Falcons’ fixes (part 3): Sign Grimes, Lofton; balk on Abe
All of the teams in the running back market have worked him out, a list that includes Seattle, Houston, New England, Philadelphia and Minnesota and San Diego.
"He has a private workout in a couple of days with New England," Adisa Bakari, his Washington, D.C.-based agent, said Monday.
While Dwyer competed at the NFL scouting combine still feeling the effects of a sprained toe he suffered in the Orange Bowl, he improved on all of his times at Georgia Tech's pro day.
Dwyer, who played at Kell, had to persuade teams that he could play seven yards deep in the backfield after playing closer to the line of scrimmage at Tech.
"When teams look at his film they can see his ability to cut," Bakari said. "You see him cutting and out-running people at 240 pounds. Teams leave the film study more intrigued because they see his instincts. He had to make split decisions that close to the line."
Dwyer, who entered the draft after his junior season, believes he'll fit nicely into a pro offense.
"I'm going to be a different kind of back," Dwyer said. "I could be the back who can make the home-run play or be physical. Every time I get the ball I'm going to make sure that it's going to be for positive yards."
Dwyer could be the second running back taken, behind Clemson's C.J. Spiller.
"In this whole process of going through interviews, you have to separate yourself from the other guys and express what you can bring to the table," Dwyer said. "Like myself, if you're looking for someone to be a complete back who's able to pass block, run inside and run outside."
