Bowl game leads to governors' friendly wager

A friendly football rivalry could put food on the table for some needy Georgians.
Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue and Texas Gov. Rick Perry are each betting on their home teams in today’s Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La.
They’ve placed a friendly wager on the game between the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Texas A&M Aggies: supplies for a local food pantry.
“In 2007, Gov. Perry graciously flew the Georgia flag at the Texas Capitol after the Warner Robins Little Leaguers defeated Texas for the U.S. championship in route to their World Series title,” Perdue said.
If UGA wins the bowl game, the winnings will go to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. A Texas win will mean food supplies are headed to Minnie’s Food Pantry in Plano, Perdue’s office said.
Kickoff was set for 5 p.m. EDT.
