HAWKS REPORT

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Sunday, December 07, 2008

> LATE SUB: Zaza Pachulia replaced Al Horford in the Hawks’ starting lineup minutes before the start of Saturday’s game in Dallas.

Horford turned his right ankle in the second half of Friday’s win over New York at Philips Arena but returned to the game later. With a flight to Dallas late Friday night, Hawks coach Mike Woodson said he was worried that Horford might struggle with the injury a bit Saturday, but he gave no indication before the game that Horford might not be able to play.

Yet he inserted Pachulia into the starting lineup and Horford was listed as “questionable.”

> MR. 800: Josh Smith became the youngest player to reach the 800-block milestone with a second-quarter swat of a Dirk Nowitzki shot Saturday.

His big moment came a day late. Smith celebrated his 23rd birthday Friday night with two blocks in a win over the Knicks.

The owner of the previous record run to 800, Shaquille O’Neal, reached the milestone at 24 years and nine days old. It’s the latest in a line of blocked shot records Smith has shattered. He was the youngest to block 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 and 700 shots.
