The Falcons waived cornerback David Irons on Tuesday after reaching an injury settlement with him.

Irons, who is from Dacula and played at Auburn, was a sixth-round draft pick in 2007.

“With his present injury condition and situation, we decided that it was in the best interest of both parties to kind of move forward,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said. “To kind of let him continue to heal and possibly entertain an opportunity with another team in the National Football League.”

Over two seasons, Irons played in 20 games, mostly on special teams. He suffered a knee injury Dec. 14 against Tampa Bay and finished the season on injured reserve.
