‘SNL’ takes a Democratic turn, sending up Biden, Murtha

For once, “Saturday Night Live” focused on Democrats in its opening — specifically, the Barack Obama campaign’s two gaffemasters, vice presidential nominee Joe Biden and U.S. Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.).

This from Murtha (Darrell Hammond): “I want to clear the air about something I said last week, when I suggested that the good people here in western Pennsylvania here are racists. That’s not what I meant to say. It’s more that they’re ignorant. They don’t know any better, especially your older ones. They’re just bone ignorant. It’s like someone said early in the campaign — I don’t know who — they cling to guns and religion because they feel threatened. And that’s so true.”

A lamer skit followed — “The Barack Obama Variety Half-Hour,” featuring Jeremiah Wright accompanied by Bill Ayers, singing “White Devils Be Devils.” But rich target material isn’t enough. Fred Armisen’s Obama far too safe to be compared to Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin.

‘bout time. SNL is fairer than PMSNBC. I would like to thank Lorne and the crew for their attempt to be equal opportunity lampooners. Biden is a comedic gold mine. His mouth is a weapon of mass destruction. Murtha should retire.

SNL and AJC-Pretty good.

You can expect to have Democrats in government analyze your records on government computers. You can expect to have your access to Obama and Biden terminated. You can expect about 10,000 hate-filled emails from spittle-flecked keyboards.

Pretty good.

This is how these guys really are in “real” life. So it is not funny because this is what people are voting for, dumb, dumb dumb. Stupid policies, lying to the people saying the will give tax cuts to 95% of the population. And the stupid people believe it like Murtha says “their not educated” they don’t know numbers. When all these things come true look in the mirror.

Considering that SNL tends to lean left, what I get out of this is that Democrats are able to laugh at themselves. But it also occurs to me that Republicans only laugh at others.

if SNL and NBC are trying to portray themselves as not in the tank for Obama by doing these 2 skits….TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. When McCain wins I wanna see SNL bash Obama AFTER the election which I know wont ever happen

Murtha is actually pretty smart - diabolical really - using reverse psychology to win votes for 0bama. What better way to retire than to alienate your constituants while simultaneously committing political suicide in order to be a hero for your party. The way it works is simple: call your voters racist so that they will try to prove you wrong at the polls. They’ll be stripped of all their guns soon anyway, so you’ll be completely safe in retirement. Losing your district and a little SNL ribbing? Small, small sacrifices.
