Hoover, Ala. - Whether it portends anything or not, Brice Ramsey has the edge on paper - literally on paper - before Georgia preseason practice.

Ramsey is listed as the first team quarterback on Georgia’s preseason depth chart. That’s according to the team’s media guide, which was made available Monday at SEC media days.

Faton Bauta, who coaches have said is right there with Ramsey, is listed as the No. 2. The third-string quarterback is walk-on Sam Vaughn, although Greyson Lambert, the transfer from Virginia, is also joining the mix.

It’s notable that Ramsey is No. 1, rather than a co-starter, considering other spots on the depth chart do feature co-starters. But head coach Mark Richt, perhaps seeing the reaction from the depth chart, sent out a tweet on Monday afternoon:

“Just so everybody understands, our QB race is wide open and we will decide on a starter sometime during preseason practice! Go Dawgs!”

The depth chart also isn’t updated with any new players, other than early enrollees who participated in spring practice. So the importance of it has to be put in context.

Still, there were a few other interesting tidbits. ‘

Brandon Kublanow is listed as the first-teamer at center, with Isaiah Wynn at left guard. It’s not a surprise that both are starters, but Kublanow started every game at left guard last season, while Wynn was being groomed at center. However, indications the final week of spring practice were that Kublanow would get a close look at center.

Meanwhile, Leonard Floyd is listed as both a co-starter at outside linebacker (with Lorenzo Carter) and inside linebacker (with Reggie Carter). The other inside linebacker starter is Tim Kimbrough.

In the secondary, the cornerback starters are Aaron Davis and Malkom Parrish, with Quincy Mauger and Dominick Sanders at safety.

Isaiah McKenzie is a starter at the other receiver spot, opposite Malcolm Mitchell.

Behind McKenzie at the “Y” receiver are Reggie Davis then a trio of walk-ons. Behind Mitchell at “X” receiver are, in order, Kenneth Towns, Justin Scott-Wesley, Shakenneth Williams and then a trio of walk-ons.

Jeb Blazevich is listed as the starter at tight end, which is no surprise, followed by Jay Rome, Jackson Harris, Jordan Davis and walk-on Jared Chapple.

The order at tailback: Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, Keith Marshall, Brendan Douglas and A.J. Turman.

The fullback starter is walk-on Christian Payne, followed by Quayvon Hicks, the only scholarship fullback, then Glenn Welch and Cameron Faullkner.

Lamont Galliard, who switched from defensive line during spring practice, is the top backup to Wynn at left guard. Galliard is no longer listed with the defensive linemen.

Speaking of which, the starting ends are seniors Sterling Bailey and Josh Dawson, while the starting nose is sophomore John Atkins.

Head coach Mark Richt and three selected Georgia players (Mitchell, left tackle John Theus and outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins) are due in Hoover on Thursday.

Theus, Jenkins and Floyd are on the cover of the media guide, along with right tackle Kolton Houston.
