American James Blake struggled early in the first set and fought off two set points in the second before defeating Jun Woong-sun of South Korea 6-3, 7-5 in the second round at the Indianapolis Tennis Championships on Thursday.

The top-seeded Blake, ranked eighth in the world, got off to a similarly slow start in a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win against Dudi Sela on Tuesday.

In the nightcap, American Sam Querrey, seeded fourth, rallied to beat compatriot Vincent Spadea 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Bout leaves boxer in hospital, coma

Welterweight contender Oscar Diaz had surgery for bleeding on the brain and was in a coma after collapsing between rounds of a nationally televised bout in his San Antonio hometown. The 25-year-old fighter was taking a beating from Delvin Rodriguez on Wednesday night when he collapsed on his stool before the 11th round. . . . James Toney (70-6-3, 43 KOs) stopped former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman (45-7-3) in the third round late Wednesday in Temecula, Calif., after Rahman told the ringside doctor he could not continue because of a cut over his left eye.

Schnyder wins, faces Serena next

Fifth-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland beat the inconsistent Alisa Kleybanova 7-6 (8), 6-4 in the second round of the Bank of the West Classic. Schnyder next faces top-seeded Serena Williams in today's quarterfinals in Stanford, Calif.

Sooners women's player suspended

Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale says starting guard Jenna Plumley has been suspended from the team indefinitely following her arrest for petty larceny. Coale said Plumley will not participate in team activities thiu season but will remain on scholarship. Police say Plumley, a 5-foot-4 guard who started all 31 games for Oklahoma last season and averaged 7.8 points, was stopped by security personnel at a Wal-Mart on Monday and accused of trying to steal makeup.

Bucks sign former Hawk Lue

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Tyronn Lue and forward Malik Allen, giving new coach Scott Skiles two more veterans to work with. The team did not reveal terms of either contract. The 31-year-old Lue played for Atlanta and Dallas last season, averaging 5.8 points and 1.5 assists in 50 games. Allen began last season in New Jersey before being traded to Dallas. . . . The Minnesota Timberwolves have re-signed restricted free agent forward Craig Smith. . . . The Los Angeles Clippers signed restricted free agent swing man Kelenna Azubuike to an offer sheet. The Warriors have seven days to match the Clippers' three-year offer for about $9 million once they get a copy of the offer sheet.
