Several Georgians are on the cusp of qualifying for the next World Golf Championship event, the CA Championship at Doral on March 17-23. Players among the top 10 in FedEx Cup points and the top 50 in the World Golf Rankings at the end of the next tournaments gain a place in the exclusive no-cut field.
If Atlanta-born D.J. Trahan can hold his position at No. 8 on the FedEx Cup list, he would get in. Former Georgia All-American Ryuji Imada needs to climb five spots from No. 15 in FedEx points.
Georgia Tech's Matt Kuchar (No. 48), Nicholas Thompson (No. 55) and Troy Matteson (No. 56), and Augusta's Vaughn Taylor (No. 64) could possibly move up on the FedEx points list through a top-10 showing.
Duluth's Stewart Cink, Alpharetta's Heath Slocum, Augusta's Charles Howell III and Sea Island's Jonathan Byrd already have qualified based on finishing among the top 30 on last year's FedEx Cup points list.
