Chambliss leads, but Martin close behind, Democratic poll says
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll this week is showing Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss leading in the U.S. Senate runoff, with Democrat Jim Martin close behind.
The poll commissioned by the Democratic-oriented web site puts Chambliss at 49 percent, and Martin at 46 percent. Margin of error is 4 percent.
A separate poll by Survey USA has no horse race figures, but the poll had something else: 15 percent said a visit to Georgia by former GOP presidential candidate John McCain would make it more likely that they would vote on Dec. 2.
But 30 percent said a visit by President-elect Barack Obama would encourage them to head to the polls.
Statistician Nate Silver at fivethirtyeight.com says to take all these stats with a pail of salt. Many, if not most, of the people who say they are likely voters will find themselves doing something else on the first Tuesday in December, he said:
The tricky thing for pollsters will be in figuring out just which of these people are lying about their intent to participate and which of them aren’t. Pollsters like to root their models in recent precedent, but things like runoffs and special elections happen so rarely that there’s just not very much to key oneself off of.
The point is … if the polls going into December 2nd say that Saxby Chambliss is going to win the runoff by 7 points, you shouldn’t be a but surprised if Jim Martin actually wins instead. And you also shouldn’t be surprised if Chambliss wins by 20. This will be a return to the high margins of uncertainty that we saw in the primaries.

Most GA voters know that Saxby is not perfect, but he is far less liberal than that panty-waste, yellow, lib, four eyed loser, Martin. I may not agree with Saxby all the time, but I will be on Saxby’s side more than Martin’s. I will proudly vote for Saxby in this runoff. I will not participate in voting to increase the Pelosi/Reid majority. VOTE SMART. VOTE SAXBY!!!

Georgians will come out to vote for Chambliss. It is important to many conservatives and moderates that the 60th seat in the Senate not go to the Left. A monopoly in the Senate is truly frightening to many — and a great motivator to make sure Georgia stands up and makes the difference. Georgia is just the right state to do so. Saxby’s Gang of 10 Traitors has helped elect OBAMA. His vote for the $700,000,000,000.00 Wall Street Bailout with an added $153,000,000,000.00 of pork was done after he got over $2,000,000.00 from LOBBYIST. I have seen a few runoff elections in GA and generally the Republicans show up. Like him or not Chambliss is needed to keep the Senate from having a super majority which is not heathy for the US political system. Obama will stay on the sidelines as he can’t risk being associated with a loss before he even takes office, this is a good political / tactical move on his part. My prediction is Chambliss will win handily.

I’m so embarrassed every time Georgia goes red in these elections. Barack Obama did a great job in making the margin much smaller this election. The last election showed just how small minded this state really is. In 2004 it was shameful that so many people voted in favor to ban gay marriage. What the heck are you so afraid of, you darn rednecks? I’m so sick of the conservatives and glad that the citizens of the USA decided to get rid of them, when Barack Obama became President elect. I’m still waiting for you all to move to Canada, like you said you would if Barack won. Be smart and vote for Jim Martin.

How quickly we forget that the Republicans were in control of both houses of congress until 2006, then all branches of federal government from 2000-06. They sent this economy out of control by sending millions to Iraq from 2002 to the current. Now that is wasteful spending and irresponsible leadership. Now who is the spending liberal? That would be Chambliss. He will probably win but will have nothing but the power of being an obstructionist in the next congress. Is that what we need? No, but that is the recent history what the small minds here in GA will do. Given all that I am happy that we have president elect Obama and a democratic legislative body that will get things done for the good of all America, even those that will be bitter for the next four and hopefully eight years!

You do know the magic number of 60 is all just a symbolic number right? Several GOP Senators will vote on Democratic issues every time. So whether it is 41 or 39, it makes no difference. With the likes of Collins, Snowe, etc. it really does not amount to anything whether Saxby gets re-elected. Frankly, it is people like Saxby that the GOP is in trouble. Get him out and rebuild. He is symbolic of why the middle of the road voters and even many conservatives have bolted from the GOP. You stand a better chance of getting a real conservative in there if he gets booted from office. Saxby’s the panderer who thinks if he picks an issue like “fair tax” he can buy the votes back in office. He’s using the FT supporters just to get back in. Take out the trash and clean house. Time to clean the cancer that has rendered the GOP a minority party.

After months of a campaign, Moron Palin has given the press 4 questions and 4 minutes of stupidity as her only press interview before Gov. Rick Perry ordered her off stage at the RPG (why is a good question—probably so she wouldn’t make the governors look as stupid as she is).
And now a door is slamming shut for her. She planned to pull a Happy Chandler Ky. 1939. She planned to step down and let the puppet Lt. Gov. appoint her, but that’s not going to happen now as Begich is clearly pulling ahead of “on his way to a BOP hospital to sweep floors after a failed appeal if he is granted appeal bond Ted Stevens.”
According to the ADN:
“More than half the absentee and questioned ballots still to be counted in Alaska’s U.S. Senate race come from areas of the state that backed Democrat Mark Begich on Election Day.
That’s not a good sign for Republican Sen. Ted Stevens as he seeks to overcome Begich’s 814-vote lead when counting resumes today of just over 41,000 remaining ballots. A Daily News analysis, based on data provided by the state Division of Elections, shows that 56 percent of those ballots come from districts that favored Begich on Nov. 4.
The state will count about 40 percent of remaining ballots today and the rest early next week. Democrats like the trend but are wary of expressing too much confidence in a state that for decades has proven a graveyard for their hopes.
“I’ll celebrate when I hear the words … ‘and the winner is,’ ” Begich said.
The Stevens campaign has fallen silent, offering no comment on the ballot count. Republican Party of Alaska Chairman Randy Ruedrich said he’s still a believer in a Stevens victory, and he argues it’s not all about which districts the votes come from.”
Dangling prepositions are allowed in Alaskan newspapers and Wooten’s column goshdarnit—you betcha.

“The second claim was derived from a list compiled by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). The watchdog organization named three senators among its “20 most corrupt members of Congress,” and gave Coleman and three other House members a “dishonorable mention,” in Coleman’s case citing the controversy over his lease.
Coleman officials noted that CREW never actually named him “the fourth most corrupt senator,” and CREW director Melanie Sloan herself called the Franken claim an exaggeration.
But in her ruling, Neilson said state law doesn’t stop campaigns from making inferences based on fact. Because the Franken ads captured the “gist” of Coleman’s place on the CREW list, there was no probable cause to believe the DFLer broke the law, she concluded.
“Hearing that Senator Coleman is the ‘fourth most corrupt senator’ according to CREW produces essentially the same effect on the mind … as hearing that he is one of only four senators named in the CREW report on congressional corruption,” Neilson wrote.
Franken spokesman Andy Barr called the complaint “ridiculous.”
Coleman campaign manager Cullen Sheehan said that while the campaign respected Neilson’s decision, it believes that “Al Franken and his campaign knowingly made false statements about Senator Coleman. We will continue to review all of our options as we move forward.”
Begich will win shutting down Moron Palin’s quest for the Senate. It’s not going to happen in her goofy hick lifetime.
Franken will win.
In this election Obama and Dems showed that their has been a paradigm shift and dems now dominate the exurbs.
In the hick poorly educated state of Georgia (suburban areas in this country now have been dominated by Democratic voting areas except in the poorly educated rural areas and the poorly educated rural state of JawJaw perennially last in education, first in Syplhillis rates, and first in fetal wastage rates and near last in prenatal care.

I’m not sure if I even understand why Georgia always seem to go for the Republicans ; I mean what have they done for Georgia ? At any rate , put Martin in , give the Democrats 60 senate seats , and let’s see what they do . The Republicans have certainly has their opportunities with the Presidency and with control of Congress in the 25 years and look where we are at .

Don’t you think that the Republicans have had their fair share of time in the Presidency and with control of Congress in the 25 years or so ? Or is the economic crisis that America faces now , some great left wing conspiracy ? Go on and vote for the Republicans , and let the robber barons keep on riding .

I think one of the biggest clusterfcks of the decade have been the total failure of the billions hemorrhaged down the drain in the serial financial baleouts that are leaving blood in their wake like serial killings on *Criminal Minds.
Hillruh will not be SOS. She threatens to undermine Biden and he has slammed the door on her. Additionally she would disrupt the work of Sec Def, CIA, and NSA and she has as few qualifications as Sarah Palin does to be SOS. Palin won’t be named there either btw.
Hillruh and Billruh have also balked at revealing 3 things they refused to review to vet her for VP where she was never in serious consideration. Hillruh who also flunked the D.C. Bar out of law school at Yale (one of the few from Yale to flunk it in history) and was chicken to go back and take it refuses to release:
1) Her 2007 income tax returns 2) The foundation contributions 3) The corrupt Clinton library contributions.
Hillruh is not in serious consideration for any cabinet post and certainly not for S. Ct. as useful as it would be for tossing her out of the Senate.

Saxby Chambliss is your typical draft-dodger who knows nothing of the sacrifice that our fighting men and women make. He votes against our veterans at every possible opportunity. Jim Martin served his country in Vietnam and would have voted for this year’s GI Bill which Chambliss opposed.
Let’s also take a look at the Chambliss economic snake oil. Good ole Saxby is selling the “Fair Tax” which is really a national sales tax. Yeah, let’s put a 23 cent on the dollar tax on houses and cars and see if we can really destroy the economy. Even a number of Republicans recognize that this is a dangerous proposal. Check out this link to see what a Reagan Republican has to say about the Chambliss national sales tax. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB118800635034508655.html
We cannot afford six more years of Saxby Chambliss. Republicans, Democrats and Independents are supporting Jim Martin for Senate because he will fight for the middle class.

@ Sir Winston. I hate to pee on your party, but Daily Kos/ R2000 was one of the most accurate pollsters in the general election - 4th place in terms of accuracy, I believe.
Yes, they are liberal, but the difference in polling is how you stack the demographics - not who pays for them…
But then again - I realize this is disheartening. Republicans have never liked statistics, facts, or logic…

Boogie—
They’re in the same dark hole where Georgia high school students can’t pass any mainstream exams administered to high school studnets in the rest of the country/their parents b*** at the system, and they get promoted whether they are as uneducated as Palin or not. I mean the bell shaped curve of them.
Raise relatively stupid children and you’ll end up with clusterf*cjks like the Fulton election, as well as the fact that Obama and Dems now control the exurbs and suburbs in every state except Deliverance JawJaw—rural and uneducated throughout the entire state, including and particularly Metro Atlanta.
Welcome to JawJaw. One of the highest fetal wastage rates and poorest prenatal care epicenters in the country. Enjoy.

Well put RD. Begich’s lead is growing shutting the door on the moron forever.
Alaska Update: Begich Leads By 1,061, Then 1,022
Later update: 1,022. An additional 3,333 votes have been counted and Stevens pulled back 39 votes.
About 510 questioned ballots from Southeast, the Peninsula and Southwest Alaska
About 5,180 absentee and questioned ballots from Mat-Su
Questioned, absentee ballots from Richardson Highway and the Interior
About 3,600 absentee and questioned ballots from Western and Northwest Alaska, and North Slope
Monday the extra Richardson Highway ballots will be counted, and Tuesday another 24,000 or so ballots will be counted from Anchorage, Southeast, Kenai Peninsula and Southwest Alaska.
The Snowbilly posse is having the door shut on them for the US Senate. Palin there would be like taking a Chick Fil A kid and having them scrub for any kind of aneurysm repair. Chick Fil—a kids are emininetly more qualified than Sayruh Mornobilly.

It’s remarkable to me to hear Republicans describe Mr. Martin as a Liberal who will ruin the country. Last I checked it was George Bush, Sonny, Johnny, & Saxby, who were in complete control and steered this country halfway off a cliff.
I left Macon State College in Jan 06 and it took me almost 8 months to find a half decent paying job in Atlanta. When things slowed down at work it took weeks to find a part time job (night hotel auditor in Gwinnett) only to be caught up in a layoff 3 months later. I took the layoff and lousy dayjob head on. I wore out a computer mouse and pair of shoes trying to find a better job when I finally gave up & left the state. Thank GOD I found 2 better paying jobs and been promoted in both.
If I went through hell trying to survive in Georgia I can’t imagine what everyone else is going through with the job losses and foreclosures and all.
Jim Martin volunteered for Vietnam and proudly served the country, and the state as a State Rep. I think he’s right when he says it’s better for us to invest here at home instead of cutting taxes for companies that ship jobs overseas or spending $10,000,000,000 a month in Iraq. Only a mornon (or hard Right Republican) would vote for 6 more years like the last 8.
GET SMART GEORGIA. SEND SAXBY PACKING. VOTE FOR MARTIN.

And don’t expect the Democrats you did not help elect to come to your aid any time soon. Remember that military base they’re looking to award? If you were Obama where would you put it Virginia, NC, FL or GA? And a vote for Chambliss will just seal you fate. Chambliss has be relagated to a back-bench, do nothing by stander. Only 61% of the public voted in the general election.
I am amazed that so few people bother to vote.
Since so many absentee ballots are tossed out, people have to stand in line to know that their vote counts.
Its an ordeal to save the Constitution. Restore habeas corpus, your right to see evidence and cross examine witnesses. DUMP Chambliss. VOTE MARTIN, End the filibusters before they start. Put Americans back to work. Build the bridges, and repair our roads.
Stand in line and put a stop to the GOP as roadblock. VOTE Martin. Jim Martin is credited with 60 pieces of important legislation. Read the profile of this Christian public servant. //www.21stcenturydems.org/candidates/profiles/jim-martin

Where is the leadership to turn out Martin supporters?
The Constitution seems to care more about Michelle Obama’s wardrobe than coming to terms with the possibility that her husband’s influence could get a Democrat elected to the US Senate.
C’mon, great voice of the progressive South, are you going to let Chambliss make a fool of Georgia in the country’s eyes? Everyone knows he’s a corrupt, draft-dodging coward who attacked a war hero. He’s a national joke, a sick joke.
