Georgia Southern is eighth in the nine-team SoCon in both total and scoring offense. The Eagles are averaging 282.8 yards and 19.2 points, ahead of only Western Carolina in both categories. ... Redshirt freshman DT Brent Russell (Madison County) is tied for second in the conference with six sacks. Senior DT Markeith Wylie (Washington-Wilkes) has recovered three fumbles. ... The school will honor the military Saturday with helmet decals and the 1989 and 1999 national championship teams with reunions, tailgates and halftime ceremonies.

Savannah State (2-7)

Next game: at North Carolina Central (3-7), 1:30 p.m. Saturday

North Carolina Central has won three of its past four games after an 0-6 start. ... RB Justin Babb (Westlake) had only 34 yards rushing in last week’s loss to Webber International and his chances are fading to become the Tigers’ first 1,000-yard rusher since Troy Hambrick in 1999. Babb currently has 768 yards with one game to play. ... WR Deleon Hollinger averaged 18 yards on two punt returns and is fifth in the nation with a 15.9-yard average on 12 returns. He also scored on a 5-yard reception in Saturday’s loss.
