Basketball: South Atlanta’s Favors still in decision mode
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
There’s a good chance that South Atlanta’s Derrick Favors, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 basketball prospect by Scout, will not sign next Wednesday.
The 6-foot-9 Favors is deciding between Georgia Tech, Georgia and North Carolina State.
“Right now, I don’t see Derrick signing on [the first day of the signing period],” South Atlanta coach Michael Reddick said. “But he could commit to a school sometime next week and sign before the end of the early period [Nov. 19], or he could wait.”
“My main goal was to get Derrick down to five schools. Once we did that, it’s his show from here out. You never know with Derrick what he’s going to do. He likes to surprise people.”
Reddick said he has been getting between 30-40 phone calls a day from college coaches and media outlets inquiring about Favors and his college decision.

Go PRO now and don’t even try to pass college classes for at most 2 years. Give me a BREAK if he is that good he would go get the money now. THIS KID IS A PIMP and we all know it. Remember G. Lombard @ the Lovett school that signed with UGA and then played Baseball for the money and we have never heard from him again. How about Q. Carter that signed with Tech then took baseball money and came back to UGA because he could not pass a CLASS at Ga. TECH went PRO and could not stop SMOK’N the GRASS. ALL COLLEGE TEAMS NEED TO LEAVE THIS KID ALONE. He is a PIMP and colleges are the HOES. If he last 2 years I will kiss you bare butt on TV.

Come to Raleigh, where you and John Wall can play together in what would be the NATIONS # 1 CLASS. Imagine what Beasley and Rose could have done together last year.

DF does not know what he wants to do, today. He feels very comfortable in Athens, on the campus, the dorms, loves the ‘real life’ college atmosphere that is The Univ of Ga and which is not availabe at GT.
He is considering Georgia as a Student and Basketball player, whereas GT is as a Basketball player. Yes, he is being nudged towards GT by the AAU folks and his HS coach. Everyone wants a piece of the action when he heads to the league.
I’ve said it before, will say it again, DF will choose UGA IF, if he is left alone to make the decision. He will choose the college experience available on the campus in Athens where he can live on campus, date, meet new friends, and enjoy being a college student over what will be a business decision if he signs with GT. There is no comparison between the two when it comes to college experince and college life. GT is the short cut to the NBA. If he signs with Georgia he may enjoy being a student and stay 2 yrs, which the nudgers cannot allow to happen.

Hahaha Captain that is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard. First of all GT has real live college atmosphere. Would he rather go play at Georgia where 5000 fans watch them lose every year or AMC where games are always sold out?
If he makes the decision he will be at GT not UGA. He doesn’t even like UGA he just has them on his list because of Coach Felton but he does not like UGA because they suck so bad and I talked to him while he was visiting GT and he told me this. GT academics>UGA academics so nice try bringing up that he would go to UGA to be a student. Just making up an excuse for when he comes to GT. Nice try Captain retard! haha

Cap’n, it’s just hysterical how you use “student” and uga in the same sentence…absolutely too funny…keep ‘em coming I just love a good laugh now and then!!
Lets see…hmmm go to uga and be a happy little “student”, live in the DORMS wow weeee, meet people!!…bet he’s never actually done that!, date?? OMG…did not know they only date at uga?? wow wee…a DATE!!! yipee..mommy, I get to date!!
OR…go to GT…play 1yr, sign a contact for $20M…get all pssy you can shake a stick at….
right…sounds like a real tough choice to me cappo…

Umm, Pi$$???
He can’t go directly to the NBA - they changed the rules so that any player must complete at least one year in college before moving on to the pros.
Captain: Enjoy being a “student” at UGA? That hasn’t happened since Herrick and his great class were thrown off campus. Willy is right - why would he want to go to a school where the WOMEN’S team outdraws the men’s team?? I’ve been to games at both schools - the (dead) atmosphere at UGA does not even come close to what goes on at AMC!!!

BTW…as a “student” I assume he will indeed learn “how many points a 3 point shot is worth”?
Just curious…did any “students” get arrested over there in thugville last yr?
Lets see…$10M….or you can keep a 20 inch knife in your dorm! How cool!

I think our Country is sick of these one-year primma donnas.
We want a “team”—-not arrogant a—holes.
Coach Rad: bring in good team players, not one-and-done Marburys/Youngs/ah h—-.

“Captain” he can date at UGA? Yes, he can date a few Black girls that are also atheletes but he student body is FAKE BLONDE SOUTHERN BELLEs that couldn’t take home for X-Mas. At Tech he can get an education and see women from all over the world. Tech has Americans of all nationalities like not the countries of Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina. I forgot that those were Southern States and not Countries because everytime I attended a game on their campuses all I saw was WHITE FANS yelling for Black Players.

I don’t follow basketball recruiting too well, so I don’t know a lot about this kid. I do know that if he is a good guy and happened to read the stuff on this blog, he would be very turned off by most of the posts and probably decide to go somewhere not even on his list. The best “student” decision should be based on what he wants to do if bball doesn’t work out. You can slam on schools all you want, but each of these three schools have study areas in which they are stronger than the other two. As far as atmosphere, some kids like the “college town” and some like the “big city.” So basically, it comes down to what he wants to major in, what size town he wants to live in, and which coaching staff he feels more comfortable with. Very simple really; I’m not sure why all of these bloggers seem to think that hurling baseless insults at each other will actually do anything other than release some pent up anger issues they have from some other problem.

Jackets All Day at least NC State has won it all, twice in fact. It’s easy to see why State is appealing to Favors. NBA like facilities and arena. Great tradition. Tobacco Road. Nice city. A basketball crazy fanbase. And some ATL area kids on the team that he knows. Favors also might have the chance to play with the #1 PG in the nation in John Wall. Favors reportedly fell in love with the RBC Center and said that it felt like home when he visited State on his official visit.
I think this one comes down to State and GT. Either way we’ll at least get to see him play in the ACC where he’ll continue the conference’s great tradition.

i hate to be left out of the loop with all these gt fans spouting off about a top 5 recruiting class….are you already including favors b/c it seems your class of 4 commits is 3 spots lower than our class of 3. when does #9 equal top 5? that being said, it will be between gt and ncsu. if he wants the real college basketball experience go to a school with tradition of winning championships and with the opportunity to return to that glory. hopefully he suits up in red and white next year…starting line-up of john wall, lorenzo brown, richard howell, brandon costner, and derrick favors has a nice ring to it

CMB rivals has GT’s recruiting class ranked #6 and State’s #11. We have Udofia, Rice, Holsey and Rice which is better than your class of Brown, Howell, and Wood. When’s the last time you went to the NC? Was Favors even alive? Last time we went was 04 and have actually made the NCAA tourney 3 of the last 5 years with Hewitt and Lowe has a 9-23 ACC recor. He can come play in his home state and rep ATL, great tradition, players like Chris Bosh, Stephon Marbury, Jarret Jack, Matt Harpering, Thaddeus Young, Javaris Crittenton in the NBA and help GT win a championship with all the talent we will have in 09.

J.J. Hickson, one year at NC State, off to play with Lebron. Maybe he should go to GATech and be the next Luke Schensur(sp). Easy decision.
