Ex-Brave Mike Hampton leaves start with thumb cut

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Astros pitcher Mike Hampton left Tuesday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers with a cut on his left thumb.

The left-hander threw a season-low 60 pitches in four innings. He didn’t come out for the fifth and Russ Ortiz relieved.

Hampton (2-3) allowed two runs and three hits. He walked three and struck out four.

Ortiz allowed a single by Brewers starter Dave Bush in the fifth, then led off the bottom of the inning with a homer off Bush.
