The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Boston Red Sox severed ties with John Smoltz on Monday, announcing they were releasing the former Brave, which made him available to other teams at a pro-rated major league minimum salary. The Braves are not among the teams interested in signing him though, according to Braves general manager Frank Wren.

"With the anticipated addition of Tim Hudson in the near future, we have not pursued John Smoltz," Wren said in a text message Monday.
Other teams reportedly interested in Smoltz include the Dodgers, Marlins, Cardinals and Rangers. Smoltz went 2-5 with an 8.32 ERA in eight starts for Boston. Hudson is expected to make three more starts on a minor league rehabilitation assignment before returning from elbow surgery.
