It took Jake Peavy to do it but the Gwinnett Braves fell mildly to Charlotte Monday night, losing 4-1 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader at Gwinnett Stadium. Gwinnett’s Bobby Brownlie was to face the Knight’s Daniel Hudson in the nightcap.

Peavy, the 2007 National League Cy Young winner on an injury rehab assignment from the Chicago White Sox, pitched five scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out three. The Braves’ lone score came in the seventh and final inning, when Brooks Conrad drove in Van Pope with a two-out single.

Gwinnett’s John Halama (4-6) was charged with the loss, giving up three earned runs on four hits while striking out five.
