The Houston Astros placed former Braves left-hander Mike Hampton on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a left groin strain.
It’s the 12th time in his 15-year career that Hampton has been on the DL. He is 4-5 with a 4.70 ERA in 12 starts for the Astros this season.
Brandon Backe will take Hampton’s start on Thursday against the Texas Rangers.
