Georgia Tech’s Christopher Eubanks fell in the first round of the U.S. Open Monday, losing to Dudi Sela of Israel, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

Eubanks became the first Tech tennis player to compete in the main draw of the U.S. Open while still in school, receiving a wild card from the USTA for his performance this summer in multiple ATP and lower-tier professional tournaments.

Monday, world No. 71 Sela was in control of the match throughout, never allowing Eubanks to break him and winning in a little more than an hour and a half. Eubanks did fire off 10 aces to Sela’s two.

A senior, Eubanks will take the fall semester off to continue to play in professional tournaments as an amateur before returning to Tech for his final season in January.

U.S. Open spot ‘beyond comprehension’ for Tech’s Eubanks
