Tyler Brown of Gainesville added two national records to his impressive list of weightlifting accomplishments at the IronDawg Open Record Setters Bench Press Championships in Athens.

Brown, an 18-year-old senior at East Hall High School, competed in the 18/19-year-old class in both raw and equipped divisions.

In raw competition, lifters lift without using tight-fitting bench press shirts, which add extra support for the muscles when lifting heavy weights. Brown’s national raw bench-press record weight was 341.5 pounds, and his equipped division record lift was 501.5 pounds.

Brown was named Best Teenage Lifter at the state powerlifting meet last spring, where he set three state and two national records by squatting 600.76 pounds, benching 424.39 pounds and dead lifting 402.34 pounds. And at the national meet in June in Norfolk, Va., Brown once again won the Best Teenage Lifter award after setting three world records —- squatting 650.357 pounds, benching 402.34 pounds and dead lifting 473.99 pounds.

Brown, who also played football for East Hall, was named the school’s Lineman of the Year and was an honorable mention offensive lineman on the Region 7-AAA coaches all-region team.
