Larry Brackins caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Matt D'Orazio with no time remaining Saturday night as the host Philadelphia Soul edged the New York Dragons 49-48 to reach the Arena Football League's National Conference finals.
Philadelphia will host the winner of Monday night's Georgia Force-Cleveland Gladiators game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The San Jose SaberCats reached the American Conference finals with a 64-51 win over the Colorado Crush. San Jose will play the winner of today's Chicago-Grand Rapids game.
HOCKEY: 15 players elect to seek arbitration
Center Brooks Laich and defenseman Shaone Morrisonn of the Washington Capitals were among 15 players who elected to take their teams to salary arbitration. Forwards Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Stephane Veilleux of the Minnesota Wild also are going to arbitration, along with defenseman Dennis Wideman of the Boston Bruins; Carolina forward Chad LaRose; right winger Marek Svatos of the Colorado Avalanche; Florida defenseman Jay Bouwmeester; New York Islanders forward Sean Bergenheim; newly acquired center Dan Fritsche of the New York Rangers; Ottawa forward Antoine Vermette; St. Louis center Jay McClement; forward Marcel Goc of the San Jose Sharks; Detroit center Valtteri Filppula; and Nashville defenseman Ville Koistinen. The deadline for teams to decide to take players to arbitration is today. . . . The Pittsburgh Penguins signed free agent forward Matt Cooke for two years.

Former San Diego Chargers safety Terrence Kiel, 27, was killed after he was thrown from a Chevy sedan he was driving in San Diego's Scripps Ranch neighborhood, police said.
