Georgia State's football roster will soon have an addition familiar to coach Bill Curry.

Auburn tight end and Walton High grad Bailey Woods, the son former Georgia Tech lineman Jim Woods whom Curry once coached, has decided to transfer to Georgia State. He committed Thursday, four years to the day after he committed to Auburn.

Woods said his father, who played for Curry when he was the offensive line coach at Tech in 1976, bit his tongue as best he could. Others, though, said plenty.

"Auburn coaches, coaches from other schools that recruited me, not a single person had anything bad to say about Coach Curry, Coach (John) Bond and the whole staff," said Woods, who one scouting service ranked as the No. 5 tight end in the country when he was at Walton.

In May, Woods will graduate from Auburn after three years with a degree in public administration. He has two years of eligibility remaining and can play immediately. Woods, who played special teams for the Tiger last season as a redshirt sophomore, plans to coach after his playing career ends and had considered becoming a student assistant coach at Auburn. But he was told that he could not retain his scholarship if he were to coach. He will pursue a master's degree in education at Georgia State.

He is also well aware of whom the Panther play in the final game of the 2010 season.

Said Woods, "It's always going to be exciting to play great competition, but the opportunity to play Alabama, a team I've been deep rivals with the last three years, you can't beat that."
