Penn State coach James Franklin is cold-blooded.
Franklin, who gave Vanderbilt some very fruitful years during his three-year tenure from 2011-13, looks to be returning Penn State to elite status. Last season, the team finished No. 7 in the AP Poll and entered this week at No. 5.
The 2-0 Nittany Lions weren’t expected to get a challenge from Georgia State of the Sun Belt Conference, and they didn’t, winning the game 56-0.
However, Franklin apparently wanted to preserve that shutout, so he called a timeout when Panthers kicker Brandon Wright went to attempt a 31-yard field goal with 11 seconds left.
Franklin’s team and the rest of Happy Valley loved the decision.
Georgia State attempted a field goal down 56-0 with 11 seconds left. This was the result.
