No Barack Obama in sight, but Bill Clinton to rally for Jim Martin this week
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Everyone’s been debating over whether the first African-American elected U.S. president should come to Georgia to campaign for Democrat Jim Martin in the U.S. Senate runoff.
That’s still up in the air. But what’s certain is that Martin has snagged the first faux black president. We’re shy on details yet, but the Democratic campaign just announced that former President Bill Clinton will be in Atlanta on Wednesday on Martin’s behalf.
Clinton — whose wife is under consideration for secretary of state, remember — was here only a couple weekend ago for Martin. But that was a private fund-raising event. This is a public rally.
“President Clinton and I share a common goal of helping President-elect [Barack] Obama fix our economy and get our country working for middle class Georgians again,” Martin said.
Former Republican presidential nominee John McCain and former U.S. senator Zell Miller participated in a rally for Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss last week.
Also this weekend, the Martin campaign put up the TV ad below — a kind of anti-“firewall” approach, accusing Chambliss of blocking Obama’s planned recovery efforts.
The ad includes some footage of Chambliss speaking back in July. “We may not be in a recession. I don’t know what that term means,” Chambliss says. It’s a remark that had one meaning this summer, and a wholly different one today.

It will be great to see awesome Bill come to Georgia for Jim Martin. The Democrats need to get out as many as possible during the early voting period.
Now is the time to get that Veteran hating Chambliss out of office. I will never forget the treatment of a Georgia Hero Max Cleland. Saxby called him unpatriotic. What did Saxby do? get a deferrment for a gimpy knee. Saxby is a coward and a supporter of the Bush economic plan.
See what Chambliss and Bush has done to this Country. Our grandchildren will pay for the debt they put us in.
Elect Jim Martim……..he will lead the way into a new generation of prosperity.

If the Georgia Dem. Party would actually put up a viable candidate this would have already been resolved…but if Obama can’t win Georgia and even with his turnout couldn’t get Martin elected…he Martin has less than zero chance of making the run-off - Bill Clinton must have really nothing else to do to waste a trip here

Mr. Clinton:
Why won’t you list the contributors to your presidential library? What are you trying to hide? “I never had sex with that woman.” Of course not, she had it with you, right? Just how stupid and forgetful do you think the people of Georgia really are, Bill? Do you think they will simply believe whatever you tell them? Save the embarrassment and stay “home” in New York.

Why do this state always vote ODD. In a year where everybody is voting for change these confederate states still want more of the same. Georgia remember how your REPUBLICAN Governor did you a few months ago when the gas shortage was going on through out the state. What makes you think Saxby is going to be any better? Georgia may not have voted for Obama like it or not President-Elect Obama will be our President for the next four years maybe eight in order to fix this mess Bush left us in President Obama will need all the tools he can to work with. Georgia you may not have voted for Barack so please make up for it and vote for Jim Martin for U.S. Senate.

Chambliss is shameless and corrupt. The earlier post is correct; Chambliss has received large campaign donations from the sugar industry and specifically Imperial Sugar. During the senate hearing, he falsely accused the whistleblower of being the one who was responsible for the conditions that led to the tragic explosion. But this is Chambliss’ pattern. Consider the tragedy of Katrina. Afterward, he voted against all legislation that would have helped schools and individuals. He was opposed to investigations of the government’s response to the hurricane. Instead, he voted for tax breaks for businesses. Also, consider his response to the financial markets plunge. There are a large and growing number of foreclosures taking place in Georgia. There are hundreds of thousands of mortgages that are 60 days past due. Instead of trying to figure a responsible way to reduce the number of foreclosures, he hands $700 billion to the former CEO of Goldman Sachs. For those of you who do not know, Goldman Sachs was one of the biggest players in sub prime lending and derivative trading. Chambliss is a corporate lackey.

Max Cleland was injured in a non-combat related accident, but he was also a war hero. Both are true. He was awarded both the silver and bronze star for combat in Vietnam. He also was a constant fighter for veterans rights while in the state and US Senate, which in many peoples’ view, made him a post-war hero of the military as well. Oh, and I also forgot that he was in charge of the VA under Carter. If that’s not enough military-related service to qualify for ‘war hero’ or ‘military hero’ status I don’t know what is.

Yes to rewarding companies that send American jobs to China, India, and other countries. In 2004, Chambliss voted against closing up $39 billion in tax breaks for companies that outsource their jobs. [Vote 90, 5/11/04] In 2005, Chambliss voted against against repealing tax incentives for domestic companies that move their manufacturing plants out of the U.S. [Vote 63, 3/17/05] He even gave those same companies a tax cut. In 2003, Chambliss voted to cut taxes on U.S. companies’ overseas income from 35% to 5.25%. [Vote 165, 5/15/03]
Won’t hold U.S. companies accountable if they deal with terrorists. Chambliss even voted against an amendment that makes U.S. businesses liable for dealing with foreign businesses that have links to terrorism. [Vote 203, 7/26/05]

Chambliss Refusing to Speak in Imperial Sugar Case? Why should a Senator have immunity in this case?
3News-News Three was the first to tell you Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss had been subpoenaed by Savannah Attorney Mark Tate in the case against Imperial Sugar.
Tate, who represents families of the deceased, subpoenaed Chambliss because he believes Chambliss has pertinent information for the case.
In a News Three follow-up, we’ve gotten word that Chambliss’ lawyer is moving to quash the subpoena.
Tate says attorneys for Chambliss claim he has immunity because he’s a U.S. Senator.
“Our clients have said to reporters that they have felt like he was trying to influence them and dissuade them from filing lawsuits. That’s the kind of activity a U.S. Senator does not enjoy privilege to conduct,” explains Tate.

Saxby is a symbol of everything wrong with southern politics. Slow talkin, not thinkin, only concerned with social conservative issues that don’t matter to a hill of beans.
Martin is a bumbling fool and the Buckly guy just got off the mother ship.
The way I see this is that whoever wins is going to be a yes man and straight vote down their party lines. So the issue is do you want the Bush Republicans telling your Senator how to vote or do you want the Obama Dems telling your Senator how to vote? I’ll take the Obama folks any day (and before anybody gets on here and rants about Pelosi - she’s in the House of Representatives, not the Senate)

I’ve done some research on Saxby to find out how he voted on the issues. Here’s what I found out:
Saxby voted AGAINST improving health care for returning soldiers and veterans.
Saxby voted AGAINST providing health insurance for our country’s uninsured children.
Saxby voted AGAINST disaster relief for victims of Katrina & Rita.
Saxby voted AGAINST farmers that needed assistance due to the drought.
Saxby voted AGAINST victims of domestic violence.
Saxby voted AGAINST improving protection for our troops by denying them vehicles to withstand roadside bombs.
Saxby voted AGAINST limits on extended tours of duty. Some of our troops have served three or more tours of duty. Saxby wants them to keep on indefinitely. By the way, Saxby never served in the military - he claimed he couldn’t because of a bad knee. But yet he wants to make others serve indefinitely.
Saxby voted AGAINST shifting $11 billion from corporate tax loopholes to fund education.
Saxby voted AGAINST keeping more police officers on our streets. This is a program that reduced violent crime for 7 years in a row. Saxby voted against continuing it.
Saxby voted AGAINST repealing tax subsidies for companies that send our jobs overseas.
Saxby voted FOR a bill that makes it easier for companies to send our jobs to other countries.
These are just some of the votes where Saxby voted against our best interests. There are many more. He has sided with corporate lobbyists every step of the way. Saxby needs to be voted OUT of the Senate. He does not have our best interests at heart.
