- The Thrashers have lost eight straight (0-5-3), but earned a point in the past two games with losses in overtime and in a shootout.
- The Penguins are also struggling, having lost five straight and six of their past seven.
- The Thrashers dropped a 3-2 decision to the Penguins at Philips Arena on Nov. 21. After Tuesday’s game they won’t see the defending Stanley Cup champions until facing them twice in the final eight days of the season.
- Tonight’s game is the final of a month-long stretch in which the Thrashers played 13 of 17 games on the road. They are 4-9-3 during the stretch. The Thrashers will play seven of the final 12 games in January at home.
- Ilya Kovalchuk has scored a point in 14 of the past 16 games (10 goals, 12 assists). Entering Monday’s games he is fourth in the NHL in goals (25) and seventh in points (47).
- Tobias Enstrom is three points away from tying Yannick Tremblay’s franchise mark of points by defensemen at 107.
