being called names by them. Realizing he needed every player to have any chance of beating Miami, Spurrier, Mr. Win at all Costs, suspended no one for the melee….. The funniest thing is that Jaburglar received more punishment for a throat slash gesture (1/2 game), than any of the above. (Spurrier at his finest!!!!!)
Rod Graddy- driver of a get away car after two men robbed a man of a $1200 bracelet. As Timothy Taylor entered the car, he pointed a gun at two men chasing him. When pulled over, Graddy told police Taylor had thrown the gun out the window. Graddy failed two drug tests while at UF.
Gerard Warren- arrested for possession of marijuana…. Taken into custody in handcuffs for his part in the brawl with UM….. you think he missed any game time for the brawl…….NO WAY baby!!!!
Clint Mitchell- has failed several drug tests while at UF, the second one rumored to be for cocaine… also implicated in a sexual battery… after sitting out for most of the season, he made it back only to be suspended for the rest of the year for reasons Spurrier has kept hidden
Kyle Morris- gambling on college and profession sports, testimony entered said he spent between $300 to $1500 a week gambling, and on more than one occasion included the Gators on his betting slip
Shane Matthews- implicated in gambling with Morris
Brady Ackerman- implicated in gambling with Morris
G. Mangus- implicated in gambling with Morris
Tony McCoy- charged with felony counts of sexual battery and aggravated battery
Anthony Mitchell- misdemeanor battery charge
Darren Hambrick/Anthony Riggins- involved in a very violent fight with each other, Hambrick used a broken glass on Riggins face, that ultimately required reconstructive surgery. Both players ended up at the hospital.
Terrence Foy- unknown what his transgressions were. First hit with a one game suspension. Then he was hit with a 5 game suspension. He was then suspended for a the whole year and it was unknown if it was for another violation, or an extension of the 5 game. He left school the following spring. Based on the number of games involved for each one, it appears drugs. However, nothing could be confirmed.
Players known to have been involved with agents are Ike Hilliard, Jevon Kearse, Jacquez Green, Mike Peterson, Reggie McGrew, Johnny Rutledge, Keith Council, Tim Beauchamp, Mo Collins, and Tony George
There have also been a host of other players suspended, but Spurs managed to keep the reasons quiet, such as Nafis Karim, Eugene McCaslin, Travis Caroll, Kavin Walton, Mike Moten, to name a few.
Bryan Savelio - Florida defensive end Bryan Savelio and his wife, Luisa, were involved in a domestic dispute. Luisa Savelio said she slapped her husband after he repeatedly called her derogatory names and he slapped her back. Florida coach Ron Zook said Savelio, who has played in all eight games and started in six, is not suspended and will play Saturday.
Reid Fleming –
Clint Mitchell - During the 2001 season , Mitchell missed the first six games and the final four of the season because of campus and University Athletic Association rules. Mitchell was accused of committing sexual battery against a female UF student in July of 2001. The attack allegedly took place on 06/20/2001 in the early morning hours. Mitchell’s lawyer, Tom Edwards, claims that the incident consisted of consensual sex and the investigation is expected to take about 30 days to be completed. However, the incident appeared to be unrelated to Mitchell’s six-game suspension for the 2001 season. His attorney was quoted in the Gainesville Sun as saying, “That suspension is not a result of these allegations. He has other problems with the university. Those problems are not a result of this allegation.” He was suspended for six weeks at the beginning of his sophomore season for violating university policy. Shortly after he was reinstated, he was suspended again for another violation of university policy. Mitchell started in all 12 games he played and was considered UF’s best defensive lineman during the 2002 season. “I want to thank my parents and brother for their support the last several years,” Mitchell said. “I would also like to thank coach Ron Zook and coach Red Anderson for their support this past season. I will be forever grateful to them for helping me get back on the field.”
Kennard Ellis Jr. - University of Florida defensive end Kennard Ellis Jr. was charged with drug possession after deputies found him smoking marijuana in a car. Ellis was charged late Thursday with a single felony count of possession of marijuana. He was booked, jailed and later released. Deputies spotted Ellis and a friend in a car smoking marijuana after they received a phone call about a domestic disturbance, according to the charging affidavit. Smoke was coming from a partially-open window. When a deputy patted down Ellis, she found 32.2 grams of marijuana in a plastic bag in his front pocket, according to the affidavit. No one answered the phone at Florida’s sports information office after hours. Ellis has an unlisted phone number in Orlando. Ellis’ arrest was made public the same day Steve Spurrier announced he was resigning as Florida’s coach.
Kelvin Kight - Three members of the University of Florida football team face notices to appear in court from the University Police Department for possession of alcohol for someone under the age of 21 and violation of the open container law. According to the UPD report, Gator football players Kelvin Kight, Sylvester McGrew, and Maurice Mitchell were all given notices to appear in court concerning their charges. The alleged incident took place late Saturday night near Fraternity Row and The Springs Complex on the University of Florida campus. The UPD report states that there were four illegally parked vehicles near the Springs Complex with several people standing around the vehicles. One of the vehicles allegedly belonged to Mitchell and UPD officers found an open bottle of vodka in the car. Mitchell and Kight are starters for the Gator football team while McGrew is a reserve defensive lineman. It remains to be seen what punishment, if any, is given to the players by Gator football coach Ron Zook.

It remains to be seen what punishment, if any, is given to the players by Gator football coach Ron Zook. Sworn complaints will be filed against three University of Florida football players suspected of ripping mirrors off several cars in downtown Gainesville early Sunday morning, police said. Mitchell was one of the players charged. Each will be charged with eight misdemeanors for criminal mischief. The damage exceeds $1,000. That could be a felony, but the state attorney will make that call. In September, Mitchell left the team for “personal reasons.” He missed the Tennessee game, among others, because of his troubles — which involved an on-the-field incident with coaches at practice. Mitchell was also one of three members of the University of Florida football team that faced notices to appear in court from the University Police Department for possession of alcohol for someone under the age of 21 and violation of the open container law. Don’t drink and park. Florida football players Mo Mitchell, Kelvin Kight and Sylvester McGrew have been given citations for possessing open containers of alcohol in a car. In addition, Knight and McGrew will face additional charges, since they are under 21. As a result, they will also face punishment from the U. Officers saw the players in a parked car near the college’s fraternity houses, and the players were holding red cups, which they claimed held Frutopia. However, the officers discovered a bottle of Grey Goose vodka in their car. We’ve got to ask - why Fruitopia?
Brian Crum - Sworn complaints will be filed against three University of Florida football players suspected of ripping mirrors off several cars in downtown Gainesville early Sunday morning, police said. Crum was one of the players charged. Each will be charged with eight misdemeanors for criminal mischief. The damage exceeds $1,000. That could be a felony, but the state attorney will make that call.

An alligator is a crocodilian in the genus Alligator of the family Alligatoridae. The name alligator is an anglicized form of the Spanish el lagarto (“the lizard”), the name by which early Spanish explorers and settlers in Florida called the alligator. There are two living major alligator species: the American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) and the Chinese Alligator (Alligator sinensis). There is also a newly evolved sub-spcies: Alligator Devotee (Alligator Bacchanal).
DEFINITION: Alligator Devotee is commonly known by the colloquial term, Gator Fan. The widely accepted definition (explanation) of Gator Fans is: Wild, unruly, repulsive and undomesticated reptilian life form, sometimes with crude, human-like features.
DESCRIPTION: Recognizable primarily by a huge, gaping mouth. Large, snaggly teeth are often chipped, broken or missing. Strange, oddly placed eyes are often glazed over by a blank stare. Rough, leather-like skin is typically covered with algae and/or slime. Some specimens are seen adorned with strange, hideous orange and blue coloring.
HABITAT: Favorite environment is dark, dank, clammy bogs and swamp areas. They can often be seen along roadways, canals, lakes and rivers. Recently, there have been an increasing number of complaints and reports that these unwanted creatures are attempting to invade areas occupied by humans.
BEHAVIOR: These cold blooded creatures are highly unpredictable. Periodicaly, these creatures emit loud bellowing and exhibit strange gyrations. Typically, the adolescents are particularly rambunctious and unruly, even to the adults of the species. It is not unusual for mature adults, especially males, to eat their young.
DIET: Gators are opportunistic feeders, eating almost anything they can catch or find. They eat fish, insects, snails, crustaceans, gar, turtles, birds, other reptiles and carrion. Evidence exists which indicate that some specimens have developed a peculiar taste for road-kill opossum and armadillo and certain alcoholic beverages such as Old Milwaukee, Colt 45 and Boone’s Farm varities.
REPRODUCTION: Unfortunately, Gators can and do reproduce. In some areas they are becoming a pestilent epidemic. Fortunately, because of the magnitude of this problem, the Dept. of Public Safety is adopting and instituting a broad management and control program which will include spay and neuter procedures and catch and contain activities which will relocate these creatures in appropriate areas.
WARNING: Citizens should adopt the reccommended DPS Policy of avoiding all contact and interaction with these unpredictable, cold blooded and wild creatures.
COMMENT: The current wave of political correctness and the notion that we should preserve even the most repulsive and despicable species dictates that we should just try to learn to live with Gators rather than eliminate them. As undesireable as that might be to some of us, it really is probably best…after all, even Gators are God’s creatures.

You assume too much tater. I am from Florida and I am an FSU alumni. I would not want the people of Georgia to be the objects of your hostility. Never assume anything! If you had read my first post you would know that anyway. However this is probably asking for a bit too much concentration from a gator supporter.
Gator put that stovepipe hat back on!

The huge comittments we got before and including November, December and January are still huge in February. We filled our gaps and got outstanding young men who WANT to be Bulldogs. That’s fine by me. While it breaks my heart to see Georgia grown yound men go elswhere, we’ll see the Bailey’s on the other side of the ball and THEY can decide where they shold have gone. Is it September yet?

Allen Bailey is not that important to the Dawgs sucess! If he has decided in his “infinite wisdom” at 18 years old that he doesn’t want to come to Athens, the program is better off without him anyway! I get the biggest kick out of high school kids who think that they are that big of a difference makers anyway! Kids like Matthew Stafford made commitments and lived up to those commitments. If Bailey doesn’t want to be at UGA,they’re better off without him anyhow; just don’t disrespect them because you decided not to go there!

i still think bailey was over rated anyway, and so do alot of scouts, thats why rivals has even downgraded him to 95 and would have dropped him altogether had they not rated him to high to begin with. plus, how much of a team player would he be? whats the big deal with insisting to be a linebacker instead of an end?
