Smackdown

A little rest did wonders.

In dismantling Miami 41-23 before a national TV audience, Tech looked like a totally different team than the one that lost at North Carolina 12 days ago.

Jonathan Dwyer, Roddy Jones and Lucas Cox ran wild. The 0-line, particularly the right side, opened up huge holes. And QB Josh Nesbitt gutted it out on a bad ankle. His third-quarter touchdown run — on 4th-and-1 — pretty much sealed the win at 34-10.

The defense, already without DT Vance Walker and CB Jahi Word-Daniels, lost LB Sedric Griffin and S Dominique Reese early to knee injuries. But the ACC’s stingiest unit played a terrific first half.

Michael Johnson’s interception return for a touchdown, on a short slant route, made it 10-0 Tech early in the second quarter. It was Johnson’s first career INT. Then Rashaad Reid picked off Jacory Harris.

Miami kicked a field goal with six minutes to go before halftime.

But on Tech’s next offensive play, Jonathan Dwyer took it the distance. He broke two tackles on the 58-yard TD. That put the ACC’s leading rusher over 100 yards for the 8th time this year.

Dwyer dragged defenders into the end zone on his next score. It was 24-3 at the half.

This emphatic win not only keeps Tech alive for the ACC title. It had to impress the reps from the Chick-fil-A, the Gator and the Champs Sports bowls.

And don’t you think it gives Tech a lot of momentum heading into Athens?

Very impressive performance, tonight. This gives us a ton of confidence going into Athens. Way to go Jackets, celebrate and get ready for Georgia week. I am ten times more confident going into Athens this years than I ever was the past 3 or 4 years. Lets get healthy, lets get focused and lets take care of business.

Coach Johnson’s offense is sooo predictable!…NOT

I’ll bet even Jack G liked the perfect option tonight (even though JShaw did make one booboo on an ill timed pitch).

Paul Johnson is a baaaaad man, and a great coach!

Now, please get our key players as healthy as possible. We need Word-Daniels, Walker, Griffin, Reese, and Dwyer back quickly.

I don’t know if we will beat the mutts this year, but I know we can, and I know they know we can. This is great!! If the mutts win, it will be their last for a long time. Let’s hope that last year’s win was their last for a long time.

Go NC State! Go Clemson! and Go Duke!!

Mr. DAN: Please make sure Coach Johnson is happy!! He needs to retire as the Yellow Jacket coach after 20 or so years of success.

Hey UGAy FANS: Maybe you should try a whiteout instead of a blackout? I think it works a little better. All you rednecks must be worried after watching GT dominate Miami. As far as Knowshon, he suxs. Dwyer is much better and it will show next week. Get ready for a azz kickin between your crappy redneck hedges. Forget the Gator Bowl, Forget the Chick-fil-a bowl, beat UGA, get to the best post season bowl with a team that is exciting and playing its best football at the end of the season!

Besides the idiots at the Gator Bowl want to bring in FSU who will have 5 losses after FSU gets whacked by either Maryland or most certainly Florida. And the opponent the Gator Bowl wants the ACC to play? a 4 loss Notre Dame who will have 5 losses on it by the time it gets done playing USC.

If anything Tech fans, pray for Chick-fil-a, but at 5-3 in the ACC, at least we will not be sent to the Emerald Bowl or Smurf Turf this year!

GT owns fast D’s and UGA just has a flat out bad defense so it could be a lot more of what we did today on NOV 22

this is what weve wanted all year. Good O-line play and limit turnovers and we knew we’d win. That’s what we did and if we use the same formula next week we’ll see a lot of the same

Great Win! Congratulations to CPJ, his staff, and the team for an outstanding performance. This season is already a big success, but a win over the puppie dogs would be the crown jewel.

The dogs have a great deal of talent. We’ll see if they have the patience and discipline necessary to stop the spread option running on all cylinders. Lets get some guys healthy and see what happens.

I can’t wait until we get these guys runinng behind a healthy offensive line. Go Jackets and THWG

It’s ok to come out of the closet-Maybe after the game next week you can lead us all in the TP in ATHENS(said to be the birth place where all tickle piles started)….That is why Stafford went to UGA right?—-I saw the picture-Not to smart on his part uh?

Realpuppy-Tech’s front line is a lot better than the dogs offensive guys and all dawg nation knows that-The truth of the matter is that all these “young” guys you refer to now have almost a whole season under there belt-oh yeah I forgot-TECH starts 16 of those “young” guys. UGA has not stopped anyone with the defense this year and that is true all I’ve seen all year FIRE Wille. Truth be told we may have struggled but UGA escaped both KY and Auburn and were lucky to get out with a win-I look for Stafford to be on the ground a few times come Saturday-AND just like Tech Fans-NO dog fans thought they would be 8-3 coming into the game on the 29th-oh yeah don’t talk to much about conferences- Everyone seems to love the Sargin Power Rankings- Big XII-ACC- and SEC- The dogs have not won big all year so what makes dog fans say that now is beyond me-Don’t bring up LSU-they almost lost to TROY- yeah I know Tech beat GW 10-7. It will be a great game and IF we play like we did tonight-the Jackets will win-

The UGA defense is a joke. Ours is not. IT will be a high scoring game, but our Option will wear your D down, while ours stays nice and fresh. GT will own TOP, and the pups will be left with memories of the last 7 years and nothing else.

By GT GRAD

November 21, 2008 12:32 AM | Link to this

GT beat Miami MUCH MUCH easier than Florida could manage (remember the Miami vs. Florida game was very close well into the 4th quarter).

GT dominated Mississippi State in a manner that none of the SEC teams could even fathom.

Several bloggers have posted obnoxious comments indicating GT would not even be competitive in the SEC. It amazes me that so many SEC and UGA fans continue to claim GT and the ACC is weak even with so many facts to the contrary; GT is a much smaller school with a huge disadvantage in recruiting; however, the GT vs. UGA games are almost always very close. Even the past 7 games……..GT has lost the last 7, but 6 of these 7 games were very close. I was at 2 games where most of the UGA fans thought they were going to lose late into the 4th quarter (Reggie Ball lost both games for GT; UGA was given those 2 wins by subpar QB play). If UGA is supposedly SOOOO dominant and GT is supposedly SOOOO weak, how could this happen? Think about it. You will see what I mean unless you are too biased and ignorant to consider anything which does not support your inflated opinion of the UGA football team.

Important Fact: GT still holds the all-time record of 8 in a row. I hope we prevent UGA from winning 8 in a row, but I feel fairly confident that UGA will not win 9 in a row based on what I have seen so far this season at GT and UGA. As a GT fan, I sincerely hope we stop the current streak at 7!

Don’t be too surprised if GT starts to beat up on UGA like Florida does each and every year. Remember, you heard it hear first from some guy who uses the handle GT GRAD!

The future of the GT Football Program is VERY bright indeed!

Go GT!

I hope we dominate UGA and handle the victory like a class act with integrity!

Great game for Tech. Johnson’s strategy the first three plays opened up the option the rest of the game it seemed. It let Miami know we have reverses and passes in store. Just wait until our passing game gets clicking. This offensive line played great as well as all facets. It’s interesting to watch Johnson’s option run varied options to keep defenses somewhat off balance. But the view here was Miami did’nt stack the deck because they had to protect the short pass and the reverses. The defense also play great. 2nd most rushing yards ever against Miami.

Georgia doesn’t hate Tech as much as Tech hates Georgia because the nerds are such a non issue to us. When you spend 7 years in a row beating someone, you tend to kind of let them slip out of your mind! I think it’s funny to see the usual happening though… you don’t EVER see Nerd fans anywhere, until they win a game or two, then all ten of them come crawling out of nowhere. Why do I dislike UGA? Because EVERY YEAR everyone MASSIVELY overrates them And they are from the SEC which EVERY YEAR people massive overrate.

If the SEC had a season where a bunch of teams had five and three records it would be instantly touted as evidence of how “Tough and competitive’ the conference was. If the ACC had undefeated and one loss teams in conference record at the top, it would be claimed it was evidence of not having depth. The SEC is like the teacher’s pet. They get a free pass, no matter what.

Of course Bobo the clow will help you guys too while Richt ponders about his next truck commercial. Rich does not understand BCS play so you guys will be in the game and may pull a victory out of this. I will sat on the sidelies watching the eejit and the clown make funny faces while the jacket offense confuses them. Mediocre Stafford will not perform up to the hpye. You know win or lose it does not matter but how you play the game. What does it matter if you play a bowl game in DEC or Jan? The odds are UGA will lose. It is time for change! Man, you nerds from that trade school on North Avenue sure are making AND drinking the Kool-Aid after your “big” win over The U. Let’s compare our teams respective losses: the nerds lost to VT, UVA and NC (only ranked team at #25). The DAWGS, on the other hand, lost to #1 Alabama and #3 Florida, one of whom will be playing for the National Championship. Oh, and let’s not forget that the nerds still had 8,000 tickets left for their “big” game last night and that trade school on North Avenue is the first one in NCAA history to actually TEAR DOWN seats in their stadium after a CO-national championship (which was awarded by a poll that no longer exists). The nerds will get beat like a rented mule by the DAWGS and the streak extends to 8 in a row. As a closing remark, I would like to note that when the ESPN cameras scanned the student section last night the women looked either like talent scouts for a cemetery or like they needed to be hosed down and fed some peanuts after the game!!! One thing you people need to remember is that that Oline is missing two starting tackles. For the most part outstanding job upfront. Where as UGAg makes excuses about their Oline tech just keeps chugging along. There is a huge drop in talent level from first to second string especially on the D line. Nice win, Jackets! Next week’s game just became more interesting than it already was. If UGA does not play disciplined defense (which we haven’t all year), you guys might break the streak.

We’ll see you in Athens!

I was one of the posters who said CPJ was great hire. I was a huge Ga Southern fan when Erk started football again at GSU. It was CPJ who installed this offense there and it immediately became unstoppable. They destroyed highly favored teams in the 1AA playoffs. I also followed CPJ’s turnaround of Hawaii and Navy. With good athletes this offenese can be great, with great athletes this offense will be unstoppable. It was nice to hear informed announcers recognize that this isn’t about three yards and pile of dust run but relies on the big play when defenders discipline breaks down. You think it’s working now, wait when the QB grasps the reads as second nature…… you aint seen nothing yet.

I’ve been giving the O-line a hard time all season. So I must give them a shout out after last night. By far the best game they and the teams played all year. These long run depend on more than O-line though. The receivers blocking down field is huge also. Great game Jackets.

Hey Tech fans:

A few observations from a “non-redneck-used to be wealthy until the DOW dropped below 9000” UGA fan:

  1. You are a competitive football team again. Thank goodness! It gets pretty boring when GT is down for so many years. Time to get the rivalry cranking once again.

  2. Miami is the most poorly coached, undisciplined team I have seen in a long time.

  3. Next week ought to be alot of fun. I can’t wait. I think both teams will be focused and prepared. It should really be fun to watch.

Why do Georgia fans act like they are going to roll through Georgia Tech. They haven’t rolled through GT in like 6 years, all the other games were really hard fought. Folks, great win for the Jackets program at a great time. Very very impressive.

Notre Dame is a poor football team and not deserving of a Gator Bid at this point. Very doubtful the Gator will take them this year. That is if they want to hold on to what little credibility they have left.

VT looks to have the huge upper hand now to the big game in Tampa. I think FSU beats Maryland to get to Tampa. Almost certainly the loser of that game will go to the Chicfila bowl. The Gator looks to be the spot GT will land. My guess is that a Big 12 team (perhaps Ok.State) will be the opponent unless Notre Dame upsets USC.

By MoDawg

GT45 UGA will be ready. As for who has had the “better” season, I’d say 9-2 trumps 8-3. How about who has exceeded expectations? GT wins that one, hands down. Your team has come through a lot of adversity and should be congratulated for your success this year. Be happy with it because even the most die-hard Jackets would not have envisioned this for your team.

Why don’t we do away with all the predictions and smack talk on these blogs and let the teams play the game to see who wins. I just hope both teams bring their A-game and we can finally agree on which was the best team in this year’s battle.

See you in Athens!

I went to the game last night, luckily I got a free ticket. It kind of reminded me of going to a high school game with all of the empty seats. What a terrible showing for what was such an important game for Tech. Yes, the option looked very good last night. But you played a very bad Miami team with no talent. Georgia will drop 40 on GT this year. How bout you girls sell out your games when it counts. UGA has only two losses and they were to the #1 and #3 teams in the country. You are better but you still don’t understand that, in college football, you don’t brag about losing 3 games in your conference and still being able to win it. You are right that the SEC is not as strong this year…we only have two of the top four Nationally ranked teams…I don’t recall any of the ACC teams in the top 21! As a matter of fact, that LSU team that you bash as being pathetic, is ranked higher than the best ACC team…even Ball State is ranked higher. Go figure. You guys should Yellow Out next time. The week after the Tech/Clemson game I was listening to one of the morning radio show announcers on the Clemson flagship station in SC. I won’t give his name because he doesn’t deserve any publicity. He stated that Paul Johnson’s triple option was “high school stuff” and Paul would never win at BCS level with the TO. You can see the TO getting better and better. One thing I was glad to see PJ do last night was start out with some passes to loosen up the defense, it seemed to work well. The Jackets will come out against the Dawgs fighting like the Barbarians going after the Romans. Hopefully, we get a win in Athens to cap off an unexpected great first year for PJ and the young Ramblin Wreck.

While viewing the Tech vs Miami (FL) game one of the announcers let it slip that GT only has a 75 man squad. Is 85 the full complement? CG couldn’t keep Tech academically honest during his watch. If CPJ and GT can get some injuries and ailments mended, UGAY will have a fight on its hands. But if all the new sprains and hurts take hold at GT, the Jackets will be hard pressed to resist for the full 60 minutes.

Now you will be facing 4 stars of which 2 are projected very high in the next draft. Little bit different animal.

Should be high scoring like 35-31. If you don’t get healthier on the defense side of things, UGA will light you up. Of course we have WM to even things out which is why it will be like an arena league game.

What gives you nerds any reason to believe or even hope you can beat a top tier SEC team such as my DAWGS in our house just because you’ve beaten a few 2nd rate ACC teams and squeaked by Gardner-Webb this year? Georgia has a history of giving up double digit points in the 1st half to most of the wishbone wannabe teams it’s faced in recent memory, but the 2nd half always tells the tale when ‘boners are worn down and Georgia runs away with it. NO SIR-EE, BUMBLEBEE!! NOT IN OUR HOUSE !

As a Georgia Southern alum, I can assure you that UGA does NOT defend the triple option well. Four years ago when the Eagles brought that “unique” offense to Athens, GSU put 28 points on the board. Eight years ago, I watched Adrian Peterson, the one now with the Chicago Bears, rushed for 152 yards against a Dawgs D that had a slew of NFL draftees. In short, UGA had been remember to play assignment football when it plays Tech.

Anyone that argues about Georgia struggling in road games against Auburn and Kentucky must not have been among the 30,000 in attendance against Gardner-Webb. For those bringing up the GW game-

That game was played with our 3rd and 4th string QB’s who are drop back passers, squeezed into the schedule at the last minute during Fall Break, played in front of a half empty stadium, and the players admitted they didn’t take the game seriously. I think last night, Clemson, FSU, Miss State, etc. are better examples of what our football team is capable of, not GW.

Also, at least we’re not Michigan, Tennessee, Auburn, etc. What’s their excuse? We’re winning year 1 in running a new system.

We took care of business against a tough Miami team. Plenty of reason to be pumped and excited. But let’s not act like UGA fans here. I like our chances heading into Athens. Last nights win looked great all the way around. UGA’s D has some weak points. Bottom line for next week, no turnovers, and a healthy return for our key players, and I say we will win. I’m not going to say it’ll be a blowout or anything, UGA has some talent on offense. But it is on the road and we have to keep Stafford and Green in check. Go Jackets! THWG!!!

ESPN had it right when it stated they should be left out of the BCS….their record will go to 1-10. It probably a good thing Miami did not schedule GW because GW would have put the beat down on them….similar to Middle Tenn putting it on Maryland. Oh yeah way to pull one out against Kentucky in the last minute thats real “Top tier” of you. What a joke UGA is. If you can’t win it with Stafford and Moreno then your program is a joke. Quit living in 1980, you are a perennial failure who takes a nose dive every year with 5 star recruits. You red-headed techy’s are funny. good win. but a bit embarrasing about the ticket situation. and how funny would it be if there was a uga section at every tech home game?? big game- if the dawgs keep killing themselves with penalties, mistakes, etc. tech will get its first win in some time, but if georgia plays its game and the defense plays disciplined, assignment football, uga will smoke them…same old song and dance. simple as that.

DAWGHATER here’s a clue. 11 turnovers in 4 road games for the Jackets. That needs to change for next week, but so does the discipline for Georgia’s defense.

Both of the road wins were 4th quarter comebacks which means your team has something about themselves. A 4th quarter comeback win for Tech is a solid win, yet a 4th quarter comeback win for UGA gets crapped on and shows how they are overrated? Can anyone explain that?

Georgia97: Get your facts straight. Tech reduced the stadium after the 1985 season. They won the UPI national championship in 1990. See, 1990 is after 1985. IDIOT!

What a dominating performance Tech last night! Any honest Georgia fan wouldn’t bet a penny on them beating Tech now — and the spread will reflect this. Maybe GA will get 2 points for home field?! If Nesbitt recovers more fully, and the defense gets back some of its question marks, Tech will win by 10+.

I’m a big fan of CPJ from the GaSou days: great work fixing the UNC problems… But what was the thinking on the first half onsides kick try? Seemed unnecessarily desperate—not unlike U(sic)GA’s early attempt vs. FL…which was at least, as it turned out — was necessarily desperate! I expect more necessary desperation from UGA on Nov 28…

Stupid nerds. Pathetic. Can’t even fill that puny stadium. All this idiotic talk about beating Georgia sounds just like the talk leading up to this game for the last 7 years.

It’s always funny watching you dorks roll into Athens with huge saucer eyes in amazement at what a real college town is like. Have fun until noon - that’s when the beatdown starts…

Rest In Peace - Not a beeliever - yet. Long live - True beeliever.

Razer - I’m glad that I vented and got over my temper tantrum. I was in the Upper East stands wearing my new white hoodie and screaming my lungs out. Good thing this blog is type-written since I have no voice.

I grew up in Atlanta and have been a Tech fan my whole life. I’ve attended many, many games over my 51 year. There have been less than 5 that measured up to the enjoyment of watching that one last night. My all time favorite was obviously the Citrus Bowl on Jan 1, 1991. Second best was the 1985 GT-UGA game in the fog at Grant Field.

It was a total, total smackdown. I watched my Tivo version this morning. The announcers started the night praising Randy Shannon and all over how great the “U” is becoming. Before the evening was over, Chris Fowler was trying to teach Jesse Palmer the words to “Ramblin Wreck.”

Anyone calling our offense “high school” or “one dimensional” should watch last night’s game tape and then STFU. Miami and their vaunted defense looked as confused as a UGA student trying to take the ACT.

The announcers said it correctly. We could have made the final score anything that we wanted to. CPJ let up on the gas pedal early in the 3rd quarter.

CPJ is a BAD man. The only team in the ACC that can beat us is US (pardon the grammar)….with the possibility of the guys in the black and white striped shirts. Funny that they appeased Randy Shannon’s whining about chop blocks early in the game and then didn’t call it again the rest of the night.

GREAT GAME GUYS. NOW, CARRY IT OVER AND PLAY THAT WAY ON NOVEMBER 29!!!!

Go Jackets….THWG!!!!!

Sure is a lot of trash talking for not having beaten the Dawgs in 7 years ( 16 if you count all those years you used ineligible players in the 90s) You already lost to UGA in basketball and baseball this year. What makes you think football will be any different? 8 in a row coming your way!

Looking forward to GT pounding the dawgs. You have the momentum now to take care of business. We will take care of Clemson next week for you to help pave the way to the ACC championship. My motto: Anyone but Clemson or UGA. Also glad you beat the arrogant Miami whose fans will quickly correct on the Florida vs Ohio version. We still hate J. Then, add another 100,000 redneck fans watching from their double wides and you have 190,000 crying rednecks. The only beatdown you will see will be Dwyer, Nesbitt and Jones running over your crappy D. As for KNOWSHOW, good luck running on us! Ain’t going to happen. As for AJ Loser Green, good luck throwing on us, Ain’t going to happen. It’s going to be the beginning of a new era. GT beats UGAy this year and for many tears to come, just like Florida does. Now, my clueless wonder, what do you have to say about that? Congrats on the win Techies. I was acutally pulling for ya’ll….1) so we’d have another top 25 opponent to beat (next weekend) & 2) so ya’ll mugs would be cocky/overconfident come next weekend.

First of all, Miami has fallen (way) off from their “powerhouse” days. Secondly, the ACC is a 3rd rate conference (compared to the stacked SEC). Lastly, you’ve not faced a team with the offensive firepower & talent of the Dawgs this year. Next Saturday will yield the same results of the prior seasons before…(another) victory for the far superior, powerhouse Dawgs!!!

One big win and away they go, didn’t hear all this after UNC. So, just a question, if UGA is so overrated every year, then what does that make Tech, and why aren’t these numbers reversed?

Good win, but Miami stunk last night. Think it will be a great game in Athens, so keep the smack coming, good jokes are hard to find.

First, let me say that I’m ecstatic over the win last night. It was a total effort and one of those games where we were doing everything right. Our team hasn’t looked that good since we dismantled Miss State earlier this year. The only fumble was long after the game was decided.

Second, I think it’s funny that we’re getting a lot people posting how Miami isn’t really THAT good after all. Reading some of the posts earlier in the week, after they beat VT, most of the posts were about how lightning fast and dominating their defense was and how their speed would negate our offense.

Third, anyone posting that either team is going to dominate on November 29, is doing so out of nothing but bravado and ignorance. Both teams are talented and both teams have weaknesses. It’s likely to come down to who gets the breaks.

The good news is that our program is visibly on the upswing. I hope that the recruits that we had at the game caught some of the vision of what this team can and will be VERY soon.

MoDawg Thanks for coming to the GT Blog and being reasonable.

Some of my fellow GT fans are getting carried away, but that’s to be expected after last night. THE game will be a good one this year.

It’s funny to see all the UGA fans talking bad about Miami. Seems like this Miami team did a lot better against Florida than UGA did.

The question I have is, “Was last night an aberation where the Tech players happened to execute CPJs offense?” or “Did it finally click?” If it clicked and GT can start executing CPJs offense at a high level, everyone else we play from now on is going to have their hands full.

This whole comment section reaffirmed everything I hate about Tech fans with their “holier than thou” persona and the incessant “at least I went to the school I cheer for” cheer. I bet a lot of you here like the Atlanta Braves. Did you also go to the University of the Atlanta Braves? I’m happy that Tech fans are excited about next week. They should be. You have a good coach who is doing big things in his first year. But please stop with the Georgia shouldn’t even bother to show up sentiment. Let the players do the talking. You have no room for smack talk when you’ve only won one game in this series in the current millenium. If you win on Saturday, then you have bragging rights for a year. But for now you have no foot to stand on.

GT has a significant number of injuries (Our best RB as well as the OL, DB, QB, & LB corps are all hampered by various injuries); however, I still like our chances against UGA.

UGA fans should look at the bright side………..your team will finally get a new Defensive Coordinator if they lose at their “sold out” home field to a “pitiful, weak, injury riddled” GT team which utilizes a “high school offense” and plays in a “Joke” conference known as the ACC!!

By BUZZZZZZZ

John,

The reason we dont have as many fans in the stadium as UGAY does at their games is because the fans at the GT games actually graduated from GT. They are not a bunch of out of work rednecks who never even graced the front door of the University of GA much less even went to college. They spend all of their money from working at the local Athens factory on red and black camoflauge and season tickets giving the apperance of a stadium full of actuall UGAY alumni. If I lived in that anal gland of a city where there is nothing else to do I would probably go to the game to. By the way three GT alumni are in the space shuttle right now and couldn’t make the game I don’t think UGAY has that problem.

With all due respect…when injuries were mentioned about UGA yesterday, all we heard from your side was that UGA was crying and giving excuses. You’ll hear none of that from me or most any other self-respecting Dawg fan. Also, our stadium is ALWAYS sold out, so there’s no need to use the quotations as if it was a “supposed” fact…it is indeed a fact.

I, too believe that this game will decide the fate of our D-Coordinator. We have regressed since he took over, and while still being a respectable defense, with the high-level recruits we have on campus, there’s no reason we should regress like we have. I only hope that we have at least one more good game in us on the 29th, because you Techsters are chomping at the bit to gain back the bragging rights that have been ours’ for quite a while, now.

Good luck getting healthy and hopefully both teams will be close to 100% so we can stop all of the “but, if” arguments.

Dwyer- 1184 yds on 170 carries. 7.0 avg 10 tds.

Not to mention that AJ Green has more rec yds than Tech’s top 3 receivers combined. It was a great win for you guys last night, but don’t think that this is Miami’s offense that you are going up against on the 29th. UGA actually gets first downs.

Here are a few:

59-36-4, catch up or shut up

0 vs. 0, that would be National Championships of each respective school or any 1A team because the NCAA doesn’t award them. If you’re talking MNC’s then it’s UGA 5, Tech 4. If you’re talking consensus it’s UGA 2, Tech 1. If you’re talking, undefeated, untied, unanimous it’s UGA 1, Tech 0. Much like your former midget quarterback, it’s amusing that “engineering” school attendees can’t count.

The perception of Georgia as being “overated” is misinformed at best. As a matter of fact, based on the starting poll position and ending poll position, there are few teams more consistently underated than UGA over the last 30 years. In fact, UGA has finished in the top 5, six times as often as they have started in the top 5 in the preseason poll.

Tech was founded, funded, chartered, and spawned by a UGA graduate. For Tech folks to mock Georgia’s academic credentials is beyond rediculous and bordering on pathetic, considering Tech’s entire academic lineage can be traced to The University of Georgia.

Tech may win Saturday. They should be very proud of their season and Paul Johnson is an outstanding coach. I wish UGA played as diciplined as Tech. But it’s clear by the commentary of this blog that Tech is infatuated with UGA………….and to be fair UGA is obsessed with UF for the same reasons. You hate who you lose to the most. The difference is that UGA still leads the series with Florida by double digits, and has actually beaten Florida in this century.

You sound like the same UGAY fan that got his azz kicked and then thrown on the urine covered floor in the restroom at Bobby Dodd stadium last year. I remember it well. He got beat up because he was picking on a nine year old boy who had a GT hat on. This is typical of the class of UGAY fans and why I can’t stand them.

RAMBLE ON

I am civil, most of the time. I was having a little fun with the name-calling thing because it’s funny to me.

Nice win last night! However, UGA is not Miami and our offense is pretty darned good. It’s our defense vs. that offense I saw last night that has me a little worried. I still say we win, but it should be a good game. It might be a Big-12 type of scoring-fest, though.

The difference between the Dawgs and Tech are Tech plays in a pathetic conference and the Dawgs play in the SEC. The Dawgs have played teams with far greater talent than Tech could ever dream of having and they’ve done so numerous times this year because, once again, the Dawgs are in the SEC. Whether they won or lost the calibur of teams they’ve played versus the caliber of teams Tech has played is an apples and oranges comparison. Get ready for another beatdown at the hands of your hated rival, Nerds.

Nate,

We have to trash them before the game because most likely UGAY will win the game, and they should. They should be very embarrased if they loose. A giant State University should beat a small Technical school every year. They have the better recruits, more fans, and a ton of money. but somehow they do from time to time loose to us and that is sad.

By AlabamaRamblinwreck

November 21, 2008 1:23 PM | Link to this

Nate: I agree

We must realize that UGA has a passing attack that will not be easy to stop. If our defense can limit their big passing plays, we have a great chance to pull the upset.

We cannot turn the ball over, and we must win the field position battle.

Can we win in Athens? YES Will we win? Maybe, and hopefully, but not definitely. Let’s be humble, yet proud GT fans. We can get cocky after several more years with CPJ, but for right now, let the mutts show their arrogance.

Go Jackets!! and yes, CPJ for coach of the year!

All of the UGA fans talk about 7 in a row and that’s all they have to say. Tech has more national titles than UGA. Tech has the most consecutive wins(8 in a row) in this great rivalry. The dawgs got stomped by ‘Bama and the Gators and barely won against a Kentucky team who has obviously struggled this year. Just suck it up Georgia fans casue this year Tech will dominate!! What’s the good word? TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!

BobInBuford …

Georgia Tech is also one goal line fumble that wasn’t, a missed field goal and a NCAA forfeit penalty for using ineligible athletes away from being 0 for their last 17 against Georgia. Shoulda, woulda, coulda’s don’t count. Ohio State was about half a dozen of those away from being 6-6 in 2002, but they walked away with the national title.

Take your medicine like a man next week.

BUZZZZZ…rest assured it’d take half a dozen+ Techies to take this ol’ boy out. That being said, any grown man picking on a kid deserves an @$$ whoopin’ (irregardless who he pulls for). Sounds like that punk deserved a swirlie (post beatdown).

In my experience, that kind of heathenistic behavior is much more common at NFL games (with booze sales) than at college games. I’d have to say LSU fans (at Tiger stadium) are the worst I’ve seen as far as those type of shenangians.

Next week’s game is very simple - we don’t turn over the ball, we win; we do turn it over, we lose. That’s how the whole year has been - we can’t be stopped - we can only stop ourselves. I think we know how Georgia will play - it’s just a question of how we do.

I’ve been hoping this all fall - I really hope Coach has a few plays tucked away just for this game. Saw a few tricks last night; maybe there’s some more.

If everyone’s very good for the next week and eats their Wheaties, maybe we can be sitting at 9-3, and have a direct rooting interest in the Va-VPI game (which I hope gets the 3:30 slot, and not the noon one).

And as far as those who keep telling us how much better the UGA players are, you are right. You have much greater talent (with a couple of exceptions). It becomes a question of whether great players who play pretty much for themselves will beat good players who play as a team. Probably most of the time. But sometimes the team approach works (look at such teams as Davidson in basketball). Now we will have to wait and see. All the trash talking in the world will change nothing at all.

Let’s try typical Dawg logic from Tech’s perspective:

AU Beats MSU 3-2, Tech beats MSU 38-7 GA beats AU 17-13,

Who should beat GA based upon the comparison of irrelevant games, hmm. Oh, I forgot, GA only stunk it up against AU because they were still sucking their own a**es after the beat down they received in Florida. My bad!

  1. Don’t drive too slow or too stupid and people won’t flip you off.

  2. Don’t get home, get on the internet and vent about being flipped off for not knowing how to drive in traffic.

  3. When writing with the big mouth, don’t try to tell others not to write with the big mouth.

These are pretty simple. I bet even you can be successful in accomplishing these suggestions if you apply yourself.

I bet the ACC is hoping and praying that Tech does not make it to Tampa for the ACC title game. And I bet the CFA bowl folks are not going to take Tech either. One Tech fan above said that they did not sell out last night b/c of a NHL game in Atlanta. CFA folks always have a sell out and it’s obvious Tech is unable to do that.

.

.

Sell out ?

Tech had over 10,000 seats they could not sell to the biggest game in the Paul Johnson Era last night.

Not only did Tech not sell out, but over 100 recruits mostly from the area was there to see that not only could Tech not sell out a home game - the biggest home game in the Paul Johnson Era - but also they saw first hand how over half the stadium would not even where a white shirt on the outside of their clothes.

A total abject failure.

You can also absolutely know that there were no wide receivers, no tight ends, no quarterbacks and nothing but running back skill players who watched the game as a recruit - unless they were planning on attending Miami of Florida who is also an abject flop of a football team for the last entire several years with a 12 win 13 loss combined record for the last several seasons combined.

Georgia Tech is Number 116 in the nation at passing the football.

Because every receiver, tight end and quarterback gave up on Georgia Tech when Paul Johnson took over.

3 yards and a cloud of dust, doesn’t make for good fan attendance - does it ?

Despite the fact that Georgia Tech’s Strength of Schedule all season this year is not in the Top 25 SoS according to the Official NCAA SoS, Tech has managed to lose to 3 teams none of whom are ranked, and all 3 of whom are in your own Stinking ACC Coastal Division.

And, you come running in here to say that Georgia Tech can win the ACC CHUMP ionship still.

BS.

Not that there is even a ranked team in the ACC, because there is not.

As soon as any ACC team gets ranked Number 25, you ALL LOSE.

Mid-American Conference BALL STATE should have the ACC automatic BCS bid, ranked Number 15.

Utah, BYU, TCU all 3 in the Mountain West Conference should have the ACC automatic BCS bid, ranked Number 7, 14 and 16.

WAC Conference Boise State ranked Number 9 should also have the ACC automatic BCS bid.

The ACC is a total joke of a conference and should have to give up its automatic BCS Bowl bid - no one would go to that game either.

Why do over 3 million more fans attend SEC games than ACC games ?

Duh.

If it was already blogged, it was blogged by but I. For I am the 1 who blogged it, after I first studied it, and know it.

Tech has no bragging rights.

None.

Tech has not overcome the rankings of UGA.

Tech is NOT UGA.

Tech never will be.

Tech never has been.

There are six (6) NC listed in the Official NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Records Book for both UGA and Georgia Tech and the polls who have ranked UGA 6 times NC in football are all the very exact same polls which have ranked Tech NC 6 times.

Except that Tech has NEVER ever Won even 1 Final AP Poll National Championship.

The vast majority of the Tech grads are (1) Male (2) Asian (3) Those who for their entire time on campus, never witnessed a game in which Tech beat UGA in football.

As for your conversation of Receivers, that you say Tech will get as many as she needs…

Tech NEEDS no receivers, nor quarterbacks who can throw to them, nor Tight Ends to catch passes - for Georgia Tech does NOT and will NOT throw the football. This is known by the fact that Paul Johnson does not believe in the forward pass.

But, he does believe in turnovers. Lots of them. And, he believes in playing cupcake strength of schedules.

You talk of UGA being blown out by # 1 Bama and # 3 Florida.

Tech has NOT even PLAYED a ranked team, nor has Paul Johnson EVER PLAYED AGAINST a Number 11 team, ever.

We discuss football here. Georgia Tech’s football team has a WORSE ACADEMIC PROGRESS RATE than UGA’s football team.

And, you lost 6 Scholarships for the 2007-2008 season in football for ACADEMIC CHEATING.

Let me know when Tech, with its inferior talent and in its inferior conference, is ranked ahead of UGA ?

Just Observing - I left you out. You are right, GT is just down right overrun with fans who didn’t go to school while UGA benefits from only highly educated fans in the Doggie Nation. Right.

I don’t know who BuLLdawg is arguing with, but whoever it is should ask BuLL if he would like to compare the degree programs that UGA footballers typically endeavor upon versus those that a typical GT footballer endeavors upon.

Here’s a quick summary.

GA fans get all excited when occasionally one of their players studies in the Terry College of Business because it seems more often than not there players are studying worthless degree programs like Housing. Most of us can agree that the UGA business school has a good rep. and its share of difficult classes. Meanwhile, the easiest degrees at Tech are in the Management School where most Tech footballers end up. They study the same type of business courses as does a rare UGA footballer who dares to study in a real degree program.

So please stop with the APR discussion because it is truly comparing the academic challenge level of vastly unequivalent programs.

Georgia Tech football players do not endeavor to study that which is taught at the school.

In fact, NONE OF YOUR ATHLETES AT GEORGIA TECH are fit for the purpose for which they are SUPPOSEDLY intended at Georgia Tech.

Which is why the Academic Progress Rate, APR, for Georgia Tech’s football players is worse than UGA’s football team and why the both the men’s and women’s basketball “student-athletes” at Georgia Tech ALSO BOTH are worse APR than UGA’s mens’s and women’s basketball APR.

BuLLdawg, the local 8-9 year old football players would have a higher APR than Tech too. Do you really want to compare the difficulty difference between Tech and UGA with a guy who has degrees from both? Only one of the two schools from which I graduated actually told me that only 2/3 of the students entering the school would graduate from the institute. And the reason wasn’t because of the annual and highly cherished “party school” rankings that the other institute seems so proud of. Don’t misunderstand me, I believe UGA provided me with a good education for what I studied but there is no comparing the academic rigors between the two colleges.

I’m glad to rock on with arguing about this if you want, but comparing the APR between schools without a lick of commonality is just plain stupid.

Maybe Georgia Tech should attempt to recruit football players, men’s basketball players and women’s basketball players who can actually do the work at Georgia Tech.

Oh, but then Georgia Tech could not compete.

I’ve got news for you.

You don’t compete now.

Not in the classrooms doing the work you recruited them to study, and not on the playing fields either.

By Delusional

November 22, 2008 7:45 AM | Link to this

Hmm.

9-2 with wins that caused more questions than answers at USC, UK and AU.

8-3 when the expectation level was 2-10.

Who didn’t compete again?

You want to beat your chest because UGA football has an APR of 965 while Tech’s is 951. News flash – you are comparing a liberal arts university to an engineering college and it’s is widely know that that engineering college makes the first two years so difficult that 33% of the students, athlete or not, cannot stay enrolled. When I attended both colleges on the quarter system, a full academic load at UGA (15-hours) was 3, 5-hour course while at Tech, it was 4-6 classes of much more difficult academic subjects. These were calculus, physics, engineering science and mechanics, in addition to english and histories. My wife at UGA at the same time (girlfriend at the time) had Chemistry, English and History.

Now that’s a comparison. And since you are hung up on academics, did you even attend UGA or are you just a UGA homer? Give me that news jackleg.

hey buddy, i see where a GT grad is now CEO of Wal-mart. Looks like a lot more UGAy fans got a GT boss. Fortunately for you, he’ll make some money for you!

Do I think the whole GT boss thing is relevant for the game next week. Absolutely not, no more so than the size of our stadium, or color of our uniforms.

I’m looking forward to another long ramblin post from you after No 29th with lots of meaningless or inaccurate facts to minimize the impact of losing at home, to the team with the high school stadium, running a high school offense, in the “season of the national championship”. To UGay’s credit I do think it will be closer than the only other two gut check games they played this year.

See ya next Saturday!

My degrees are bigger than yours…

Fans support winning programs. To expect a teams’ fanbase to only be alumni of the school is, indeed Delusional. If that’s the logic, then only former NFL players who played for the Falcons can cheer for the Falcons. Only former MLB players who played for the Braves can be fans of the Braves, etc.

I do get tired of the argument by a few Tech fans that UGA should not have fans other than those who attended the university. Fans are fans because their team is a winner, for the most part. Speaking as a UGA fan, I’m proud to support The Dawgs!

Way to Jackets!! You made us REAL proud! Thanks Coach J. for giving us a real sense of hope and confidence for every game now, it feels great! And thanks to the players for a focused, dominating effort against the arrogant ‘Canes. Now it’s time for a SUPREME effort vs. UGA and breaking another streak. You guys are GREAT!

MoDawg,

your argument is flawed, but partially correct. The Georgia Tech football program represents The Georgia Institute of Technology, in much the same way that the Atlanta Falcons represent the city of Atlanta. You are correct that that certainly doesn’t mean that people who live outside of Atlanta can’t be fans of the Falcons. But I think you can make the argument that people who actually live in Atlanta and people who actually graduated or attended their universities have more at stake with their team, because those teams represent something that they are directly a part of. Sports is largely built upon an idea of Us v. Them, and you don’t really get more us v. them than when a team representing a university that you graduated from is playing. If you’ve never pulled for a university you are an alum of, its hard to describe to people the difference. I grew up a Tech fan, but ended up going to South Carolina (just liked the campus, curriculum, etc better, didn’t feel like stressing myself out when I knew I wanted to go to grad school). Despite being a rabid GT fan growing up, the feeling of rooting for my university now is so drastically different than the “superficial” rooting I used to do and, to a lesser extent, still do for GT. In a way, you said it best yourself, people root for winning teams, but alums root for their teams, regardless. How did South Carolina sell out every game during an 0-21 losing streak? A dedicated fanbase that consists mostly of alums. Why does GT continuously struggle attendance wise? A small alumni base in and around Atlanta. They’ll occasionally see a spike in attendance when the team is doing well, as causal fans and transplants catch a few games, but a down period spells disaster.

Someone mentioned the shared national championship of 1990, which is complete BS as Colorado won one of their games solely due to scoring on a 5th down against Missouri on the last play of the game. I know Reggie couldn’t count to 4, but the Colorado game was ridiculous.

Some conclusions from this blog. 1. u(sic)ga will always be Georgia’s team because its the bigger and easier school to attend. 2. Because of 1, the dawgs will consistently have better recruiting and (failing horrible coaching jobs) better records than Tech 3. Who gives a crap……..To Hell with georgia! CPJ will go down in Tech lore if he can win next week.

As a Georgia man and fan, I must give Tech credit for the screw job they got in 1990. Colorado got a gift of gifts. Must have been Penn Wager’s long lost relative on the field to give the Buffs that extra down. Tech had a great year in 1990 and deserved to be unanimous #1. Oh well, s** happens! GO DAWGS! GATA!!!

You want to beat your chest because UGA football has an APR of 965 while Tech’s is 951.

I believe that is the point.

As for The University of Georgia, as you also said, we enjoy an excellent reputation especially in Business which is my degree where I was honored at the Foy Fine Arts Building as The Top 5 percent of my graduating class at the same time you and your wife attended.

You have an 8-3 record, as I said, against a not even Top 25 Strength of Schedule, according to the Official NCAA SoS. You have 3 Losses to 3 teams, not a 1 of which is ranked.

UGA has a 9-2 record with 2 Losses to the Number 1 and the Number 3 teams in the nation.

You would have 2 more Losses playing UGA’s schedule.

Your Passing Offense is Number 116 of 119 teams.

Had you attended Tech and not UGA, you would not be married today because there are no women at Tech by comparison.

And, oh by the way, the NCAA Academic Progress Rate is worse for your football players than UGA.

Note if you will that the Georgia Institute of Technology Lost 6 Football Scholarships for the 2007-2008 season for Academic Fraud.

.

So, go ahead and tell us Georgia Tech fans (both of you ) :

1. Of the ranked teams in the Polls as released today, who has Georgia Tech played. ?

Go ahead.

Tell us all.

2. Of your 3 Losses, which teams are ranked teams ?

Go ahead.

Tell us all.

The answers are :

  1. Georgia Tech has not played a single game against any team who is ranked.

  2. Georgia Tech has 3 Losses, all 3 of whom are Unranked Teams.

.

That is nice that Georgia Tech is ranked Number 22, but will they be ranked after they play us ?

Has Georgia Tech played either Number 1 Alabama or Number 2 Florida ?

Georgia Tech’s best opponent all season long is Georgia at Number 11.
