About Atlanta United’s white shorts

White shorts?!?!?. (Chris Young/The Canadian Press via AP)

Consider this one of the odder things I’ve written about in a while:

Atlanta United wore white shorts with its gray (concrete gray) alternate jersey in last week’s 2-2 draw with Toronto.

The white shorts were noticeable because the team typically wears red (brake-light red to stick with the team motif) with its away jersey.

Gray top/red shorts is supposed to be the uniform combination.

However, because Toronto also wear red shorts — and there can’t be a color clash — Atlanta United had the choice to wear white or gray shorts. The team deferred to Adidas, which is the kit designer and supplier.

The team will wear red shorts with its gray tops for Saturday’s game against Montreal.

Personally, I like the white shorts … with the red-and-black primary kit. But that’s just me and is true only as long as white isn’t worn after Labor Day. The horror!

So, another fashion mystery solved.
