Falcons’ game against Eagles shaping up as must-win
Vick canceled the “Michael Vick Community Celebration” in his hometown of Newport News, Va. this week because it conflicted with another event in Atlanta, organizer Andrew Shannon told the Associated Press Monday.
Vick also told Shannon the event was with the Humane Society in Atlanta, according to the Associated Press.
The Humane Society of the United States had no comment Tuesday, but has said in the past it would work with the former Falcons quarterback.
The Atlanta Humane Society has no affiliation with the national group and a spokesperson said the local organization has no events scheduled with Vick.
The president of the Atlanta-based human rights organization New Order said Tuesday that Vick’s meeting in Atlanta Saturday is a private meeting with the Humane Society of the United States.
Gerald Rose, president of New Order, said his organization would offer to mediate the meeting, but also said New Order wasn’t invited to attend and that he did not know which HSUS official Vick was meeting with.
A phone call and e-mail to Shannon were not returned Tuesday. A phone call to Vick’s agent also was not returned.
