Falcons’ fixes (part 3): Sign Grimes, Lofton; balk on Abe
"We became aware of Eric's situation on Tuesday morning," coach Mike Smith said Wednesday night. "We don't like these kinds of incidents and we're disappointed."
Weems, who made the Falcons as an undrafted rookie free agent, is the team’s kick returner and has caught six passes for 50 yards. He’s had six rushes for 36 yards.
He was not available in the locker room to the media but later issued a statement through the team: "I am embarrassed about the situation and I sincerely apologize to the entire Atlanta Falcons organization and our great fans."
Weems' arrest will be reviewed by the NFL under the league's substance abuse policy.
