Gwinnett Braves eliminated from playoffs

Juan Miranda’s two-run single highlighted a five-run bottom of the fourth inning as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees eliminated the Gwinnett Braves from the Governor’s Cup playoffs Saturday with a 12-3 victory.

The Yankees banged out 13 hits and also scored multiple runs in the second, sixth and eighth innings to win the first-round best-of-five International League series three games to one. Miranda and Kevin Russo each had three RBIs, as the winner roughed up Gwinnett starter Jonny Venters, who allowed eight hits and five earned runs in three innings.
Zachary McAllister took the pitching win for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, scattering eight hits in 5-1/3 innings.
Gwinnett scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth. Barbaro Canizares, Brian Barton and Van Pope each had two hits.
