John Calipari held a press conference Thursday afternoon to preview Kentucky’s game against Monmouth that tips off Saturday at Madison Square Garden. By Thursday evening, Calipari was in New York to see a pair of top prospects.

Here’s the latest Kentucky basketball recruiting notebook.

Moses Brown, 5-star center

The 2018 class is short on premier big men, and John Calipari circled back to a Moses Brown, who seems to be on and off Kentucky’s radar.

Calipari and Kentucky assistant Tony Barbee visited Brown on Thursday night, according to Pat Lawless. He scored 24 points in a win.

Brown is the 17th-ranked prospect in the 2018 class and the No. 2 center, according to 247Sports composite rankings. The 7-foot, 210-pound prospect attends Archbishop Molloy High School (Queens, N.Y.).

Kentucky has always been Brown’s “dream school,” his father told the Herald-Leader in November.

Calipari has yet to offer Brown a scholarship. Maryland is the favorite to land him, according to 247Sports’ crystal ball. An offer from Kentucky could shake things up.

Cole Anthony, 5-star point guard

Calipari and Barbee weren’t just visiting Brown at Archbishop Molloy. They were also checking in on teammate Cole Anthony, according to Pat Lawless. Anthony finished with 25 points.

Anthony is the top-ranked point guard in the 2019 class and the No. 3 overall prospect, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He holds offers from Duke, Kansas and eight other schools.

It’s early, but all four crystal ball predictions have him landing with the Blue Devils.

Cole Anthony is the son of former NBA player and current CBS analyst Greg Anthony.
