Thomas Brown joins Georgia State's coaching staff

Former Georgia running back Thomas Brown has agreed to join Georgia State's coaching staff, coach Trent Miles announced Thursday night.

Brown, a Tucker native, was the running backs coach for Tennessee-Chattanooga in 2012. He will coach the same position for the Panthers.

“We are very fortunate to add Thomas Brown, a bright young coach and an Atlanta native, to our staff,” Miles said in a statement. “He was one of the best players in the nation coming out of Tucker High School – I know because I tried to recruit him at Notre Dame – and he had an outstanding career.

“Thomas has a passion for the game, for recruiting and for working with young people, and he has great ties in the area.”

Brown was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Georgia in 2011. He rushed for 2,646 yards and 23 touchdown for the Bulldogs from 2004-07.

The Mocs rushed for 2,198 yards last season, averaging 167.7 yards per game.

With the hire, Miles has one vacancy remaining on his coaching staff.

The Panthers will host the Mocs on Sept. 7 at the Georgia Dome. Timesfreepress.com in Chattanooga first reported the hiring Thursday night.
