At times, you wonder how ‘Comedy Central’ could survive without Georgia

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun of Athens has made the big time.

On “The Daily Show” last night, Jon Stewart and John Oliver spent four minutes riffing on the Republican congressman’s fears that President-elect Barack Obama could establish a dictatorship along the lines of Stalin or Hitler.

A bit of the dialogue:

Oliver: Broun had the keen eye to see what so many had missed. That Barack Obama is incredibly similar to Hitler.

Stewart: Adolf.

Oliver: That’s right, Jon. Not Keith Hitler. Not Tommy Hitler. Not little Sarah Hitler. The main Hitler. Adolf Hitler. That is the Hitler most similar to Barack Obama.

Stewart: You’d have to be crazy not to see that.

Oliver: You’d have to be nuts.

Stewart: A mad man.

Once again Georgia has proved itself to be the laughing stock of the entire country. How embarrassing! (But funny)

If Rep Broun has any shred of decency left he should beg forgiveness from the country and resign. He is a shameful example of the stupidity and twisted thinking of the right wing republican party. He should not collect another cent of his salary and should just go away. His malicious fatuous halfwitted more than moronic comments prove that he is a wanna be demagoge in his own right. As was expressed during the McCarthy era and is applicable now at long last Broun have you no shame? jb

Just for the record: Paul Brown is the one Republican in GA that us Republicans are totally embarrassed by! He is a complete nut job! The word Lunatic would also apply very well! Feel free to take as many pot shots at him as you would like…..think of it as a free pass…..you won’t see any Republicans reply in his defense! Have fun!!

Okay, I’ll see your Paul Broun and raise you one Cynthia McKinney.

Any takers?

What R U talking about? Bush got elected twice on similar hysterical nonsense as what Broun expressed about Obama as a dictator. Rove got Bush the Gubernatorial Office in Texas by calling Ann Richards a Lesbian. He put flyers on windshields of cars parked in church parking lots as the worshippers prayed inside. I wonder how amused God is with Rove and Bush. God, I only wish Ann Richards were a lesbian. Ditto Palin. But of course, not if it offends thee oh most holy one cause I dread the loss of heaven and the pangs of hell, or is it pains of hell? Dammit! I always get my vespers mixed up.

But, good people, Somewhere along the way America grew up.

Or maybe the economy and taxes and import levies is what destroyed the GOP machine , or better said….

… it was duty that killed the beast.

One difference: Cynthia McKinney is not a sitting Georgia congressman.

Thats no difference. Find a real diff. Something, oh, Idontknow, you know, like say one has a p and the other has a p. still no diff. Okay, we’ll have to broaden the criteria. How about, say, one shaves a moustache and the other….ew.

moron.

Everybody likes to beat up on Cynthia McKinney, but what she actually said post-911 was that there was advance intelligence stating that an attack on the US was imminent, and that interests close to the Bush family would profit immensely from the ensuing events. Both true, whether you like it or not.

Cynthia McKinney, we hardly knew ye.

The bailout makes me suspicious. Notice how it came when they realized McCain had no chance, and when they also realized how imminent a briefcase nuke attack from Al Queda was. It is the rich’s grab the money and run act of desperation. If Al Queda hits us again, with a WMD, then all chaos will break loose and the rich will entrench behind their gated communites with BlackWater Mercenaries as our regular army to protect them from the 99 Percent of americans who aren’t rich.

We’ve been had. The USA was a great idea, but Bush, Cheney, and Rove killed it.

And now we’ve the devil to pay. Buy canned food and lots of water.

You’ll need it.

Cynthia McKinney is the Jocelyn Elders of the 21st century. McKinney is a complete, utter and total joke. Besides a few nuts in GA, she is thought of as an ignorant fool the country over. The woman should be shunned. She beats up cops for crying out loud!

Just when the nation had started to forget Rep. Lynn “I Can Name Three of the Ten Commandments” Westmoreland.

Paul Broun is an perfect example of why the Republican Party got such a whupping a few days ago. No coherent policy, no skills, no knowledge, just a handful of recycled cliches and talking points. (Socialist! Soft on defense and crime! Tax and spend libberals! They’re coming to take your guns!)

The sooner the Republicans start taking government seriously, instead of merely searching for a better marketing strategy, the sooner they will win elections outside of Georgia and Texas.

But back to the point…what to do about Georgia’s embarrassment for the next two years? The national laughing-stock it will be to be Georgian because of this particular congressman.Enjoy the ride, there will be plenty of laughs.

The libs are scared to death of Palin. You would think that after defeating her and McCain they would take a break. But no, the see her as a threat. Especially the NAGS (National Association of Gals). I love to hear the fear in the voices of the left. Keep it up libs. Keep it up. Peace.

Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate have, since FDR at least (likely farther back than that) enabled the executive branch to grow in power and control, far beyond the limits imposed by the constitution. It was their responsibility to reign the executive in, but they both, in the interest of their parties, not the interest of the republic or the constitution, failed to uphold their duty.

What we have now, with the Patriot Act, the Military Tribunals act, FEMA, the illegal wiretapping, the destruction of Habeus Corpus, the illegal detention of foreigners, the illegal use of torture, the illegal and immoral unprovoked attacks on sovereign nations, and the complete abolition of any financial controls on the secretary of the treasury and the federal reserve, an executive branch that has FAR more power than Hitler ever dreamed of.

Combine that with a man who sees the constitution as an inconvenience to his reign and we have the makings of a dictatorship. Forced redistribution of wealth, confiscation of savings, destruction of the money supply through rampant inflation and government spending, the destruction of businesses through massive regulation and fascistic controls are all part of his agenda.

One may criticise his choice of comparison personalities, but the reality is that the two party system has failed this country miserably and has set the stage for literally any president to use the force of this country in a manner consistent with the actions of Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and every other socialist or national socialist tyrrant in history.

The reality is that is has never been about the person, it is the institution that has always been the problem.

after you get through with laughing yourself to tears and stop to think of it, the premise is not far off. i remember listening to the radio and seeing the pictures in the news papers and most said that could never happen here. well watching the political spectacles for obama they only lacked the candle light and the red and black banners with the swastika. the ferver was there for no forseable reason. we need to be watchful

I did not hear the full comment by Mr. Broun, but I thought that my posting was pretty much in his defense.

The kinds of things coming out of Obama’s mouth now and from earlier recordings are clearly the ideas of a man who sees himself in a dictatorial like role rather than as the elected president of a constitutional republic (of course Hitler was the elected leader of a constitutional republic until the Reichstag bent over and gave him supreme authority). He sees the constitution as a limit on power and clearly does not like that or support an adherence to that belief. He has already endorced the use of the executive order (something that has become a dictatorial power under Bush) and sees his presidency as a means to reshape america and redistribute wealth. These are ideas of force and violence. They are not the concepts of the constitution or the rule of law.

Obama as Hitler? Only time will tell.

Awww don’t worry. Rep. Broun didn’t watch or listen to Obama’s speech before he ran off a the mouth either.

It’s a Republican tradition to never spend more than 15 seconds gathering information before spewing for 30 minutes about what it means.

Broun is exactly what House Republicans are all about. He should be the new minority leader.
