UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Is ‘08 Georgia-Florida biggest ever?

So just how big is Saturday’s Georgia-Florida game? By any measure, real big.

The biggest ever, if you believe Gainesville Sun columnist Pat Dooley. That’s what he wrote on Monday, and he makes some very good arguments to that end. Pat’s a good buddy that I’ve gotten to know over our many years in this business. When you’re searching for the Gators’ perspective, Pat’s one of the best to visit. In fact, pending the approval of his paper’s management, I’ve asked him to handle the five questions with the opposing team’s writer for us this week (we need to come up with a name for that, don’t we?).

Anyway, I can’t decide whether I agree with Pat or not. As he details in his column, there are a lot of reasons to vote for this one. For starters, it’s the highest ranked the two teams have been in the modern era whether you go by The AP (Florida 5, Georgia 8) or the BCS (Georgia 6, Florida 8). With that come the obvious national implications.

Really, even more important than that is that the these two live in the same neighborhood. The game is essentially an SEC East semifinal with the loser facing virtual elimination. Add the backdrop of last year’s touchdown celebration and you’ve got some pretty combustible fuel.

But I’ve done a lot of research in this area and there have been some awfully good and extremely meaningful Georgia-Florida games. Shoot, 1980 (2 vs. 20), ‘83 (4 vs. 9) and ‘84 games (8 vs. 10) all featured excellent teams with major SEC and national implications. The ‘76 game, featuring No. 7 Florida vs. No. 10 Georgia, to me is one of the all-time classics. And Georgia people probably forget that the Dogs were pretty darn good heading to Jacksonville in ‘99 (No. 10 against UF’s 5) before Spurrier’s Gators put a 30-14 whipping on them and the season imploded.

Never minding records and rankings there have been some barn-burner games. But usually it’s been more meaningful for one than the other. Often the best games have been when the underdog won, but those are big only retrospectively.

So what do y’all think? You agree with Gainesville’s Dooley and think it’s the biggest Georgia-Florida ever? How do you fans rate in terms of anticipation?

While you’re mulling that, here’s some links for your reading pleasure:

Dave Curtis of The Sporting News was at the Georgia-LSU game and weighs in on this the Florida game and the whole “Celebrate Gate” deal… .

Knoxville News columnist John Adams has been very consistent in his criticism of Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer. In the last two editions he has written that Fulmer needs to be fired and, a day later, blames Fulmer’s demise on the departure(s) of longtime offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe… .

Remember Arizona State and the angst Georgia had going out to Tempe to play that game. Well, things have changed just a smidge for the Sun Devils since then… .

A special thanks to Jon Solomon of the Birmingham News, who has gone to the trouble of quantifying Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville’s inability — or is it unwillingness? — to retain coordinators. I’m sure you’ll be shocked to learn that his research concludes that Ol’ Ears has run through more than anybody.

you listen to Meyer, read the Gainsville Florida paper, read the gator blogs, you think beating them was like an eclipse, it just doesn’t happen often. Reading Meyer’s comments this morning, it’s all excuses last year. You will never, ever hear that man tip his hat and say, good game Dawgs, you got us this year. There is no respect from that team for our Team, coach, State or university. We’ve got a pretty good team heading down there. For their sake, I hope they use more than there mouth to play us. All this posturing they do will be gone after the whistle blows. They will have to prove it, not tell us. Go DAWGS.

At least we knew what we had with Spurrier. We hated him and he hated us. He was obnoxious but he earned his arrogance. Meyer is an interloper in this whole thing. Can’t wait to see what he writes in his next book “Urban Meyer, the Neverending Whine” after Dawgs win by 17.

The winner will play Alabama for the SEC Championship and a shot at playing Penn State for the mythical National Championship. The loser will likely finish the season with 2 losses and a top 10 finish. So this game is big.

I don’t know though that it is bigger than the other games you mentioned though, and I would add the 1996 game to that.

Chip I noticed that warning posted under the recruiting blogs this morning for offensive material. Why only there? I’ve always thought those were the nastiest blogs on the AJC and even worse since they tend to be directed at individual, kids actually, who did not ask for anyone’s opinion of thier college choice. Reporting about it is one thing, folks follow recruiting very closely now, but I’ve never understood why that needed to be in a blog format.

Colin Cowherd must have been looking at Georgia’s schedule when he said that college football games are decided by schedules. There is no way a Georgia team could show up with anything left in the tanks against Bama after a war with USC and then a brutal west coast road trip. The same will be true against Florida.

You can only hope you have to play a minnow after LSU in Death Valley. You can’t play two huge games in a row, much less the last two national champions. I will be amazed if the team that shows up against Florida will resemble the group in Baton Rouge. Everything has worked out perfectly for the Gators, and they’ll blame the whole massacre Saturday on the celebration last year.

As far as I’m concerned, Saturday’s game will be the biggest ever. But doesn’t it seem like every year the UF game carries more weight than any other regular season game? The success (or redemption) of any UGA squad, for as long as I can remember, has been determined by whether or not the UF game was a win or loss.

Gator fans love to tell me that they consider FSU or Miami, not UGA, to be their biggest season rival. Knowing my own hatred for all things orange and blue, it burns me up to hear that, so I use the same analogy on my Tech friends!

Given the way UGA handled LSU last weekend, it seems as though our boys spent the first half of the season getting revved up. Now that they’re up to speed, I don’t think UF will stop ‘em. Go Dawgs!

The words “Gainesville” and “Dooley” just don’t seem right together.

If Georgia can match Florida’s intensity in the first few minutes then I think we can settle in and play sound, fundamental, smart football. I have a ton of respect for Florida’s ability. They have plenty of gamebreakers.

This may be one of those defining games of the Richt tenure.

If The Dawgs win this one and finish undefeated, win the SEC, play for the NC and win it - then it will have been The Pivotal Game Of The Season.

I had the fortune of being in Jax in 1980 for the Miracle On Duval Street. Watching Lindsay Scott score that TD during the game and then hearing that GT had tied ND while we were in the crowd leaving the stadium was BIG - I MEAN BIG.

By Bob

The biggest ever? Only history can be the judge of that. It is one of the biggest of the past 15 years or so though. Win and we’ve got a streak going against the Gators, something that many probably thought was impossible not that long ago. You probably won’t hear too much about how they’ve won 15 of the last 18 or whatever it is because it will be ancient history. Lose and get ready for another year of hearing about how we can’t beat Florida and they are our “achilles heel” and blah, blah, blah. We’ll kind of be back to square one if we lose this game. The national respect that we’ve all been hoping for will not come.

So yeah, this game is pretty damned big.

By WestPalmDawg

October 28, 2008 9:41 AM | Link to this

Not sure if this is the biggest GA FLA ever. This year, it’s for the east, which gets you a chance to get to atlanta and if you’re Georgia, a chance to redeem yourself against Bama. THEN it’s on to the NC, hopefully against the Big 12.

I agree w/ FLA DAWG that looking back, if we win the NC, than THIS is the biggest GA FLA matchup ever. Looking back over the past several years, this matchup is always the biggest game of each season.

Can’t wait for the drive on Friday! Painting the car, stocking the flags and filling the cooler! GO DAWGS!

If you live in Jacksonville…every year we play Florida is the biggest. You get sick of these Gators and their #15 jersey’s everywhere. The entire family will go out to eat at Outback and all 5 will have their #15 jersey’s on. A family of Superman’s! They are sick and raising their little children to continue this tradition. The Dawgs have to bring the answers to stop this madness.

I think the fact that we see Meyer and the entire Gator team dodging these celebration questions is in fact bulletin board material. Their attitudes stink. Typical snot-nosed brats. I think the Georgia theme should be: “The beatings will continue, until morale improves.”

If the Dawgs can contain Demps and Rainey, get some good pressure and a few sacks on Tebow, things will fall in for us. Plus, the less we have to punt the better. The Gators have great punt coverage and blocking ability. The best way to beat them at that is to not worry with putting the punting units on the field. Score, score, score.

The excitement is certainly there, no doubt. Big game, conference and nationally speaking. I think it’s simply going to come down to fundamentals. Who makes the fewer mistakes, who makes the bigger, impacting plays and if once those big plays are made (and there will be a ton), how does the other team respond. I wish I could hibernate till 3:30 Saturday. I’ve waited for this game with anticipation and nervousness all year. If UGA can maintain the same intensity they had during the big celebration without getting the 30 yard penalty, they will be just fine and it should make for a very exciting game. I think UF’s probably the best team they’re going to face this year, and I feel UGA’s alot better today than they were against AL. If they beat UF, they deserve everything coming to them down the stretch. Go Dawgs.

Zone I think his point was more that Florida played LSU at home and then had a week off, then played Kentucky. We played LSU on the Road then play you guys the very next week. From that strict standpoint, much more difficult. Personally, I dont think it’s a big factor. That tough LSU game seemed to work out some issues (and recognize some still exist) and could be a huge confidence booster, more so than had we blown out a a helpless team. Or in our case, done just enough to get past another one. Who knows. It might end up being an advantage to have it set up this way for us. I doubt emotions and the previous week will matter much about 2 minutes in.

This is without question the biggest cocktail party in recent history. And I’m about to say something that will make me unpopular with my fellow Dawg fans: Florida is playing better football than UGA right now. They really are. That win in LSU, while nice, is misleading. The offense only put up 35 points in that game, while 17 points came off of turnovers. Plus LSU is overrated on defense, just like last season. They are good at stopping the run, but weak against the pass. Florida right now is the better team. With that being said, that doesn’t mean they will necessarily win. I think playing Bama( who I think is the toughest most physical team in the conference this year) will help UGA because Florida is NOWHERE NEAR as physical as Bama and they haven’t played a team yet that has hit them in the mouth. Also, if UGA wins this year, I don’t want to hear a damn thing from Gator fans about Tebow’s shoulder being hurt. I don’t want to hear excuses from either side! Let’s strap it up and play some ball, and let the best team win.

For all of you who want playoffs, here they are:

Quarter finals: UGA vs Fla LSU vs Bama Texas vs Texas Tech Missouri vs Kansas

Semi finals: SEC Championship Game Big 12 Championship Game

Finals SEC Champs vs Big 12 Champ

Consolation Game—Rose Bowl Big 10(11) vs Pac 10

Now if we could get the writers and polsters to cooperate, the MNC could be decided on the field and it would be a REAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

EXCUSES FROM EITHER SIDE ARE RIDICULOUS!!!

THE BEST TEAM WON LAST YEAR, AND THE WINNER OF THIS YEARS TEAM WILL BE THE BEST ON THE FIELD. THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.

Tebow’s should had nothing to do with the fact that the defense gave up so much last year to a better UGA offense. Also, Urban caused Tebow to be beat up by running him so much the prior week against LSU. That being said, I am totally expecting a different outcome this year. Defense is greatly improved and underrated. Also… Jeff Demps!!!!

The Gators gave up 42 points in a major SEC game last year and you expect Meyer to say “The reason we lost was that we played great defense, but Georgia’s offense was just better”?

And when he blames his own organization’s play (not the officiating, not the Stomp) for a loss he’s ‘whining’?

When the Gators are professional enough to not give UGA any bulletin board material, “Their attitiudes stink. Typical snot-nosed brats”.

Meyer believes the Gators are capable of winnning every game, and when we don’t win, he blames NO ONE outside his organization.

After virtually every SEC game he gives props to the other team. Go to Gatorsports dot com and you’ll find his post game comments from Kentucky.

So UGA posters here can put up whatever garbage they want and everybody else supports it? There’s not a single disagreement among you. Yawn.

I was hoping this thread would be informative. It was.

The winner of this football game will probably capture the SEC championship. A Dawg loss will allow pollsters to drop them in the rankings like a crime victim in cement overshoes plummets to the bottom of the sea. A rematch with Bama would be best possible scenario. If players cannot get up and coaches cannot motivate for that return engagement then Dawgs are truly not a Top 10 team! Have not been impressed by Texas or Penn State. Ohio State Yuckeyes back in landfill where they belong. Usually Sucking C++K (USC for short) has another loss left in it before the regular season concludes. UGA must not turn the ball over or make mental mistakes! Run if possible. Utilize short passing attack. Hit Tebo every play, hit him in the parking lot, Hell, hit him in the lockerroom. JUST HIT HIM! His true nature will then surface. All those points against LSU were a dream. Do not turn Jacksonville, Florida into a nightmare. GO DAWGS!

I hope to see some blood spatters and some snot flying. Skinned elbows and broken face masks. It is time to separate the men from the boys.

Having said that what really scares me about this game is our secondary giving up big plays and a lot of yards, our lack of an effective pass rush, and our kickoff team consistently giving the opposition good field position.

Since we are the “home team” this year what do you think about CMR springing the Black Jerseys on the team just before they leave the locker room.

Meyer’s already making excuses for will be an easy win by the dawgs over the overrated Gators. UGA blew out lsu at their place and will do the same thing to the gators, which have a weaker defense than lsu. I look for the dawgs to score early and often with moreno breaking a few long runs, Stafford lighting up the weak UF secondary like last year, and some scores by the D, just like against Lsu. UF is a finesse team—that spread offense will not work against a physical D like the dawgs have. UF better keep those little backs Demps and Rainey on the bench, or they may get hurt against that Georgia D. UGA rolls to an easy win and onto the SEC title game. Bama will be next.

For anyone born on or after 1980…this is the most important game in the series’ history. I, for one, think this game is bigger for us Dawgs. Mainly because if we lose, we are the same overrated UGA football team. If the Gators lose, it was just a bad day and they’ll still be in good favor with Nat’l media because they won a championship in the past 30 years. Personally, I think this year’s game is not as significant as the 1966 game. In 1966, Fla may have won the NC if they had beaten GA. They didn’t and GA wound up something like fourth in the final rankings. This year, the winner will probably face ALA in the SEC CG. However, even if ALA loses, the winner probably won’t get in the NCG. The media, and especially ESPN, are trying to set up Penn State for a run at the NC. The opponent will probably be the Big 12 champ or USC, which, if they run the table, will be ranked higher than a one-loss SEC champ. USC, after all, is one of the media favorites. Look at the disparity between Ohio State and LSU in the rankings this week. Both have lost to two of the best teams in the nation, but OSU is ranked significantly higher. Does anybody seriously think OSU is that much better than LSU? I don’t.

Dawgman, this is a funny response. LSU has a better defense than Florida??? You may want to check out how we did against LSU 2 weeks ago. Florida did not give up 38 against ANYONE this year.

But, in typical UGA fashion compare this game to last years and refer to the defense UF had last year. Most of those players are not starters this year. So, this will not be an easy win for either team.

Dawg4Life, you hit on something that’s very key to this game & season for the Dawgs, the penalties! Part of the issue has been the refs!!! We don’t need to do anything to intentionally draw a penalty this year! That might only add fuel to the fire of making us “pay” for the celebration last year. The refs probably aren’t out to “get” UGA but are paying closer attention to everything because of the attention we brought on ourselves. CMR needs to talk to the refs beforehand & check in with them all game long to make sure they call it fair. He also needs to watch Myer as he tries to work the refs. If the Gators have something planned to get back at the Dawgs it could backfire because the refs may then turn their attention to the Gators. Usually you like to see the refs “let them play” but with all the hostility & hype from last year early on it’s a good guess we’ll see a lot of yellow flags on the field. The refs will assert themselves in the name of “keeping the game under control”. Hopefully if both teams don’t do anything intentionally they’ll loosen up & “let them play” as the game goes on. Let’s just hope there isn’t a repeat of the 1st half AL game where because even if the bad calls are on FL I didn’t want that to be an excuse if we beat them. What I’m really saying is I hope the refs just call the game & don’t make bad calls that help determine the outcome. Go Dawgs!

WOW!!! I can not wait until Monday to read some of these comments when Florida wins. UGA had a better team than Florida did last year. Gators were mediocre at best. The defense was soft and it was the Tebow/Percy Show, yet I remember in the score being 35-30 with less than 3 minutes remaining in the game. UGA is not as good as they were last year and the Gators have a defense and are distributing the ball to everyone. UGAs been squeaking by, they better bring their lunchpails for this one, cause Florida wins. Gators 48 Leghumpers 17

Hey Kim,

Check your facts shaved tail - The Dawgs lost to Bama - undefeated and one of the best teams in the country.

UF lost to Ole Miss - one of the………… well, even you get the idea.

Bottomline, I don’t think UF is nearly as good as most believe they are. They’ve played perhaps the easiest schedule in the SEC this season.

The Dawgs have played everybody and their big brother. I think The Dawgs win this one by 7 to 10 points.

Last year we had a banged up Tebow and Moore was our running back. Get to know these two names- Demps and Rainey. Oops, I haven’t even mentioned Harvin yet. Keyshton Moore put on 20 pounds and is now a fullback. Many more weapons on offense this year.

First of all since year 2001 the game is way more competitive than ever, just look at the score of every game, and add to that florida almost always had an extra week of rest and preparation. I have the feeling that Georgia will blow out Florida. 2002: florida won 20-13, 2003: Florida won 16:13 2004: Georgia won 31:24 2005: Florida won 14:10 2006: Florida won 21:14 2007: Georgia won:42:30

All I can say is that whoever wins this game better jump USC in the BCS or all is not right in the world. USC’s only ‘quality’ win was against a 2 loss OSU team that’s dumped the last two championship games. I really don’t get why they are up there, even with the ‘unbiased’ computer models. If a one loss USC team ends up in the championship over a one loss UF, UGA or Bama, then something is seriously wrong with the system.

Radogator, I have plenty of friends and family that are Gator fans. I can personally vouche that the die-hard fans have horrible attitudes. Georgia fans have our own, I know a few of those as well. I would like to enlighten you on a few things: 1) Meyer is a great motivator, which is all that matters when your coaches surrounding you call the majority of the game. I think coach Richt learned that last year. I’d like to see more motivation at not getting penalties, but they are pretty good sacrifices when in small numbers, I think they have just gotten too excessive. 2) To comment on Meyer’s class; a family friend was at Shands in Gainesville and Meyer, Billy Donovan, the basketball team, and others came by to see her. Tebow didn’t show up, but she asked and he called her. I have to respect the class of what he did, and I know she wasn’t the only one. 3) Professionalism hardly is defined by bulletin board material. It is a simple fact that we know you guys are complaining about the celebration (which was on the first drive of the game, and by no means affected the END of the game.) The Gators don’t have to post anything, the Dawgs know they are mad and we like it that way. 4) I think it is hilarious that Meyer pulled a publicity stunt by mentioning the celebration in a book. I mean, how much filler material do you need? Tell me that is professional. It’s professional whining while trying to excite the fan base. “Buy my book, see what makes me mad, get mad with me, get your friends to buy the book, get them mad too.” 5) And to Percy Harvin: You don’t label your ownself as having class. That is an act that you perform and other people notice. That is conceit in my eyes. 6) I’d love to say I agree with you, but why is celebrating with our team a slap in your face?! That makes little sense, not a punch was thrown, and who knows what was said from both teams, but it was a celebration with the UGA team. Now, a couple of players directed gestures to your team during the game. Most vividly from Mo Mass, which I enjoyed more than the celebration.

Anyhow, unless you are Coach Meyer’s personal assistant, which you may be, don’t give this blog a character analysis that we all have to take with a grain of salt. We have our opinions and your posting is not going to change our minds. Just like the UF blogs all say how vehement they are against the celebration. Catch is, I’m not trying to justify it.

I expect a close game. The outcome depends on which team’s defense shows up. And special teams.

Both offenses are clicking right now, so expect a high score. in the 30’s heck maybe 40’s.

Florida’s defense better than last year’s. And that could be the biggest factor.

I would expect a war. There may be lots of yellow flags flying around.

The winner gets that shot at Bama. And is still in the hurt. The loser goes to the Capital One Bowl.

GatorZone is right…he who wins will have earned it.

I will have plenty of beer, to celebrate or cry in.

Chip, The ‘99 Dawgs were a typical Donnan team: talented but couldn’t beat the elite programs.
The 2003 UGA-UF game was a huge deal, as the Dawgs had national title hopes but still possessed a huge psychological disadvantage. I think that game was a bigger deal for GA fans and for the national audience as ESPN Gameday’s attendance confirmed.

Here’s a little secret. Every possible means of communication known to man … land phones, faxes, email, instant messaging, cell phones, telegraphs, satellite phones, overnight delivery, US postal service, bicycles, scooters, segways, rickshaws, pony express, airways, underground tunnels, smoke signals, radio, TV, “Beam Me Up” paths through the ether, and even face-to-face contact, will be used this week between the SEC office, the SEC football officials office, the NCAA, AND the head coach’s and AD’s offices in Athens and Gainesville, in order that one message is relayed to and received by Mssrs. Richt and Meyer ….

ANY celebrations or unorthodox methods of motivating your team before, during and after this week’s game will not be allowed or tolerated, and any infraction will mean that you, your AD, your school president, your team captains, and all of your seniors, will be thrown out of the game and the stadium this week AND in your game next week.

Don’t you agree, Mr. Towers? I have it on good authority, almost as good as your sources, that such a stern message (though perhaps modified somewhat) has been and is being sent from and to all of the aforementioned parties.

Wouldn’t it be nice to read about what the SEC and NCAA and the officials (referees) groups are doing and/or saying in this regard? Maybe a story idea in there somewhere?

This game will be as clean and sterile and unvarnished and snow-white as the Virgin Mary herself.

Gatortime, I don’t mean to be obvious, but until your championship two years ago, the Gator fans that I know still brought up 1996. I know the number of years are quite different, but aren’t we all clinging to the past. I mean, you won’t let us forget two years ago. The time is Saturday 3:30 pm, so to me, that is put up or shut-up. Neither team can go by what they did last year, or 28 years ago. Even two years is a long time to me. Not to mention every Dawg fan I knew, gritted their teeth but enjoyed watching the Gators dismantle Ohio State. Just because it was SEC football. So, to answer your response, yeah, it’s been 28 years, our fan base is pretty hungry. I hope that our team is. Twenty-eight is a long fasting.

Bamafan,

We actually do have a dog in this fight, and it’s Florida. Just in case Penn State gets too close, beating Florida/Tebow in Atlanta will look a lot better to the voters and computers than beating Georgia again.

I don’t know if they’ve changed the formulas but a few years ago the computers wouldn’t give a team credit for beating the same team twice.

I could never ever bring myself to actively cheer for the Gators, but I’d prefer that they win on Saturday.

You UGA guys are crazy, after a good beat of LSU, you forgot who you are. Look at the whole season, UGA is terribly inconsistent while FLA beat other teams with high scoring games. What’s my conclusion? UGA is not as good as FLA! Even UGA beat FLA, dawgs cannot beat BAMA in SECCG. BAMA has been in a controlled slide for almost every game, not fancy, but enogh to put the other team in a controlled cage. FLA has a better chance to beat BAMA. That being said, this is a bigger game for FLA than UGA ‘cause UGA cannot pass BAMA anyway.

Exactly what is “classic dawg domination?” I’m trying to remember the last time the Dawgs won a NC? I’m a OU fan, but I have to say that if the dawgs want “respect” you gotta win big, and over time, not just for the last 12 months. In 4-5 years, if you have a consistent, top 5 placing and then brag, beat the drum, show off, whatever. But until you prove you got something more than 1 year of luck and some talent, you sound like posers.

And, FYI - FL looks like they have a better talent pool than GA this year and FL is definitely better coached. You can dump on Meyer all you want in these blogs, but he’s one of the best coaches in the country. GA needs a NC coach. Until you find one, the dawgs will be hit or miss every year.

I’m sorry but that joke is pretty stupid…water simply flows toward lower elevation. It doesn’t matter if it is going north, south, east, or west. Gravity isn’t defined by compass direction folks!

You got lucky one year in the championship game against FSU….come back to the blog when you win another bowl game.

Being old school I’m gonna have to say right now the 1980 game was bigger because of what it led to. But history will tell if this game is bigger. SO #@%^^% Tebow and %&^**% myer too. and you too kim unisex name for a unisex team. You can bet your sweet azz there will be no excuses this year because Mr. Tebow is healthy. Tebow will put on a clinic for the mutts and the overrated Stafford kid. UGAs defense and special teams are a joke. Reminds me of little league play. Dawg nation have fun at the Outback Bowl!

Listen everyone talks trash when it comes to the Fl Ga. But heres what I think about this year.

1) I got tickets with my dad and will be siting on the Ga side, and yes im a Florida Gator Fan!!! 2) Ga is a great time. I have no doubt they have a possibility to win the game. 3)Same thing in war it comes down to who has the best weapons: FL- Harvin,Tebow,Demps,Rainey…James Special Teams Ga- Stafford and Moreano, Green

I think Florida has a small % advantage in this and could be what decides this

4) Moreano-HAS TO HAVE OVER 150yds for Ga to win

5)Tebow holds onto ball…no turnovers in pocket or running , interceptions maybe can give up 1, 2 is pushing it

5) IF Stafford goes out the pocket i fully expect Fl to close in and get some serious hits GA WIN=Stafford in pocket with protection

6) HARVIN-Listen even i cant keep my lip tight on this guy…If u dont stop him early then i honestly think he could beat ga alone

well thats my main points i could say more but whatever im tired of this week going by slow. see you at the GAME i will be in the standsd for my first GA FL game i cant wait…Sorry i have to point out more advantages for Florida because thats my team….But GA fans i will always respect that team…live in GA and have lots of dawg friends. But either way a SEC TEAM WILL BE IN THE N.C and it will be FL Ga or BAMA hopefully FL ;)

UF is a bunch of embarrassing cry babies. Oh my, Tebow got his feelings hurt last year. Poor little Tim. And what about Urban Cryer? No class. Why score 60+ on the house cats? How can Urb complain about sportsmanship after that?? Florida is a classless football team that needs a dose of humility. If UGA doesn’t do it, maybe my Gamecocks can get it done.

Each game that has not yet been played is the most important. Since the LSU game is history the Florida game is now the most important. When the Ga-Fla game is over the next game will be the most important. There have been streaks in the GA-Fla series. At one point the Dawgs owned the Lizards and in recent years the Lizards have made it more even. 10 years from now only “old folks” will remember this year’s Ga-Fla game. Therefore, tune it in and enjoy it.

Gator fans, we’ll see about your “much improved” defense. The only team you’ve played so far this year without a first year starter at qb was Arkansas. These newbies and the immortal Casey Dick obviously aren’t going to prepare you for Stafford. Also, the rushing offenses of each opponent have been average at best and most have been downright anemic(statistically speaking). Enter Mr. Moreno.

Biggest of all. Give me a break. They are all big. Just like a pony ride when you were a kid, they seemed really big. As pointed out by my esteemed beat blogger, yes I am going for brownie points, there have been many “Greatest ever” games. When it all comes down to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, it will always be the game that UF and UGA fans can finnally agree on one thing. “I can’t wait for the game in Jacksonville, we will show them who is the boss”. And it always winds up who is the boss, that winner takes all.

Final thought on this blogging, I hope and pray no one on either side gets hurt or has a carreer ending injury. I don’t care whether you bleed orange or red and black, I hope and pray none of these kids bleed. Back to you Loran.

Gator25, Interesting comment about having the best weapons to win a war. The Germans had Panzers, more manpower and Rommel. The allies had Sherman tanks, superior air power and Patton. Fla has tank Tebow, midget running backs and the Urban Crier. UGA has only little ole Moreno, Stafford and Green in the air and General Richt. To paraphrase Winston Churchill “It will long and it will be hard, we will do it on the land and in the air, and we will never surrender” It should be a great game Sat. Go Dawgs!!!

Reading through some of the comments makes me thank God I have taken enough medication tonight that I hope I do not do an idiot post. Look, this on paper looks to be a great game, fans of both sides, enjoy the game, it should be great. I don’t know who will win, as a UGA alum, my feelings are set on my side. As a fan of the SEC, I don’t know. I love the Tim vs Matt II. Right now the SEC, one day the Pros. I mean really, aint it great that two of the best QB’s in college ball get to watch the other play. This is what dreams are made of.

Tonights Smack free Tuesday is brought to you by your local United Methodist Church. Okay the sermon was Love thy neigbor. I have to live what I profess seven days not one. But I will smack on Friday just for the fun of it. God bless our coaches, our teams and our fans. May we all come out of this, better and listening to what is really meaningful, hint, it aint football.

  1. Besides the fact of physics presented earlier, the other reason the St. John’s flows to the North is b/c all of you Floridians cried and moaned about not getting “your share” of the water from the ‘Hooch. We want our water back! But do remember one thing……you get the water that has gone through Atlanta! Yum!

  2. I’m surprised that none of the Florida fans on here noticed “Wildcats” statement of the “Gator Chop”. WTF is a “Gator Chop”? Is the “Gator Chop” a blend of the Gator Chomp and the FSU Tomahawk Chop?

If U.F. was so p** about the gator stomp, then why didn't they do anything about it during the game?Huh, what?anyone? Think about that for a minute. Real men MAN UP right then! UGA came to YOUR state, smacked you around, danced in the endzone, and won the game! And you want to wait until later to start crying about it? Please. WHAT's that? Your quarterback had a sore shoulder? I remember in 2005 when UGA was missing there quarterback,AND the middle of the defence.(both starting defensive tackles, and the starting MLB) We only lost by 4 pts. Ya'll better stop making excuses, and get ready for ONE HELLUVA GAME! I can't wait.

It’s totally understood what you are saying. The truth is that Florida has a great football team. Florida has a great strength of schedule, unlike Southern California and Pennsylvania State. Florida plays top defense, top offense and is complete with top punting and punt returns and kickoff and kickoff returns.

In addition, because they are lopsidedly a running team, they do not turn the ball over but do get take-aways.

What they have done differently this season, is to get the ball out of the hands of Tim Tebow. I mean he won the Heisman Trophy already, right.

Florida is ranked better than Georgia in every one of these categories.

Florida is ranked better than Georgia in the AP Poll, Harris Poll and USA Today Coaches’ Poll.

There is no BCS Computer Poll, however, that has Florida ranked ahead of UGA.

Las Vegas has picked Florida to Win.

The game is at the stadium where again this year, The Gator Bowl is also played. It’s less than an hour from their campus and while we have 37 degrees outside, they enjoyed a high today of 64. The truth be told JAX also registers 39 degrees outside right now. We have to stop to get to JAX and it takes considerable effort on the part of our players to get to JAX.

JAX itself is anything but neutral. We have 2 of our players from there and they have 22.

We have not had a defensive end all season long, and have done an absolutely horrid job of sacking opposing quarterbacks - which is how we beat Florida last season.

We have not fully recovered in our scheme to overcome the fact that we have not had a tight end all season long, either. Perhaps we have not shown our hand on what remains our strength of the fullbacks - perhaps multiple on the field at the time except in like the goal line set last week.

Where we do match up, is that this is a running team Saturday and by God, we can stop the run.

If Urban Crybaby wants to line up and play an option play at the line again this season, where Tim Tebow has pitch men to pitch it to - we will obviously get after Tim Tebow and take our hits on him personally as we already proved to him on every play last year.

Last year, he was going to keep it anyway. This year, he isn’t.

Florida recruits very well, and for the period after Vince Dooley until just the last 4 years, Florida has owned this game.

It is after all, the ONLY FOOTBALL GAME FLORIDA CARES ABOUT WINNING.

But, for the last 4 years, Florida has not dominated this game.

As to how this game stacks up to the more than 10 I have attended in the past, it cannot be determined prior to the game how this game will be measured compared to previous match-ups, as that is only going to be known once in fact we can look back on the game.

Of course, looking back at last year - for example - only now can we see that the only reason why Florida Lost was because Tim Tebow was injured.

There is no advantage Georgia has in this game Saturday.

Well, actually, we have a lot better Quarterback.

It’s not like that so much any longer. In the old days, yes. Now, they get more of the calls correct. Still no one can do anything - like you say - about a bad call of say interference which never happened.

The game will be Won or Lost on Quarterback Play.

Two teams evenly matched in talent. When teams like this meet, the game is usually won/lost in the trenches. This game comes down to who controls the line of scrimmage. Advantage: Florida.

ramdawg, the problem with people like you is, you are all talk, you can say the SEC is dominate but you can’t prove it. That’s the way most SEC fans are and that is why SEC teams usually get over looked when it comes to bowl games, the conference is full of overrated teams.

1966 was a big year also. With Spurrier at QB the Gators came in undefeated and lost to UGA 27-10, who ultimately won the SEC. It was a heartbreaking loss for UF as they were undefeated and had the chance to win their first SEC crown with a win. The one game explains the hatred Spurrier has for Ga and his dominance ever since.

His dominance is because we had two coaches during his time at Florida, named Goff and Donnan. They were good guys but not head coaching material.Kinda like Doug Dickey and Ray Graves at FL during Dooleys hitch.
