Portis left the game with 3:20 remaining in the first quarter after a helmet-to-helmet hit from DeCoud. The Redskins said Portis suffered a head injury and would not return.
There was no penalty on the hit.
Portis was helped to his feet after being checked by the medical staff on the field. He appeared shaky at first, but then walked off the field with a towel over his head.
Earlier in the game, Falcons receiver Brian Finneran was escorted to the locker room with a knee injury. There was no immediate report on his status.
The Atlanta Falcons are without backup running backs Jerious Norwood and Jason Snelling against the Washington Redskins.
Norwood (hip) missed his third straight game and Snelling (hamstring) is inactive for the second straight week, cutting into the Falcons' depth behind running back Michael Turner.
The Falcons also are without starting defensive tackle Thomas Johnson, inactive with a calf injury. Trey Lewis was the fill-in starter.
